I remember watching Dragonball Z.
They'd get to a new power level then some alien or android thing would come along and kick their asses. During the course of 25 episodes.
Then one guy would get angry and his power would increase. During the course of 25 episodes.
Then that one guy would kick the alien/android's ass. Barely. But they'd mostly stand around staring at each other. During the course of 25 episodes.
And it would repeat.

I love that the final fight on Namek between Goku and Freeza was supposed to take place over 5 minutes while the planet was exploding. It took about 5-10 episodes of posing and screaming before the fight actually started. That is the longest 5 minutes ever..

The problem with magic as holds true for just about any story on the subject is that there is ususally some kind of trade off if you abuse it, which we would all do.
I'd take magic, as it could duplicate the effects of just about all of the others, and be a D&Dv3.5 Wizard. Loads of spells of various types with the restrictions already built into the system, and I could invent my own if I get 'em cleared with the DM. The only tricky part would be the spell components, but I could always house-rule in a "Don't Bothering Keeping Track Unless It's For A Raise Dead Spell Or Something" clause.

I think this is an interesting and informative discussion, if only more people heard about it. 
Maybe I should have named it “What Chick would you rather have?”, then more people would have click on it. 
But I still say Magic rules all the way!
With Magic you can have everything that Superpowers, The Force and Advanced tech can give you.
With Magic you can have immeasurable Power, be able to move objects with your hands AND Teleport yourself anywhere.
In HP5, Lord Voldemort could penetrate and destroy your mind in a much scarier and more powerful way Prof. X could ever hope to do!
And he could appear and disappear at will!

Superpowers are too much work
Really Advanced Technology requires me to know how to use Really Advanced Technology which requires too much effort
Magic requires memorization (see above)
So I would go with the Force. It's the Lazy Girls Alternative.
