Bush:

"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," the President said to the country's legislative body, "We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is –- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

It was a poor stage for such a commentary

Indeed -

March 3. 1939 - Britain and France declare war on Germany when Hitler refuses to get his jack booted bum out of Poland.

December 7th, 1941 - the US gets involved as a country (even though volunteers have been hopping it to Canada to actually join the war for the past 2 years...)

I guess I'm confused by some of the disdain for cable news channels here. Admittedly, they aren't really that great of sources, but I'm wondering what some of you use as an alternative source. Because, for instance, it would be silly to say that you think CNN is terrible, but you get your news from CNN.com, or that you think MSNBC is awful and biased, and so instead get your news from msn.com. Point being, those of you vaunting "the internet" as such a great news source, I'm curious which sites in specific you refer to on a regular basis, as their quality can be evaluated just as easily as can something that comes on TV.

You and me both, Jello.

I usually rely on NPR and the News Hour with Jim Lehrer, but when I use the internet, I usually go to the Economist.com (my homepage), drudgereport, BBC, and various local newspaper sites (Boston Herald, Washington Post, New York Times, etc). I use politico for most of my on-line news analysis. But my beef with cable news stations is sort of negated with their websites. On the internet, CNN and Fox (at least) are a bit more reasonable and "straight" with the news they dish out. I don't frequent their sites, but from what I've seen, their websites seem to at least be more legitimate than their shows.

I wonder is Cali lifting the ban on gay marriage will backfire on Obama. He's undoubtedly going to be asked by a reporter how he feels about the decision, and he's going to lose support no matter what his response.

He's already stated that he's against gay marriage, but for civil unions, which is the same as what Hillary's said. I don't think that sticking to that stance is going to make him lose anyone, because there's no one with a more liberal stance for them to fall back on. Unless they decide to abstain completely and stay home in protest.

I tend to agree with Obama on this, although I don't think that the government should be "marrying" people under any circumstances. It should be civil unions for everybody.

George Bush is a moron, seriously. He has done far more harm to this country than he has to help it. He's destroyed our reputation in the international arena, the value of the dollar is at the lowest it's been in quite a while, and he has gotten us involved in a conflict that may take many decades (and trillions of dollars) to completely resolve.

I loved his simile about negotiating with enemies or "terrorists" as he likes to word it, likening it to appeasing the Nazis. It's so clever considering he's in Israel, a Jewish country. Great thinking, Mr. President! The only thing that can really be related to the Nazis is your policy of "agree with us completely or you're in the Axis of Evil". Under that logic, every country with the exception of the U.S., Great Britain, and Israel is in the "Axis of Evil".

I would love to see Bush have a debate with Obama, with Bush being ripped a new one in the process but I suppose McCain will have to do.

I don't think what Bush said was anti-Obama. If anything it was anti-Jimmy Carter, who wants to talk with terrorists.

If people actually want the situation in Palestine to have something of a remotely peaceful end in our lifetime, guess what, you're going to have to talk with Hamas. Carter was absolutely correct to do what he did.
