Muslims have complained over a police advert featuring a puppy sitting in an officer's hat.
A police force has apologised to Islamic leaders for the "offensive" postcard advertising a new non-emergency telephone number, which shows a six-month-old trainee police dog named Rebel.
The German shepherd puppy has proved hugely popular with the public, hundreds of who have logged on to the force's website to read his online training diary.
But some Muslims in the Dundee area have reportedly been upset by the image because they consider dogs to be "ritually unclean", while shopkeepers have refused to display the advert.
Tayside Police have admitted they should have consulted their 'diversity' officers before issuing the cards...
Dear God, does British pride even exist anymore?!

It seems later in the article they were apologizing for placing the cards in particular communities, not for the overall campaign. I'll have to review my Hadith regarding unclean animals - the "dogs are unclean" is new to me, so I'm not sure if that is indicative of a larger belief or just parts of that community (the article notes "some Islamic scholars", as there are questions of interpretation).

I don't care what the Hadith says. The majority of Brits (and of Westerners in general) think dogs and especially puppies are cute animals and good companions. The Muslims in this community have a lot to learn about admiring and respecting mainstream British culture and adapting to the norms of their adopted homeland. And the police department in the area needs to show more cultural confidence and commonsense. A good start would be firing its "diversity officer."
