I just gave myself an injury
|
By accidentally successfully banging my hand against the edge of my desk. And now Im in a little bit of pain, and its hurting to type.
Why do I do these things to myself, and has anyone else ever done something like this?

When I was in high school, I was playing with an axe and accidentally hit myself in the knee with the sharp end the day before soccer tryouts. I pushed through the pain and still made the team.
Other than that I haven't had any recent self-inflicted/accidental injuries that are worth mentioning

Sometimes I like to cut myself to see how much it bleeds
the pain is like adrenaline it's such a sudden rush for me

I hit a pothole going 30 mph on my bike, freaked out, crashed and broke my clavicle a month and a half ago.
I missed the last step going (running) down a staircase and managed to sprain my ankle to hell 2 days ago.
I don't know what adventures await me in the next couple weeks. But I have only one thing to say:
caution be damned.

the bottom of a broken bottle (hey, isn't that a song?) got stuck to my shoe (more like flip-flops really, but not quite... Badelatschen halt!) and smrt as I was I simply whacked it to get it off
of course I got quite the cut from that, told nobody for days and just lived with it, including swimming in the sea (salt water!).
It's a freaking miracle I'm still alive...

I stabbed myself in the eye with my thumb once. I was 6 or 7 and I went to suck my thumb, only at the last moment I was distracted and moved my head. Before I knew it my eye was where my mouth was and I'd just scratched my eyeball with my thumb nail. It really hurt.

I'm pretty much constantly sporting small open wounds that, much like Healer_Leona, I don't remember getting.
Oh and a few weeks ago the front wheel fell off my bike and I scraped about a 4x4 inch patch of skin off my side.

That happened to me.
As I hit the side of a car turning into my way.
I knew I was going down but I did not take my hands off the bars. Stupidly, I put them on the top of the bar instead of the drops, which reduced my braking power considerably.
The side of a car proved far more effective for stopping movement than any brakes, though.
EDIT: I'm not accident prone, I just... have accidents.

When my wheel fell off, it actually got caught in my front brakes, so I stopped rather suddenly, or at least the front half of me did. The rest of me kept going, now airborne, a few feet, and then a few more feet after landing on my right side/back.
It was hell when it happened but a lot of fun to look back on. And I had/have this awesome bruise/scar to show people!
