I was in Germany once but I never visited the JC while there, because I only had net access from internet cafes!
What I meant though was that sometimes the amount of people expressing viewpoints here like Darth Bumble is depressing to me, that so many people in this country have those kinds of baseless and nationalistic viewpoints. It's just like kind of "arrrghhhhh."

And that's why France turned around and elected the most overtly pro-American president in modern history? I think that sometimes we have a very distorted view of how the rest of the world really sees America. Sure, the socialists, anti-Israelists, etc. hate America, but they hated America anyway. True lovers of freedom still see America as a beacon, despite all its faults.
I love freedom and I see America as a country rife with social problems that many have already gotten past. Abortion, same-sex marriage, healthcare..
I could move to America and I'd be happy to have the freedom to work. But happy to have the freedom not to earn enough, get sick and die?

Remarkably, you also have the freedom to earn whatever you're willing to work for, see the best doctors in the world, and live a long and healthy life, too. But whatever.
On topic: Freedom fries were dumb. It was jingoistic and transparently pathetic. Remarkably, the disgusting American capitalistic system that so many despise took care of it 'cause it died a quick death when no one outside of the beltway was buying them. Funny that.
I'll agree with J-Rod on this--the sewage plant idea is a pathetic use of taxpayer resources so that a bunch of politicians can pat themselves on the back about how much they despise George Bush and maybe get a few more "I Hate Bush" votes.
I find it childish and moronic, not to mention outright disrespectful to do it, but that doesn't matter--I'm not from San Fransisco. If people from San Fransisco want to do it, God bless 'em. That's local government at its best--representing the desires of it's constituency. That's what freedom is all about.
