According to Pew Research Center, her favorable ratings among most Americans are high and her unfavorables are low. Plus, she's smarter than all 3 candidates running right now.
I can almost predict the responses to this question now, but I personally would love to see her on the ticket.

Hoo, boy . . . he'd really be throwing in his lot with the hawkish camp if he did that. Rice made some terrible calls about the war, but if she's got a high approval rating, then I guess that must mean most Americans don't remember/don't care.
I bet you're right that she's on the shortlist, though.

He needs to be doing THE EXACT OPPOSITE of associating himself with the Bush administration in any way, shape, or form.

If McCain is trying to cement his position as Bush III, this is a great move.

For whatever reason she hasn't been "tainted" (for lack of a better word) by this administration. I'm certainly hoping McCain picks her.
Amazing.

Amazing.
I don't know about that - I think she is inextricably linked, and considered by many to be the poorest secretary of state we have ever had.
Even if she isn't linked to Bush, Obama will go out of his way. Its like handing him a loaded gun made of win.

I don't see anything she's done that would even remotely qualify her as "smart".

Here's the thing, imo. The people who are going to cry "Bush III!!!!11!!elventy-ONE!!" aren't going to vote for McCain if he made Jesus his VP pick (damned religious right-wing-nut, that Jesus, fellow!) wouldn't vote for McCain anyway, so whatever.
Now I don't think for one second that he'd actually pick Condi Rice because, other than being a black woman and 100 times smarter than him, she doesn't really bring much to the table for him politically and will just give people ammunition about the Bush III crap. He needs someone strong on the economy and that's hopefully where he'll go (just not Romney, please!!! )
That said, I think that she's far more qualified than any of the dolts currently running for office.
Edit: Tina. I have a hard time taking you seriously when you say patently stupid stuff like that. But whatever.

If he picked Rice, Obama should turn around and pick Janet Napolitano. That would neutralize Rice's appeal to women, and provide Obama with someone with far more executive experience, not to mention political savvy.

She graduated high school like 2 years early and won a million scholarships and awards and stuff. She is, by common standards, brilliant.
She still makes terrible decisions about reasonable grounds to invade other countries, though.

She really hasn't done a very good job at State. To me she's a bigger dolt than Fred Dalton Thompson

There's people who can be very accomplished academically yet are absolutely horrible at anything they do IRL when they're out of school. Just judging by what she's done during the Bush administration, she strikes me as a dim bulb. Powell would be 1,000 times better than her.

OMG. I graduated high school two years early, won a bunch of scholarships, and I am going to a better undergraduate program than Condi. I should be VP!
Hit me up McCain. My phone is always on.

No matter who the VP is, the Democrat nominee (it's still not over), will go out of their way to link him or her and McCain to Bush.
But who are McCain's other possibilities? They're all old white guys. And in a year when the story has been Women Candidate and Black Candidate, a ticket of Old White Guys is going to look decidedly old-fashion. The VP pretty much never has any impact on election results. But given McCain's age, his need to shore up the conservative base, and the fact that someone somewhere will try to treat all criticisms of his eventual opponent as either a race thing or a gender thing, Rice is the absolute best choice.
Amazing.

Yes, not to mention that given McCain's age, well, one never knows...
Don't get me wrong. It would be great to have an African-American woman as president, but I don't think Condi's the one.
