If you had to pick between one of the two, who would you choose?

Pacino, I'll pick him just on Scent of a Woman. But Scarface, Godfather Trilogy, Serpico, and Any Given Sunday are awesome. He is the man.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of Deniro, but if I had to pick.

Al Pacino, HOOWAH!
But I think overall De Niro is a more versatile actor.

HOOWAH, right on man.
Lt. Col. Frank Slade is the best character. I will be so bold as to say one of the best characters in a movie during the 90's.

De niro, raging bull, godfather 2, taxi driver, goodfellas, casino. Pacino godfather1,2,3, scarface, scent of a woman, dog day after noon. All amazing movie so close too call, i love all godfather movie so you would think I'd go with pacino but since i like more of de niro,s work and i think he is more versatille, De Niro get,s my vote

Depends on the movie.
No one could ever rival Pacino's performance in Devil's Advocate. But as a rule, I like De Niro's characters better. Pacino can play Satan well. IMO, he sucks at playing the good guy, though.
De Niro can be that lovable good/bad guy type.

This choosement you offer is a very tough one - for both Pacino and De Niro are wonderful actors; natural characters. Pacino's Michael Corleone neared perfectionism - so did his work in Scarface. Yet De Niro, closing to sheer and utter brilliance as the mentally confused Boxer in the Raging Bull; was just as beautiful with his acting in Casino.
As a conclusion, I have to say that my Brain is not able to separate the greatness of these two actors; and for that reason, I remain undecided.

I'd pick De Niro as the better actor, but they're both great at what they do.

Anyone notice in Heat that you never see their faces in the same shot?
