That's true.  Now I'm torn, as I've always agreed with the idea of women as property.

My point is why the hell do we still have marriage anyway?
If people want to share their bank accounts, their finances, etc., I think they should be allowed to. Then of course when it comes to children, the biological parents have joint custody of the kids and we can sort out the custody and stuff in court.
My position is get rid of civil marriage as a technical institution (although there would be ways to have the same effects of it - legal name changes, etc.), so that both the homosexuals and the religious right SHUT THE HELL UP.

I think they can marry one of their husbands or wives and still love the rest and live happily ever after. They're not excluded from marriage because they can marry at least one of the people they love. Homosexuals can't marry anybody they love.
And J-Rod, the problem with that argument that marriage is about procreation and the man/woman relationship is the only relationship that can create children is that, well, that's just your opinion. Not the fact that a man and a women are the only people who can produce children, but that the purpose of marriage is to have children. A lot of people would say that that is not the purpose, or not the ONLY purpose. So I don't think that's a valid argument since we don't all agree with the original premise of the argument in the first place.

Fun. The California voters can approve another unconstitutional law that the judges can then overturn again. Eventually California can use ALL of its budget to pay for these legal proceedings to challenge unconstitutional laws. Or the Californian voters can wise up and realize that even the almighty power of the PEOPLE is also checked within our (supposedly) balanced system. Or they can be stupid and keep banging their collective heads against the brick wall that is the Constitution.

Unstateconstitutional or unfederalconstitutional? Because as I understand it the referendum is an amendment, which would of course make gay marriage unconstitutional in California.
