NEW UPDATE!! Ouch, too much interference last night on the GBT. Only one team got some useable data. We haven't located the source as of yet.

Jedi Washington: Both the teachers and the students only got one try. We had other time for more drift scans after the high school students were in bed. If the kids find anything else during the school year that merit follow up, they may request time, but unless they pay their own way, they will probably have a PhD astronomer do the observation and send back the data, but if it is a discovery, the student gets credit for the discovery and/or confirmation, just like a real scientists. Hopefully they won't be miffted as Jocelyn Bell was! I am hoping to have more students join me and April in the search this school year. We will train any high school students who want to take part. Students doing work during the year will get to present a paper at West Virginia University come May about their results.

VoijaRisa: Can I recommend WVU? We worked with Duncan Lorimer and Maura McLaughlin this summer and they are heading up our Pulsar Collaboratory. You can go to WVU Physics Department to learn more about the program at WVU and the link to the Collaboratory above hasa picture of Duncan and Maura. They have two adorable little kids!
