Well, I just sent off an email letter quitting my video editing job. The cost of the commute is no longer financially sensible, so it had to be done.

Do you have another one lined up?

Try talking to them & seeing if you can telecommute. VPN accounts, portable hard drives, remote desktop, are options instead of quitting.

A question for anyone experienced with Adobe Premiere.

When my friend was importing some video we shot, he somehow screwed up. When put into Premiere the video plays too fast (high voices) and it also repeats stuff. The rest of the footage we've shot does fine except for this thirty minutes or so (it was the first day of filming). Until we can figure out how to fix this, we are having to edit this footage using Windows Movie Maker. plain

I am not overly familiar with Premiere so I can't help you with the problem specifically but there are a couple of things you can do generally to troubleshoot these issues:
- Ensure that the footage is fine that the issue isn't with the tape.
- Check the import settings and see what they are set with.
- Try to re-import the same footage and see if it was a one time issue.
- If it persists try a different tape. If it still persists try a different deck. I assume you are likely using a camera to import the footage so you may want to make sure that its not an issue with the camera itself.
- Try searching forums for the program on the internet and see if anyone else has the same issue.

I am curious how you are importing the footage though. This is an usual problem.

You see the rest of the footage from different days of shooting is fine. It is just the footage from this one day. The footage is also fine if we edit it in Windows Movie Maker, but it messes up in Premiere. We only have one tape, so we have already recorded over the footage we shot. It only exists on the computer now. I assumed it was some setting he used to import it.

Ouch...you should never re-use tapes until the project is long over (even then a lot of people hold onto the original tapes for years) simply because so many things can go wrong and you may need to go back to the original footage.

I am wondering if you can encode the footage with a different codec that Premiere would understand and export it out of Windows Movie Maker. Just make sure that you aren't using one that really compresses the footage too much (if at all).

That is such a strange problem. I kinda wanna see that.

Yay, signed up for classes in the city. All my classes are on Tuesday and Wednesday. Heyo! grin

Only problem is I have this one required cinema class that's a foundation course and it's the one thing keeping me from taking any upper division filmmaking classes. So I gotta wait and see if I can get exempt from it (I should be more than qualified) or if they'll accept my petition for concurrent enrollment with the other cinema classes I need.

Anyways, I got it all figured out so either way all my classes will be on two days a week. I rock.

Well, it seems most of the profs teaching these "foundation" cinema courses I have to take are old boring fogies with no knowledge of modern digital production. sad Anyways, that's what the comments on ratemyprofessors are telling me. Gaaaaahhhh.

On the bright side, I GOT A CALL BACK FROM ONE OF THE PA JOBS I APPLIED FOR!!!!!!! The guy was totally laid back and just said I should give him a call and stop by his office whenever I happen to be in town. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! grin
