Once I put a ceramic teapot with a wicker handle in the microwave, and it burst into flame.
It turned out that the wicker handle contained a metal wire, which charred the whole thing from the inside out, and set off the smoke alarm, so that I had to beat the alarm with the handle of a broom to knock the battery out.
And that was the same day my sister discovered we did not have enough oranges for orange juice, so she basically scraped out the entire inside of an orange and dumped it into a glass.
And also that was Mother's Day. And my mom was freaked out by the "lumpy" orange juice and instinctively spat it out, and was not happy about me setting the teapot on fire.
So she never let us cook Mother's Day breakfast again.
