I'm not sure what I think about the idea of tattoos being addictive. I'll admit my daughter having gotten 5 that I can quickly think of kinda leads me to think it can be.

Rachel, none of the pictures in the opening post worked and now I'm very curious about them.
I got my ears pierced when I was 12 and almost never wore earrings, haven't at all in probably 5 years. I'm very adventurous.

I think tattooing is a real artform, I've seen some amazing work. Especially when people plan it and don't just get random tattoos but have an overall theme that works as one cohesive piece. Of course it can also be pretty tacky. 
I used to get traditional mehndi art, and did it myself a few times. It's really beautiful.

The tattoo that I'm planning will have several different bits that might seem random at first but I'm hoping I can get it to all work well together.

Injecting ink under my skin or punching holes through cartilage somehow doesn't appeal to me. And then there's the whole permanent-unless-I-am-willing-to-endure-a-painful-procedure thing with tattoos.

Ah, ok Rachel, apparently the problem is my school's adult content filter blocking that site. I am familiar with the idea of scarification in traditional cultures but have not seen anything of it in Western culture.

I used to have my ears pierced (lots of metal and plastic in them ), but I took them out a few years ago. Ears healed over too well, I think.
As for tattoos, I've been considering it on and off for years now. I want something small, unobtrusive, and easy to hide. Oh, and tasteful.
My co-worker's got a zombie SS officer on his leg, and it getting a WWI aerial battle on the other this weekend. Looks real nice.
