Okay, here I am at (drum roll please) the last minute trying to do my taxes.
What have I learned so far? That I should be punished for doing my part for the economy by buying a house in the immediate post 9/11 era.
Well isn't that nice?
These filthy scumbags are lower than dirt... and I don't want to hear any 'Hey, they're just doing their job' crap out of any of you.
So are the people who play musac or do Saddam's bidding.
Why does it have to be so complicated?
Because that's the conspiracy. They make it so ridiculously complicated that they can screw anyone they want out of money with impunity.
I also don't want to hear 'I don't have any problem with mine' Good for you, shut up.

I honestly can't remember the last time I posted anything serious on here. I feel Kiki-Gonn's pain, though I didn't have to pay as much extra this time as last.

Don't you get a tax break for buying your house? You can deduct your property taxes, your interest paid and such. Is it more difficult now because of the added paperwork?
You should at least get money back.

We only bought the house in the last qtr of the year so the breaks didn't add up to as much as our standard deduction BUT we get punished for the extra 'income' of cashing in assets for the house buy

You should have bought an electric car and/or gotten really fat and deducted the expenses associated with your weight loss efforts.
And/or have Arthur Anderson do your accounting. They have a lovely tax shelter in the Caymans I'm sure they'd love to show you.

My total State and Federal return came to that amount. E-filing is the way to go. You get it fast.
