I'm so glad that my grandmother will be at the top of this list.
Mr44 posted: Now, again, what does it indicate that Obama has also voted in favor of all of these points of law?
That he's wrong and he's (a) moving more to the center to improve his chances in November or (b) backstabbing those of us who supported him through the Hillary crap. Depending on how cynical I'm feeling.

Also, just out of curiosity, why did you pick my one post to address your post to out of an entire thread of people who also disagree with this story?
No reason, yours was just a later post that represented a collection of posts that came before yours.
What does the EU or Obama have to do with anything?
2 reasons:
1)Because one of the reasons the Justice Department is doing this is to get the FBI in line with the other intelligence services that they'll be working with (UK, France, Germany, etc..)
The EU's policy was adopted 3 years ago, and I'm not aware of any major impact that has happened as a result within the 27 EU countries. The point is that the FBI didn't just decide to go off and start looking at revamping the guidelines.
2)Someone, and I'm not looking at the specific post right now, made the comment "A vote for McCain will kiss your rights away, while a vote for Obama won't," but that statement isn't true.
Both Obama and McCain, and republicans and democrats in general are typically on the same page with stuff like this. It's not really a partisan issue.

You still haven't shown why you think this is a good idea, Mr44.

If the FISA Amendments weren't a partisan issue, why was every single Nay and Not Voting vote Democrat (and one Independent)? Just coincidence?

You still haven't shown why you think this is a good idea, Mr44.
I will, once the actual version is released. Before that happens, I wouldn't know if the idea is "good" or "bad."
See, the problem with "leaked" stories like this is that they are always based on "unnamed and/or anonymous sources" and draw conclusions that can't be checked against the actual document, because it isn't even written yet. Does "government official" mean someone high up? Does it mean janitor who works in the building? Does it mean a GOA printer who was paid to pilfer a copy? The reaction is usually the same, and typically involves a lot of snowballing and speculation.
I'm all for reporting the story, but why can't the news services just wait until the actual thing is released?
