As you may or may not be aware, the JCC moderator known as ophelia owns a pet hedgehog, and this hedgehogs name is Indiana The Hedgehog.
In this thread ophelia has agreed to answer all questions about hedgehogs in general and Indiana The Hedgehog in specific. Ophelia has agreed to share any amusing stories of antics that Indiana The Hedgehog has gotten up to in the past or gets up to after this thread is made. Ophelia has agreed to post nice pictures of Indiana The Hedgehog. Also ophelia has agreed to allow Indiana The Hedgehog himself to post here, under her supervision of course, to talk with us and become friends and answer any questions. Ophelia, perhaps you should make Indiana The Hedgehog's words in bold, or a color, or something!
I will start with some questions:
1. Why didn't you name him Sonic?
2. Why did you choose to get a hedgehog for a pet as opposed to a dog, hermit crab, rock, or leopard gecko?
3. Is Indiana The Hedgehog an instigator of trouble and mischief, or is he calm like a lamp?
Now for Indiana The Hedgehog himself:
Hello, Indiana the Hedgehog!!! My name is Andalite Bandit. I think that a hedgehog is a good creature. From now on we are great friends. I have some questions for you!
1. Is ophelia a cruel owner? If you request it, I will send a team to free you.
2. Do you have any mischief planned?
3. What is your favorite book?

As a moderator, I hope ophelia remembers that Indiana must register under a separate account (no account sharing) and must also be at least 13 hedgehog years of age before he is able to respond to A-B's questions.

How can you own a hedgehog and not name him "Sonic"? That's just a failure of character.

Dear ophelia:
1. What does a typical hedgehog eat as a matter of course, and does Indiana the Hedgehog's diet fit the species average?
2. Are you lying?
Dear Indiana the Hedgehog:
1. Would you ever be a governor or comparable form of territory leader? Why or why not?
2. What is your favorite kind of hedge?

Andalite posted: In this thread ophelia has agreed to answer all questions about hedgehogs in general and Indiana The Hedgehog in specific.
Dear Andalite: Thank you for warning me that I had agreed to this. These things do slip my mind.
Questions for me:
1. Why didn't you name him Sonic?
Aww, everybody names their hedgehog "Sonic." Do a Google image search on "Sonic the Hedgehog" and see how many RL pet pictures turn up.
Indiana is named after Indiana Jones, due to the amazingly inventive ways he attempted to escape his cage as a baby. He's the third hedgehog I've had, but he's the first one I've ever seen who tried to climb up the cage walls and get out through the ceiling. When that didn't work, he tried wedging himself through the bars.
Now he gets mad if you disturb his nap and try to take him out.
2. Why did you choose to get a hedgehog for a pet as opposed to a dog, hermit crab, rock, or leopard gecko?
Well . . . they're cute. And they don't bark, or shed, or have scent glands that need removing. Also, I'm not allergic to them. And I got the first one for free. The pet store wanted its stock of hedgehogs gone, for some reason.
Actually, once I got to know that particular hedgehog's personality, I figured out the reason.
3. Is Indiana The Hedgehog an instigator of trouble and mischief, or is he calm like a lamp?
He used to be an instigator of mischief--if you go back through the pages of my huge fracking fanfic novel, which has a lot of author-note references to my life circa 2005, there are a lot of notes to the effect of, "Aaaargh! The hedgehog just peed on my keyboard!!" and the like. Now, he is a geriatric hedgehog, and he's more calm like a lamp.
Hedgehogs only live from 4-6 years, and Indy will be 4 in September.
I . . . guess I'll have to make him his own account, so he can answer his questions. He's probably like 60 in hedgehog years, so he's old enough.

A really strange wordcount button that a fellow fanfic novelist once made for me. That's Indy when he was just a baby. He was about the size of a computer mouse.

Perhaps ophelia can translate Indy for us.
Until then, I'll direct my questions to her, when I come up with some.

Do Hedgehogs drop their spines? If so have you ever
a) used one as a toothpick?
2) stood on one and had it embedded in your foot?
iii) all the above.
