Thats why I don't write. tongue I lose interest in the tedium and the creative element seems to diminish for me...but I never was a writer anyways.

I have several but sadly a lot of dreams are just too unrealistic. Hell I am not really that great a director either and I concede that fact (doesn't diminish the desire sadly tongue ). So I stick to what I know and love...and the only thing I am half way decent at...editing.

I'm sure it's because I'm young and naive but I look at dreams not as fantasies but as goals. they are going to happen. IDK, we'll see whether I say the same in five years or so.

The goal itself can be realistic, as long as you have an understanding that it's a difficult path and you'll probably be poor as dirt for at least a few years after graduation. I really believe though that if you have both talent and tenacity you can make it in this industry. We'll see how I feel on that in a few years, though, heh. At the very least, with modern technology, indie filmmaking is going to become increasingly easy for lower budgets. I spent a few hundred bucks on my feature senior year, and yeah the project has failed, but that was entirely because of scheduling mishaps. The script of mine you just read Bacon, I'm pretty sure if I wanted to do it I could film that for a few thousand dollars. There are many paths to success in this field.

I think I'm going to have to make this a novel instead of a screenplay because one of the three segments is so loooooooong and there's some stuff I really don't want to cut out but don't see how I can fit it into an abridged version. sad

and then I'll wait 50 years and make a movie. all my now-former fans will hate me for cutting their beloved 1000 page novel into a three hour film hahaahaha.

Make it a trilogy.

In writing, you must murder all your darlings.

Ernest Hemingway said that. If he'd been a screenwriter, he would have been doubly true.

Never sacrifice a good screenplay for a good scene or a good scene for a good line. Don't do it. If it's that good and it just isn't going to work for whatever reason in the overall picture, cut it out, put it in a file, and use it for something else later. If you try to rework stuff to fit around those bits you *must* have, you'll mess up your writing. It's much easier to do that in novels. Not in screenplays. Pacing and such are huge issues on film.

But there's nothing wrong with just writing a scene right? I was thinking before writing a screenplay, I'd just attempt to write scenesor just write some dialogue between two characters and try to film them, and hopefully showcase some kind of range of styles. You know, to practice.

Because I have a couple feature film ideas in my head, but mostly I have these "crumbs:" just random scenes with no backstory or wider plot. A scene of dialogue between two roommates for instance (based off an actual one I had). A scene of a group of soldiers in Iraq who got separated during a firefight. A guy pestered by this door-to-door salesman.

I don't want to call them short films, because they're just scenes, there's little development and no acts. More like sketches in a tv show.

Andalite, I will PM it to you if you wish. but first, I will warn you, it is somewhat long. like a page long. I don't want to pretend that it's amazing and whatnot, but I am fairly paranoid about posting it publicly.

solojones, you are quite correct. I only worry that with all these cuts, the story will seem watered down and dense. like a lukewarm frappuccino.

Dang, a page. You're right, too long. I don't have time for this ****. Even though you just read an entire feature film I wrote.

Prank! I do not care about reading no one page document, Bacon, you lunatic, send it over. What is it? A script? Outline? Narrative?

Edit: Keep in mind, not all stories are suited for film. Some things just work better as novels, or maybe television series.

Well, I'll read it.

You could probably just post it though. Who cares!

Whichever you prefer, though.
