Jabba-wocky posted: That, on top of the historic reality that blacks have repeatedly shown themselves willing to vote for candidates of a different race, whereas whites have repeatedly shown themselves unwilling to do the same, and I think I can see why this dynamic is talked about the way that it is.
When, in the 1950s?
I disagree. I believe today that a majority of white Republican voters would vote for a black Republican candidate over a white Democratic candidate.
If it is McCain vs. Obama in the General Election, I guarantee Obama gets around 93% of the black vote, while there is no way that McCain would get 93% of the white vote. White voters are the ones more willing to cross over the race barrier.

The phenomena is called the Bradley Effect, and was coined following the California gubernatorial race of 1982. There are good cases up throughout the 90s. You are incorrect, besides misconstruing the issue. That is, it makes sense for have African-Americans to vote overwhelmingly democratic in a generic party match-up, because African-Americans are the most reliable part of the Democratic base, and were long before black candidates were getting any serious placement on the ballot. What we're trying to get at is situations where race might've been the deciding (or a very important) factor in how the vote was cast, and see how racism might've come into play. Not find times were there is coincidentally a racial breakdown to the nature of the vote.

This whole West Virginians are ignorant and racist thing is a little ridiculous. I take offense to this as someone who is from West Virginia. You're basing this on an exit poll and statistics, both of which can be manipulated and skewed to show anything. While I do not agree with the political opinions of the majority of my state or the exit polls, I am proud of the record voter turnout for our primary.

A few of my friends who are "guilty white, limousine liberals" can't wait for a black man to be elected President. I think they believe that electing Obama would be reparations for slavery. As if saying "All is forgiving now." Electing a black man as President should not and will not erase the terrible history of slavery in this country.
No, I agree that voting for a black President to collectively "forgive" ourselves is ridiculous. But there's a school of thought out there that electing a black President would be a significant first step to repairing our reputation abroad.

I've heard a lot of people say that. But I don't really care if other countries would think better of us if we elected a black man as President. If we did elect Obama, a lot of countries probably would think better of us. But just because Obama is black, is not a good enough reason to elect someone solely based on race.

Before the era of "Point point, Clap clap" Chris Matthews once observed out that the way Hillary Clinton joins the crowd in clapping for herself is bizarre, and looks like something out of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party).
I'm also kind of shocked that after 506's initial reference, there's been almost no discussion of the furor over Bush/McCain v Obama "appeasement" thing. I don't think Hillary's gotten any coverage at all in the last 24 hours because of it. I guess you could say that Bush's disastrous propensity to make "bold" moves that turn out to strengthen his opponents has, for once, worked out for the American people, then. As an added bonus, we get Chris Matthews owning some Republican commentator for not knowing what appeasement means.

Wow, Mike that was extraordinarily dumb. You try ad lay this groundwork of legal gun owners being responsible people, and then you make a crack about a political opponent ducking because someone aimed a gun at them. Dear God, am I glad you were shoved out of the race.

What is it with the NRA in this campaign? Guliani took a call from his wife while making a speech, and now this.
The first part of the joke, about Obama and a chair, seemed to go over at least decently. Then he made the rest of the "joke", and I think you hear more talk at your average funeral than what you heard after that.

Obama May Levy $15 Billion Tax on Oil Company Profit
Thoughts? The folks at the forum where I picked this up seemed to indicate Obama missed Economics 101. I really don't know.
