Well, since you're my fiancee, I feel obligated to go see this movie with you. Popcorn on me.

Every movie I've seen over the past year has been seen alone.

Three out of five movies I see are alone. I don't bother with DVDs at all, and I don't watch television, but I love the cinema.

I don't see anything inherently wrong with going to the movies alone, but for me the whole point of going out to a movie is going with other people. I mean, if I want to see a movie enough to brave the common annoyances of a movie theater I can usually find at least one friend or family member who wants to go with me. If not, I'm usually ok with waiting for the DVD and just watching it on my television at home.
Alone.
Yeah...

I just got back from seeing it. Not bad.
Though I never saw the first one, so I had nothing to compare it to. I enjoyed it, though!

The first one was fun. But I think it didn't really pull you completely into the world of Hellboy.
Actually, I'm not sure Hellboy 2 will do that either- I mean, it seems like it will certainly bring you more into a universe for the movie . . . But it looks like there's a lot of Guillermo del Toro's hand in that world. Which is fine by me too. You just still gotta check out the comics to get into more of Mignola's world? I mean, those are the impressions I'm getting from the previews and the website.
. . . Also that HBII gets more Abe. That's good. And the new BPRD member . . .
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So excited! And I've been working extra Mon-Thurs so I only gotta do six hours of work today! And one of those hours is paid lunch.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand I picked up BPRD's first issue of The Warning last night. Not enough Abe but still exciting.
What a fabulous day before I even get to The Golden Army!

I am also taking myself on a date to see this today. And I took myself out to see WALL-E earlier in the week. I do this a lot, not because I really want to go alone, but because I have no one to go with usually!

Visually, it looks amazing. I loved Pan's Labyrinth.

I missed the private screening last night.
But a friend of mine who went emailed me this review.
Hellboy movies are an acquired taste. If you liked the first movie, then
part 2 will do it for you.
If you go in expecting a serious movie like The Dark Knight, you won't get
it here. Hellboy 2 is very light in tone when it comes to the quirky
characters.
The visual effects were pretty impressive. And the creature/costume/set
design were all very well done. The movie in many spots looks beautiful.
And for a movie that costs 75 million dollars to produce, it makes the end
result even more impressive. Indy 4 cost 180 million and it doesn't have
the same feel. Iron Man and Hancock both cost 150 million and you watch
Hellboy and wonder why other movies cost so much to make.
He really let loose with his imagination. And if you like Pan's Labyrinth,
you will also enjoy this movie. It was old school like The Dark Crystal. A
fantasy movie really.
My favorite monsters from the film were the tooth fairies and the death god
towards the end.
My only complaint was that the movie felt more like a middle part of a
trilogy. So there was more story about Hellboy's relationship with Liz and
Abe's loneliness. It was still good, and the action is good. But I felt
like the middle part needed that one really good action sequence. But the
end sequence sort of makes up for it, even though the ending is slightly
predictable.
But it's a well made movie. Jeffrey Tambor does his George Sr. routine from
Arrested Development again. And it works. But the stand out is Seth
McFarlane (the creator of Family Guy) who is in the movie as an agent made
up entirely of gas. He's pretty funny.
I liked it. You guys should check it out before THE BIGGEST MOVIE OF THE
YEAR is released next week.

Should we put spoiler alerts on this thread?
Alot of details are being given away.
But I liked it. I am definitely buying this movie on DVD
It's like the best parts of Men In Black,Lord of the Rings,Farscape,
a Hong Kong wire work actioner, and a Tim Burton movie all rolled into one.
Hellkid was a little unsettling at first but he grew on ya,you could see how he would grow in the
the BPRD's greatest asset someday, and it was good to See John Hurt back in the movie too.
And in line with the theme of this thread I went to the midnight showing by myself.
It's kind of a buzz-kill to take someone along when you have to explain everything
to them while trying to watch the movie too.

Lol, I know . . . I watched a little interview of the actor already, discussing his three roles in the film (while in make-up. Man, he's got impressive levels of patience!) SPOILERIFFIC LINK OF AWESOME
My friend is seeing it a couple hours before me and he's teasing that he'll spoil it for me . . . But really, I've been keeping up with the movie a fair amount (Like, pretty good for a lazy stalker?) I don't really think he can ruin anything for me? Dunno. Not really passionate about surprises or twists or anything. Mostly I'm excited to see all the awesome character design and effects, heh. And my favorite open-faced BPRD member, who is not as cool as Abe (of course movie!abe is not as cool as cool as comic!abe, so this character may have more movie awesomeness than the movie version of Abe, who knows.)
Yippee! I'm off with 6.5 more hours till mine starts! Meeting someone for some chocolatey indulgence at a little dessert shop a few blocks away a couple hours before my show starts even.
*giddy for the movie*
