I really don't get J-Rod's argument. Even if homosexual pairings were inferior, (which they're not, but that's not the point) it's not Uncle Sam or anyone else's business to tell two consenting adults they can't get married, while still claiming "Liberty and justice for all".

Going by J-Rod's logic, infertile people shouldn't be allowed to get married either, because obviously procreation, and not nurturing, is the main purpose of any household. Oh wait plain

To me, it just comes off incredibly arrogant to look a homosexual in the eye and tell them "You shouldn't be allowed to have the same rights that I have, because you're inferior. Let alone that it's none of my damned business what you do in your own bedroom with other consenting adults, and that studies show you're just as good at raising children as I am."

Re-read my posts, I covered this already. The government can't tell anybody that they can't marry.

Really the question is what interest of the state is served by the state recognizing a realtionship.

And Quix,

The article sasy that the relationship between the mother and child is not hurt, not that the child is unaffected.

Can you tell me that...Mothers and non-mothers in the SG and BI group, as compared to their OG controls, were significantly less likely to live in a couple relationship, had significantly lower levels of social support, higher prevalence of early negative life events, substance abuse, suicide ideation, and higher levels of psychological distress...doesn't affect the children?

C'mon, if a "peer study" tells you that these events don't affect a child then they are lying to you.

If you don't think the government should be able to tell people they can't marry why are you carrying on about how "superior" other relationships are?

As for the interest of the state, I don't know...how about providing equal rights to their citizens? Pretty basic.

No, I can't. However, fron that study, you can't say that it does, as this study doesn't examine how, if at all, it would affect the children. The purpose of the study was to examine "the well-being of mothers and non-mothers reporting exclusive opposite-gender sexual partners , same-gender sexual partners, or both."

The article also says that "[t]he results further indicated that sexual orientation did not account for unique variance in women’s psychological distress beyond that afforded by their social milieu, health risk factors, and parenthood status," and that "[n]o significant differences were found for the quality of mothers’ relationship with children."

J-Rod, you keep talking about the "state's interest" in recognizing the lol "superior" relationship of man/woman. Have you considered the state's interest in refusing to marginalize a potentially oppressed minority?

Well, let's see, there's at least 16 years of data and 30+ studies saying that these kids come out well adjusted, so unless there are a lot of liars in the research community, I'm going to go with the peer reviewed researchers and say that apparently it doesn't affect them. Really, J-Rod, why are you cherry picking data and ignoring the larger trends?

Quix why would someone go with years of peer-reviewed journals when they can make off the cuff statements that they back up by cherry picking facts that support them?

this is why tend to not support gay marriage. it's simpler. i really think that if they change it to allow gay marriage it is terribly unfair to people in polyamorous situations. all or none.

All or none would mean that nobody is allowed to get married, at all.
