Welcome to the Your Jedi Council Community
Welcome to the Your Jedi Council Community (YJCC, or more commonly, JCC) forum of theForce.net’s Jedi Council forums!
This thread is designed to help new members get to know the general feeling of the forum and board system. Also to hopefully answer some questions you might have.
Here are some links to general information that it is always handy to know: - Terms of Service - These are the general, all-encompassing rules of the 'Jedi Council'. Whenever you post on these boards, there is a link to this, and by posting, you are agreeing to these guidelines. They are the general guidelines from which the moderators operate under
- The Official Welcome Thread - This is a thread that contains answers to some of the more commonly asked questions.
- Rules and Announcements - A Place which serves as the official location for threads dedicated to the rules and announcements of the Jedi Council Forums.
- Newbie Adoption Thread - A thread that exists in the Welcome New Users forum where users that are new to the boards can get the help of older forum members to get to know the ins and outs of the forums.

You will notice that the JCC is part of the JC Community section of TF.N. Besides the JCC, the JC Community umbrella covers the following forums: - The Amphitheatre - Discuss and debate music (film music, instruments, classical, theory), art, literature, dramatic works (film, theater, TV) and cultural topics with your fellow Jedi Council members.
- The Senate Floor - Come discuss and debate important social, political, and cultural issues with your fellow Jedi Council members.
- Census and Games - A place to vote in tournaments and polls and to play games on a wide variety of topics. Only Moderators post polls, but everyone is welcome to participate.

FAQ
QUESTION: As a new member, what should I do first?
ANSWER:After registering, it's always a good idea to fill out your profile to let people know who you are. secondly, you might want to visit the Welcome New Users forum. If you are interested in being adopted (having an older user help you out and show you around) please check out the Newbie Adoptions. It is recommended that you hold off on making threads in JCC until after you have become acquainted with the forum. If you do not, you risk having your thread locked... primarily for redundancy or it being in the wrong forum. Also, please take a minute to check out the JCC Rules and Policy thread.
QUESTION: Is Star Wars discussion/conversation allowed in the JCC?
ANSWER: No, the purpose of the JC Community is to discuss everything but Star Wars. If you wish to discuss star wars in a light hearted manner, please check out Star Wars Community Forum. There is one exception: the Star Wars memories thread where random social discussion based around Star Wars can be taken to.
QUESTION: I've got a great idea for a thread, can I post it?
ANSWER: First, are you sure this is a new idea? Use the google search box on top of the screen or use the search function .. check the thread index... and scan the first couple pages before posting your thread, please. Also make sure your topic is appropriate for JCC. Then, go ahead.
QUESTION: I've checked the last five pages or so, and I don't see my topic. Can I post it?
ANSWER: In JCC, if you post a thread, and one has been made on the same topic, and posted in within the last month... yours will be locked. So checking the first 5 pages isn't adequate. If a thread on your topic hasn't been posted in in than 1 month, go ahead, you're all set.
QUESTION: I started a thread earlier, but now it's gone! What happened to it?
ANSWER: A few things could have happened. Have you checked on page 2, 3, 4, etc? Check your most recent posts list for a direct link to your thread. Also, perhaps your thread was deleted for one reason or another. Generally this is ONLY done for advertising threads or trolling threads with inappropriate images. If you are having trouble, please PM any of the mods and simply ask.
QUESTION: Can I start a thread advertising my website?
ANSWER: Absolutely not. Posting a thread simply to advertise one's website is against the rules. If you wish for others at the JC forums to know about your website, try putting your link in your signature. Although, if you wish to advertise your STAR WARS website, you may do so in the fan sites forum, but that is more a site to get constructive feedback and help from other JCCers than it is to recruit members for your website.
QUESTION: What is a "troll"?
ANSWER: A "troll" is someone who posts with a hostile intent, posting inappropriately to cause others harm or annoyance. A person is said to be "trolling" if he/she posts with the obvious intent of riling up the other members, and to "get a rise out of them". This is usually punished by a ban, unless it is a minor first offense.
QUESTION: I think I might have identified a user who is "trolling." What do I do?
ANSWER: Contact any moderator who is online (by checking the online links at the top of the forum) to report the suspected troll. Make sure you include the link of the thread(s) in which you spotted the troll as it will help us take care of the situation much faster. PMs will be treated confidential.
QUESTION: What is "spam"?
ANSWER: A definition of spam e-mail is something that is unnecessary and unsolicitated. Spam can also be trolling or advertising (also by PM). But spam can also be pointless posts in threads that adds nothing to the discussion and merely serves to up your post count. Spam is highly discouraged.
QUESTION: What is "spamming"?
ANSWER: The act of filling the forums with unnecessary or irrelevant posts is considered "spamming". It is also considered spamming to advertise excessively for other websites, and also solicit (trading, selling or buying). Other examples of spamming include: posting unnecessary comments (ie: +1) for any reason can be considered spamming, upping old threads [such as those from a year ago], posting multiple threads about absolutely nothing, flooding a pre-existing thread with nonsense posts to derail a topic, as well as bothering other people with repeated PMs. Spamming is a banable offense.
QUESTION: What is "flaming"?
ANSWER: Insulting or antagonizing another JCer can be considered "flaming". This is a banable offense as well.
Remember to argue/attack IDEAS not people. if you can't win your argument or make your point without insulting the person, you need to leave the conversation.
QUESTION: What do I do if I find myself being flamed by another member?
ANSWER: Contact any mod via PM. There are PM links at the top of the forum for each JCC mod, the other mods can be found by using the mods online link. It is suggested you PM a mod that is online at the time. Make sure you include the link of the thread(s) in which you were flamed. If the flaming occured via PM, then include a screen shot of the PM (if possible).
QUESTION: What is a "sock" or "sock puppet"?
ANSWER: A sock is an additional JC account. Everyone has a main account, and any accounts besides that one are considered socks. Socks are used for jokes, to have fun, to hide who they are, for games, RPGS, or a few other reasons. It is not against the rules to use socks, but they must be used responsibily... not to insult or impersonate other members, or to troll or spam.
QUESTION: What words are considered profanity?
ANSWER:

QUESTION: Is it OK if I use edited profanity? Like replacing a vowel or two with an asterisk?
ANSWER: The only way you can do that is if you star out every single letter of the swear word.
QUESTION: Is discussion of drug use allowed in this forum, like, say, in a social thread?
ANSWER: Illegal drug discussion or promotion is not allowed. You may discuss drugs that are legal in the US.
QUESTION: What's involved in banning? What's the story there? Can people come BACK from bannings? What do I do if I get banned? I need more info!
ANSWER: If you find yourself banned, please send in an unban request, and a moderator will let you know what you were banned for and how long your ban is for. bans are given for a variety of reasons and a wide variety of lengths. If you do not receive a reponse, please contact one of us, or go directly to an admin.
QUESTION: Who are the admins?
ANSWER: ObiWan506, LAJ_Fett, and General Kenobi
QUESTION: How do I get those pretty colors for my name?
ANSWER: Colors are only available for VIPs, Moderators, Managers, and Admins. VIP positions are reserved for TheForce.Net (TF.N) staff, and actual Star Wars novel authors and actors. But VIP colors are sometimes given as rewards... to winners of games, banner makers, or a few other things. All moderators have colors to be easily identified. Every VIP has to follow the VIP Code of Conduct.
Some Advice:
Think before you post - Did your post add something of value to the conversation? Did you use any questionable words? Did you say something that might be misunderstood as inflamatory by others? What would your mother think of your post? If you have any doubts about anything that is in your post, edit the questionable material before you click post.
Post count not make one great - Believe it or not, quality of posts is much more respected than quantity of posts. Remember that when on a mad-posting spree in hopes of raising your post count.
Be nice to everybody - Every single user on this board was at once a newbie. Remember to be kind to all users - always treat others they way in which you wish to be treated. You never know, you might discover an incredible person and a new friend along the way.
We're all in this together.... - In order for the JCC to become a better online community, the change has to come not from the mods, but from the regular users. Rather than just closing the thread with a troll and thinking "it is not my problem," take it upon yourself to contact a mod with the link of the thread. Rather than joining a group engaging in newbie-bashing, take a stand and defend that newbie against the attack. We are all in this together, and if we work together, the JCC can be a terrific online community in which to spend time.

Yeah, Boba_Fett_2001's question was a non-serious one posted on April Fool's Day. A good reason never to post a sticky on 4/1. 
Plenty of people have created icons they like and gotten them accepted and uploaded, though. Look for the Icon Thread in Comms--I believe the instructions are in the first post.
