And I ABSOLUTELY loved seeing Johann Kraus brought to life! I think movie Hellboy most resembles his comic counterpart. After that it's Johann, though.

I was actually attracted to him in the first as well. Some of his comments in the movie remind me of the way they have him behave in that abe_kroenen comic on livejournal! (e.g. "I love these tight, little leather straps!") I know both Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola are fans of it, so I wonder if that was intentional.

When child aged Hellboy was shown, I was kinda "WT*." But they do show him in the comics at times (and it's always in such silly contexts,) and I have no idea how else they would make him look. So I'm alright with it. It kinda seems like from that point on you're just gonna have to go with it.

Okay, that little story telling sequence with all the creatures? LOVE.

I can't smile without you . . . roflmao. Yeah. Ha ha ha. Crazy. Definitely a "just go with it" aspect. But amusing, hee hee.

Okay, all those Prince and Princess and King colors and designs were incredible.

God, I loved the interpretation of Johann. I mean, part of me was all "HEY HE NEVER MET HELLBOY! HEY HE WAS NEVER IN ANY LEADERSHIP POSITION! HEY HEY HEY!" But most of me was like, "OMG, PERFECT ACCENT! "HAND GESTURES" INDEED! YAY FOR INCLUDING THE DEFLATION!!!!!"

Loved him strutting off while singing.

Tooth fairies? Cute. Angel of Death? Fan****ingtastic.

I wonder about some things though. Like . . . That abe_kroenen comic has been around for three years. There was this four year gap between HBI and HBII . . . Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola have both mentioned enjoying the comics . . . Is it possible they influenced some things in the movie? I mean, serious. Statements such as, "Oh, I love these tight, little straps!" SO fits right into the abe_kroenen comics. And having Abe digging Johann? Man, abe_kroenen is already having a heyday with that. (Btw, I'm so excited the new movie has been cause for Liz figurines cuz now they can have a regular female character, ha ha.)

So, yeah. Prince Nuada . . . Hot? I dunno, I'm a sucker for the clothing style and design. But it's nice to have a bad guy who's got stuff deeper going on than "evil." Of course, that was a little underdeveloped and may have been too cheesy if developed too far? It's like he's very appreciate-able for his honorable intentions/strong values, etc but overplaying it wouldn't have worked . . . I guess I just kinda think that showing more of him would have made him a bigger deal? But, seriously . . . It was already 2 hours long, heh. I guess there just isn't time. (Though I think you could do without the baby scene, ha. [speaking of babies . . . I want a cute, talking tumor!])

Princess Nuala? Dumb b****. I think they should have been knocking her unconscious. Like, just keep doing that while they try and figure out how to deal with the situation. Or when her brother is going to stab HB, she could have just, you know, hamstringed herself-- Okay, it's probably easier to kill yourself than that. But like . . . Stabbed herself in the hand? Oh well, IF YOU'RE THAT DUMB YOU DESERVE TO DIE.

I dunno. I guess there was some little untidy things to the story such as that. Like, they didn't think through their possibilities realistically, I think? And then like Abe really suddenly developing feelings for her was a bit much.

Liz was awesome though. Manning very joke-ified. George Sr can pull that off, but it did kinda feel like the actual members of the BPRD were there for jokes and humor, you know? Like, all the dark and seriousness was unrelated to Mike Mignola's creations.


. . . But I'm a big fan of just letting Guillermo del Toro go crazy with everything, heh.

I just read a little excerpt of an interview where he was mentioned worries that the Troll market scene would be too SW Tatooine Cantina-y . . . But some parts of that seemed to hit me as Tim Burton more than anything, heh.

I think overall for these movies . . . Hellboy is most true to comic character (though not quite always.) Second after that Raputin and Ilsa are tied (maybe bruttenholm is in there too.) Then there's a big gap, followed by Johann. Then a gap. Then liz. Then a gap. Then Abe (who reminds me of C-3PO, especially in this one.)
