Also, that McCain speech before Hillary was horrific. I have never heard such a boring, repetitive speech. It might be more repetitive than Obama & Hillary. He basically now is trying to convey Obama's message, only with conservative message instead (We both represent strong change to Washington, only I'm the good change and he's backward change. "A Leader We Can Believe In.") He's a joke, and it's not even the first day of summer yet.

Obama's no different, in my mind. He just happens to be winning.
That's simply untrue. Obama is not as selfish as Clinton, and I think he's far from being the narcissistic, selfish person that she is. I don't think he would choose to rationalize that which cannot be rationalized by any reasonable person. He'll spin stuff, of course, as most politicians do, but she (and her husband) cross a line that almost no one else crosses.

Fair enough point. I don't think he would try to sink the party to further his causes.
So I'll amend it to say that he can be as manipulative and deceitful, but not as selfish.

Damn. Either way, she wins.

Rather Palpatine-ish, no?
Order 66 will be carried out at Convention night when all of the sudden all the superdelegates vote for her. The Great Obama Purge.

He has his own version of narcissism, though. He claims that his nomination is a turning point in American history that our grandchildren will be talking about, blah, blah.
There might be some truth to it, but the end of his speech had a definite demagoguery feel to it and reminded me what made me uneasy about him in the first place.

My thoughts exactly. It had a very messianic feel to the speech and the reaction. This is why I won't vote for him.

I can understand that. I think there's a lot of "we" to his view, though, and I don't think he thinks he can do it alone, or that he should.

I just don't think that's a valid reason not to vote for someone (or vote for them for that matter). Obama's policies are what make me want to vote for him, and his handling of his campaign. He's just taken down the Democratic machine of the age (at least nationally), and he did it by choosing good people around him and making wise decisions overall. That bodes well for a presidency.

I agree, Josh. He definitely communicates his vision better than most. But there is no doubt that he firmly believes that America is only capable of greatness with him at the helm--that he is the savior and only he can marshal the forces to achieve salvation.
This isn't to say that most candidates don't suffer from this kind of attitude. I don't think you go for this kind of job without thinking that way at least a little. I've just never seen it so pronounced in one man in my lifetime as I've seen it in him. It's downright scary to me.

No, actually. If Jesus himself came down from a Heaven in a flaming chariot and ran for the Presidency, no, I wouldn't vote for him.
I'd be pretty frackin' scared, truthfully.

A person of black descent just won the nomination of one of the two major parties for the first time in American history. How is that not history that we'll be talking about with our grandchildren? Ferraro is still mentioned, and she was a woman on the bottom-half.

Yeah, ditto with SLR and Souderwan. The way Obama speaks is just frightening.
I'd really rather have John Kerry as president than him. Or even Bill Clinton.
Still not Reagan though. *shudder*
