FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say officers found him cutting up cocaine with a credit card Thursday morning.

The 25-year-old Jones and two other men were inside a Toyota SUV in Fayetteville just after 12:40 a.m. Thursday when officers approached. Officers saw a card covered in a white powder in Jones' lap as he used a credit card to scrape it, a police report said.

Officers opened the door and ordered Jones to put his hands in the air. According to the report, Jones kept his left hand out of view, forcing at least one officer to draw his handgun.

Jones, 25-year-old Jared Hicks and 26-year-old Benjamin Cook were arrested. Officers say they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Officers questioned Jones and he acknowledged the white powder was cocaine, the report said.

Hicks and Cook were arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Jones was being held Thursday at the Washington County jail on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance, and is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.

The team was waiting to learn details of the case before commenting.

"We're trying to investigate that now," Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said of Jones' arrest. "We don't have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts."

Officers say Hicks had a small plastic straw coated with suspected cocaine behind his ear. Both Cook and Hicks face misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia. Neither was in jail Thursday morning, officials said.

Jones was a star quarterback at Arkansas, throwing for 5,857 yards and running for 2,535. He was a first-round draft pick in 2005, but failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be.

Jones caught 77 passes for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns in his first two pro seasons, but struggled in 2007. Coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones' demeanor and work ethic last season, making him inactive for three games.

In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson.

Manning has bursa sac removed

In this May 16, 2008 file photo, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning passes during a football minicamp at the team's training facility in Indianapolis. Manning had a medical procedure to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee, Monday, July 14, 2008.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning had a medical procedure Monday to remove an infected bursa sac from his left knee.

Colts president Bill Polian announced the procedure, described as routine, on Monday night. Polian said the team’s medical staff expects Manning to have “a full and complete return to action” in four to six weeks. Colts training camp begins July 25.

Polian said Manning has been receiving “conservative” treatment for the inflamed bursa sac since February. He said that treatment was effective until Manning experienced increased pain and early signs of infection.

Manning has started 160 straight games dating back to the first game of his rookie season. He has the longest streak in the league if Brett Favre remains retired.

“I’m going into my 11th year. I’m 32, but I really feel I’m in a younger body than that,” Manning said last week. “I feel I’m in a 28-year-old body because I’ve had great protection from my offensive line. I feel that’s hopefully going to allow me to play a number of more years.”

love

I <3 how much of a team player he is and how he gives credit where credit is due. Speedy recovery, Manning!

Doesn't he always do that?

I'm no Patriots fan, but I admire Tom Brady for the kind of team leader he is. I was reading awhile back that he was offered a commercial, but agreed only on the condition that his offensive line be in the commercial as well.

Manning seems a bit self-absorbed to me. Maybe I'm wrong.

I guess I like the deal. Sean Payton has coveted Shockey for some time now, so he must have a plan for him in this offense. If he thinks Shockey will get us over the top, I'm with him. Here's more of my thoughts.

I just worry about the Saints future. They are going the Washington Redskins route in next year's draft with only 3 picks left right now (1st, 3rd or 4th and 7th).
