Souderwan posted: Honestly, the whole crucifixion dealeo was quite the turnoff for me as a kid. I still remember how much it used to freak me out on a Sunday morning as I'd go into Church and see a towering sculpture of Jesus nailed to a cross with realistic-looking blood oozing from his hands, feet, sides, and head.
Yeah...real wholesome, Church was.
You must have gone to a Catholic Church.

Most of them are pretty bad, looking at them in a purely literary sense. Many translations and additions (not just the Bible) really **** up stories... well, writing down oral tradition isn't really that easy either.
The worst one is probably that Genesis chapter with "begat." Horrible, horrible reading. Take that **** out!

I like the story about how the universe was created in seven days. What I like even better is how some sad people still cling to that story as the literal truth.

The one where Jesus comes out of his tomb, sees his shadow, and we have six more weeks of winter.

Oh boy.
You've caught not. Not everything in the Bible is inspired by the Holy Ghost.
Oh noes, teh christians are going to come at me and say "all scripture is God-breathed". But . . . that's the definition of scripture. If it's in the Bible but not God-breathed, then it's not scripture.
I mean, seriously, you think that all the genealogies in the Bible are Holy Ghost inspired? No, they're a recording of important Hebrews at the time.
This story is part of the history of ancient Israel, hence it made it into the Bible. Doesn't have to be Holy Ghost inspired.

What the **** is the point of that?
I've asked four church guys from three orientations, and not one of them could tell me what the **** is going on here.
This and this may be of some help in explaining things to you.
Abbreviated version: It shows what happens when the Israelites refused to obey the Law that had been given to them by God. This act was something of a wakeup call for them as the laws were designed to prevent this from happening. Not only is it about the woman who was brutally murdered, but it also illustrated how many other Israelites were ignoring the law too. This kind of disobedience would only lead to further strife and thus set a chain of events in motion which eventually lead to the establishment of a King and a central figurehead for Israel.
