Remember that a lot of the Bible is just actual history, and not necessarily something prefaced with "Thus saith the Lord".

Honestly, the whole crucifixion dealeo was quite the turnoff for me as a kid. I still remember how much it used to freak me out on a Sunday morning as I'd go into Church and see a towering sculpture of Jesus nailed to a cross with realistic-looking blood oozing from his hands, feet, sides, and head.

Yeah...real wholesome, Church was.
