I saw him outside the Universal Building on 54th.

Hey! I hang out in that borders sometimes.
I sit in the back by the escalators near their crappy graphic novel section.

So... beer boots aren't really NEAR anything, so we'll have to travel anywhere. S'mac is near some good areas to explore (St. Marks, Union Square, couple of parks, etc.)...

I live in Union Square and hate it. Though if you like beer we can go to Village Pourhouse, which has 100 different kinds. I personally hate beer so I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy the whole beer boots thing... I may sort of be near that area though... if not, I can meet up on Sunday. St. Mark's is cool too... we could go to Pommes Frites, because they have the best french fries ever with a million kinds of dipping sauce. Mango chutney!

Also, it just occurred to me that beer boots are across the park from laser light shows at the Rose Center, which are then near a bunch more awesome bars / lounges / dessert after that.

I love walking across the park at night. It's really beautiful, and it's the only time of day when it's deserted enough to truly appreciate.

I really love that German restaurant, but the problem with it and all other places on 2nd Ave is, well... they're on 2nd Ave. Maybe 50 years from now when the MTA finally has that train up and running, it'll be a convenient place to get to, but right now it's such a trek to get to that it's hard to justify at times. I don't harbor much love for the east side in general.

There's a bar in the west 80's we like for Guitar Hero night on Thursdays, but I don't think it's anything special on other nights of the week, to be honest.

Dani, he was looking for Nora Ephron and I was being a typical jaded bookseller and doing my best to not have to stop reading nytimes.com on info desk computers, so I didn't really look up too much when I was like "ya, humor section, over there." Then my coworker who was also at the desk mentioned who it was. There were enough different celebs I saw shopping, but I think that was the only time one actually asked me stuff. Then again, given the amount of attention I pay to pop culture, I suspect I wouldn't recognize 75% of celebrities. Apparently I once rang up some well-known sportscaster, according to the person on the register next to me, and I had no clue who he was.

Ok, so I have a birthday party to go to at around 11 PM and I'm going to ask my friend if I can meet him on Sunday night instead of Saturday night so I can hang out with you guys. But I do have a strict "no cameras" rule. I don't enjoy pictures... unless gelato also makes an appearance. I'll gladly take some of the rest of you though!

We can do gelato on Sunday after S'mac and walk via St. Marks to the West Village where the better gelato places are.

EDIT: Obviously pending the guest of honor's desires and/or whims. tongue

I like gelato, but I intend to eat every single piece of macaroni in that restaurant.

Also I want to hear more about this Met Superheroes costume thing.

RS77, was this the Borders I used to work at? Columbus Circle? We saw him periodically. A lot of celebs come in. I once helped Spike Lee and didn't realize it until after he had walked away. sad

Oh dear god, I used to live just a few blocks away (79th and 2nd). Take it from a German, the food is awful. I'm sure the beer selection is very good, though. I'd let you all crash at my apartment, but I don't think my tenant would be too happy to have drunken geeks pass out on her floor. tongue

EDIT: as for the subway, the walk form 86th and Lex is pretty short.

So I took an ambulance to the ER today (details unnecessary) and it looks as though I may be missing out on the meeting this weekend sad But Dani, I will probably be visiting my friend in DC in August sometime, so we can always meet up there.
