To be fair, Mr. Carmen's hat was pure white, not that dingy beige color.

My prom date for junior prom had a tux with tails, a hat, and a cane. My dress was $40.

A successful marriage has very little to do with the "perfect" wedding. I definitely didn't consult Lemming enough as I should have in the planning stages so there were a few things he would have liked that we didn't get done. We didn't spend a ton of money either. I had a gorgeous dress that I still love to this day that my mother made for me. We didn't spend a bunch of money on our rings either. We paid cash and didn't go into debt so overall I think we did good.

Am I remembering correctly that you're Mormon? /If so did you have a temple wedding? /If so did you have a ring ceremony as well?

As one of the people who profit from big, expensive weddings.... No, they're really not worth it!

I just hope I'm around to see the day the New Republic catches up with you. Whether they give you a medal or just shoot you--either way, it'll be a terrific show. Silvius hic Bonus est, sed Brito est Silvius idem: nemo bonus Brito est. --Ausonius, Epigram

When I got married, it was a small affair and we did most things ourselves. Never regretted not going into debt for that one day.

Hi Carmen
We did not get married in the temple. Lemming and I had a regular church wedding at the church I grew up in. My oldest sister got married in the temple and had a ring ceremony at the reception because many of his family were unable to attend the wedding.

The idea that YOU MUST HAVE A "PERFECT" WEDDING (whatever that means) OR YOUR MARRIAGE IS DOOOOOOOOOMED!!!!! is just a bit of clever marketing by what a wedding planning book I own refers to as "the marital-industrial complex."
You know what a perfect wedding really consists of? The bride and groom show up and say "I do." Everything else is extra fluff.
Don't forget to have fun

Since I'm not actually getting married for about two more years, I haven't seriously started planning my wedding yet. But I don't want some overblown, fancy, "perfect" wedding. The important thing is having the people we care about together to see us finally get married, and that we have a memorable event to celebrate our marriage. Memorable doesn't need to mean spending a ton of money, and I honestly don't see why women become "Bridezillas." Yeah I want a pretty dress and pretty flowers, but it's unrealistic to expect everything to go according to plan. The unpredictability of everything is part of what makes the day memorable. So yeah, when I'm planning mine, I definitely won't be one to be spending tons of money and putting us into debt before our actual married life begins.
