Wow, I actually really like many of the movies mentioned in this thread.
There are a lot of movies that I've been disappointed with, but hated? I can't think of any movie that I actually completely loathe with all of my life, and that would potentially lead me to gouging out my eyes and ears.
I actually find it hard to believe that so many people actually hate the movies they are mentioning. It seems much more plausible that many of the said movies didn't live up to the perceived hype, thus resulting in a hatred of the emotional letdown, disappointment, and failed expectations, rather than of the movie itself. That as well as a general grudge towards the mainstream. I suspect that if there were less hype, reviews, and global commentary on movies, there would also be a lot less hatred.
And while I hate the "you just don't like it because you don't understand it" argument, I do think it is important to at least give a little consideration to how other people may have perceived the intent of the movie instead of just one's own view. For example, many people talk about the preachiness about racism in Crash, whereas I saw a completely different movie in that film.
