Ar har har I'm Vic Mackey, I'm gonna light a few Bunsen burners, turn up the heat, rattle a few cages, set a few fires and see what floats to the top, boils over and what bounces off of what.
If there's one thing about the Shield I don't like, it's the police lingo.

Arrrrrr. Dissing The Shield?!?!???!!
Speaking of The Shield, only like 2 months until Season 7! ACK!!!!! This should be the greatest season of the show, I predict.
It has become increasingly clear to me that this video editing job is not going to work out. I am driving 40-ish miles back and forth several times a week, and whatever pay I get is ultimately only going to cover the cost of the gas I bought driving to work. So the amount of money I have will essentially remain static. There's no point to this. I think after I finish the video I'm on now I'm going to have to talk with the boss and get out of this thing. I don't know what I will do next though.
In the writing realm, I think I am going to submit my apocalypse script to the American Zoetrope screenwriting contest, once I finish the editing this weekend on the second draft. After that I'll get to some serious work on my escape from the insane asylum script.
I think me and my writing partner have a good idea for our Office spec. After that we're going to try a new pilot, but I am most excited for the project we intend to do after the pilot, which is a collaborative feature. We don't know what yet, but it's going to be in the "dramedy" realm. Should be fun.

Oh no the show is great and all but the cop slang gets repetitive after a while. Especially if you go through entire seasons in one day like I do.
Anyways, I got a film related problem. Towards the end of last semester I took on this gig to edit some interviews shot by another student who wasn't in the film program. Just something I thought could keep me busy over the summer. He'd send me the raw footage, I'd send him a final youtube-ready edit. Anyways, I'm editing about one interview a week, then tonight I get a call from him and he's all going off about how he's been saving his money and wants to buy a bunch of professional equipment and he's talking about how I should stay aboard and continuing editing projects for him and what not. First off, I'm pretty sure I mentioned I wouldn't be around next semester. I'll be moving probably to be nearer to my new school. Secondly, he's assuming that just because I know a little more about editing than him, I'm automatically some sort of final cut genius when in reality I'm still a novice. But he's so optimistic and convinced he can single handedly found his own production company (I don't know, maybe he can) I don't want to shoot him down. Heck I hardly even know the guy. I've only met him face to face three times.

Jobo posted: I just finished the first season of the Wire about an hour ago. It was really good, although people keep promising it's the best show they've ever seen. I'm wondering if my nostalgia is going to get in the way of my believing so. But as of right now, it's a pretty good show, but it's far from being best ever.
I'll finish the series, though, unless it really starts to suck at some point. I'm guessing my opinion of it will raise as I go.

Only Season 5 has ever gotten any real criticism in a quality sense. The others have been uniformly praised, so far as I've seen.
What's the nostalgia factor for?

I should. Anything I should know in advance? I just fear it can't live up to The Wire, particularly as they live in similar genres (if not the same one). With The Shield being limited in terms of what it can show, it also seems at a creative disadvantage (a big reason why network dramas almost invariably look terrible to me).

The Shield differs from The Wire in that it really only focuses on the cops. It doesn't spread out and give main storylines to criminals and politicians and such. I have a feeling you'd probably like The Wire better, but to me The Shield is still one of the best shows to be on television. The only difference between it and a show on HBO is that they can't say the f-word, basically. It does a very good job of making you sympathize with cops who are unbelievably corrupt. They are the bad guys, but you find yourself rooting for them. Excellent writing.

I'd have to say that a show on HBO can go about as far as any film can go, and that's including unrated stuff (which Tell Me You Love Me would be if it had been a film). Anything related to sex/sexuality seems like it would have to be more limited on any network or offshoot show (since The Shield is owned by Fox). I guess I'm a sort of extreme believer in total creative freedom. A writer should be able to show whatever best tells their story. On anything but HBO, I can't see how that's possible.
I'll definitely have to check The Shield out regardless. Pretty easy to get either used on DVD or via netflix.

I just found out about a production company that is located about five minutes from where I am living now. I emailed them inquiring about freelance opportunities. This would be the best thing ever. Talk about saving on gas prices. Heck, I could probably walk it.
The wedding video place is definitely not going to work out. I just can't afford the commute. I might have to talk to the boss today if he's in.

Dunno if anyone's seen this or would be interested, but there's a video series on youtube that follows a writer trying to pitch his script for an animated feature. Pretty sweet, and he offers some cool advice.

My brother is about to be Dolly Grip on an independent feature that is using it. I have another friend who works at a camera rental place in LA and he got to play around with the Red literally just when it came out back in the fall. He was telling me about it and I was [face_drool]

Good idea. Like a step outline? Or a scene by scene treatment-type outline? I did both on my first original feature. The treatment outline was a great move because it made it easier to move stuff around and then to write everything really fast. I still never got a rundown of your story though, sir. If you don't mind sharing you could PM it to me, I'd be more than happy to give you some feedback.

I can't believe it's almost August. I register for classes next week and I still don't have a job in the city lined up. And I've been applying all over the place since mid may. I guess I'd better step up the ebay selling. It's just incredibly time consuming.
I've been following the Red's development closely. I can't wait for the Scarlet. It's cheaper than many other prosumer cameras out there. Also the Red cameras look like Hummers.
