Maybe I should stop using my Free Youtube to MP3 conversion program to steal free music.

Well, you can listen to music on Youtube for free, but not own it, but you can also steal it and keep it on your computer or mp3 player! So it never cost money in the first place, but you are still stealing it off the youtube website, for the sake of future convenience.

Actually, to get my current job as a video editor, I stole my own trailers and short films off of Youtube and burned them to a DVD because I couldn't find my original mini-DV's. Hooray theft.
Edit: Usually though there is no point to stealing video from Youtube. There's not a lot I need to watch that I can't go to Youtube for. Some people might upload episodes or whatever, but the quality is never good enough. Audio quality on music is usually fine though, and you can find some pretty rare stuff. I got myself a nice copy of The Byrd's doing a cover of The Times They Are a Changin last night. Plus you can get a lot of good live stuff from video of various concerts or television show performances, some that might have been released on a CD to begin with.

But the audio on YouTube is so badly compressed, why would anyone want to steal that?

most people can't hear the difference, or don't want to shell out enough money for speakers that will even play the difference?

The audio compression usually isn't that bad. Audio files aren't that large to begin with. For most of the songs I've taken from Youtube, I can't notice a distinction in quality. I once uploaded a Daniel Johnston song to Youtube and I can't tell a difference between that version and the version I actually own. If the source audio is poor to begin with though, then the youtube conversion and the download you steal will also be pretty poor, but if we're talking about audio that somebody uploaded from a CD or something, in most cases it's going to be alright. Especially for blasting from car speakers on the highway.
