What is this??? We're gonna let this thread die just because Andalite-Rick is gone (for now)?

There's at least 4 of us left.

So, not that anyone cares, but I passed the exemption exam for one of the boring entry level film classes, which means I can take Film History and other "foundation courses." While I am not taking production classes, I joined the Filmmakers Collective at my school and will be applying to several jobs in the cinema department.

I also got a second interview with this one production company downtown. Actually, the dude had forgotten he had interviewed me before, but I wasn't gonna pass up an opportunity to give a lasting impression. Gotta say, it doesn't matter how awesome public transit is in your town, not having a car is a killer when looking for PA work.

Me and my friend have a nice rough draft written for a short film we intend to make in the next month or so. I'm confident that this project will actually be completed!

Good luck bacon. Hm, that reminds me I gotta talk to my friend who is collaborating with me on our own script. After summer ended we each had new priorities and forgot about it.

Also I convinced my counselor I was more than qualified for a beginning film theory class so she signed off on me not having to take it. grin
Combined with the exemption exam for that other class I passed, that's two classes down and it's only 3 weeks into the semester. Woooo!

So I got a call back for a crew position on a gay horror film. And I mean that literally...the production company specializes in LGBT Horror entertainment. Ah, San Francisco, you never cease to amaze.

The woes of being uninspired and lacking any drive anymore and working freelance are starting to catch up to me. tongue Shame there aren't many staff editing jobs out there.

Just now putting the finishing touches on my documentary; Adobe DVD Encore 1.5 screwed up on me, so I have to reinstall the thing. Can't believe I had the project sitting around for almost 2 years. I shot it with my old camera, not my professional one. Along with developing another music video shoot with an indie artist, I'm working with a Talent Manager now and she is willing to develop one of my scripts if it's comedy and it's good. The only comedy I've ever written was written 8 years ago, so imagine that; my old Master's Thesis. I presented it, and just waiting to hear the feedback on the full-length script. Never thought that script would see the light of day.

So I got a call back for a crew position on a gay horror film.

That sounds far out - gay/lesbian cinema is around, took a class in that once, and their movies are bizarre and fun to analyze.

Anthony Hemingway has gotten the filmmaking break of a lifetime!
Check my signature.

I wonder what that phone call was like?

George Lucas: Hello Anthony, this is George Lucas. Steven Spielberg and I are finished with INDY IV, the CLONE WARS has been released, but I'm ready to produce another film. You'll have a huge budget and ILM at your disposal. Would you like to direct RED TAILS?

Anthony: shock (dull thud as he faints.)

I figure you guys can help me out.

I'm planning on taking my brother's oldschool MiniDV video camera on holidays with me. Only got a couple of tapes but I don't plan on filming much. My question is...how much storage space will the video from that take when I dump it onto this laptop, approximately?

Well that depends on what level of quality you store it at, and what you are planning on doing with it. Are you editing it, putting it onto YouTube, storing it as compressed videos on your computer (Quicktime vids, Windows Media Files etc)

Well when you copy it as a raw and uncompressed .dv file it's like 1 GB per 10 minutes of footage right?

I've got a video conversion program, so I could shrink it down if necessary, though I'd rather not lose too much quality.

1GB per 10mins sounds pretty big....though this is a new PC so I've got plenty of space.

External Harddrives are handy for this very reason.

There are also some decent codecs available that while they shrink the video down the video still looks pretty good. My personal fave is the Quicktime H264.
