So, the contract with my ISP appears to be over.

I was looking to have a nap this afternoon, and I was called by my ISP. They asked me if the account holder was present. I said no, not at the moment, I can have the account holder call you back. Alternatively, the account holder will be back at about 6:30pm Atlantic time. Further, if I may ask, what was the reason for calling? It turns out it was a number of special offers. Thank you for calling, I'll pass that on to the account holder.
I go back to my nap, and about 30 minutes later, the phone rings again. I pick it up, it's my ISP again. Same reason. I ask them to refrain from calling me back. I ensure that they know when the account holder will return, and again I ask for a callback number to provide to the account holder.
I go back to my nap, and twice more they call, about every half hour to forty five minutes. I'm getting testy at this point and I'm trying not to take it out on the people I'm speaking with because it is definitely not the fault of the person I'm speaking to at any given time. I ask them to stop calling, I inform them the account holder is not present, and I disconnect the call.
I continue to try to nap, and a fifth call comes in. After I made certain of the purpose of the call, I asked to be transferred to someone who could cancel the account. I explained that this was call #5, and that getting five calls in under three hours when I had specifically asked for the calls to stop really pissed me off and I was cancelling. I didn't cancel - I wasn't going to do that to the account holder - but it did get them to stop calling.

I usually just put curses of infertility, leprosy, and paper cuts upon people's future children under related circumstances.

My phone has a button that does basically the same thing: 'do not disturb'. I tend to keep it on that, and check the voicemails whenever I can be bothered to.

My dad leaves the phone off the hook for a while after telemarketers call. He is convinced it wastes their money.

Sometimes I place the phone next to the speakers and play stupid Youtube videos. Sometimes I try to sell them something. One time I used the bathroom, being sure to exaggerate my bodily noises and hold the phone next to the toilet when I flushed.

We subscribe two years ago to Non call list. Since that we stopped receiving telemarketing phone calls.  Except when we are having local elections we get politics phone calls.

Doesn't keep you from getting bothered. If you have any sort of relationship with a business, they're allowed to call ya for 18 months, unless you tell them not to each time. Imagine how repetitive that could get having to tell that to your local pizza place every time you order a pizza.

Is this a major ISP, or a more local one? I've dealt with 4 or 5 different hosts over the years and have never been hassled like that.
(Well, except in the glory days when LFL sent me several C&D's..  )

My ISP is a local brand of a national line. Also, I'm Canadian. The American registery for not being called doesn't cover me.
