TRG fact: Ernie Hudson auditioned to return to the Ghostbusters franchise and voice the cartoon Winston.
He lost the role to Arsenio Hall.
Which sucks.

Its going to be a good fall for Ghostbusters fans. Not only do we get this extravagent set along with the anticipated Video Game but it will be accompanied with the BluRay of the movies and TokyoPop Manga as well. AND there is still that announcement that is supposed to be made this coming weekend at comicon.
The only thing I find odd is that all this takes places 6-8 months before the film's 25th Anniversary.

The movie has been on DVD for 9 years now. This is the animated series (and its connected spinoff series) that followed the first movie.
All we need now is Extreme Ghostbusters.

According to SlimerShadow, a very in-the-know individual on all things GB:
SlimerShadow posted: At Comic-Con, Sony will announce the upcoming 2009 theatrical releases of Special Editions of both Ghostbusters films. According to one source, "2009 will be the 25th anniversary of the original film as well as the 20th anniversary of Ghostbusters II, so it seemed like the perfect time to finally greenlight this project, which has been in development ever since the spectacular success of the 'Star Wars' Special Editions over a decade ago."
This new release will see nearly all of the 80s-era model and optical effects replaced with state-of-the-art computer animation produced by Industrial Light and Magic. Slimer, the Terror Dogs, even the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man will be definitively re-realized in glorious CGI. The Ghostbusters' firehouse base is now 30 stories high, and when they slide down the fire pole audiences will get to see them zooming by every single floor.
The changes aren't merely cosmetic, however. To attract a more modern audience, the original Ray Parker Jr. song 'Ghostbusters' will be replaced in both films by a new composition by the Academy Award-winning group Three-Six Mafia. Tentatively titled 'Let's Bust (Some Ghosts)'. Expect to hear this sure-to-be-a-hit single on Top-40 radio stations around the country in the months leading up to the films' re-release.
But the change most certain to earn the love of Ghostbusters fans the world over involves Slimer, the green ghost who in the animated series becomes the team's beloved sidekick and mascot. In the original film, Slimer isn't named (the production team simply referred to him as the 'Onionhead Ghost'), and his appearance is both grotesque and threatening. In Ghostbusters: Special Edition, Slimer has been altered to more closely resemble his kid-friendly counterpart from the cartoon. As my source puts it, "In the original movie, Slimer ate junk food, drank wine, and burped. Now he drinks soda instead of wine, and instead of burping, he farts. The animators at ILM spent a month and a half studying the physics of that goo from Wal-Mart that makes fart noises when you squish it in order to get the animation just perfect. Kids are going to love it!"
In keeping with the green spud's new kid-friendly attitude, Sony and ILM have also made a small but strong change to Slimer's first scene in Ghostbusters. As originally filmed, and aggressive Slimer flies into Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), covering him with Ecto Plasm. Being inappropriate for such a lovable character, the scene has been digitally altered. I don't know the details of how the effect is being pulled off or what exactly happens, but my source sums it up in three words: "Venkman slimes first."
