Well I wanna hear what you guys have to say about this, personally I say the egg, and here's my reason...a chicken had to evolve from some pre-chicken ancestor, so a chicken would come from an egg laid by a pre-chicken ancestor, so I say the egg is first...
What do you think?

For your theory to hold up, the eggs parents must be very different from their hatchling progeny. You must be able to partition chicken and non-chicken at this exact offspring event.
Given that evolution is so gradual, the parents of said chicken will basically be the same as the chicken.
Hence it isnt the case that the egg had to come first.

Ah ha,
They would be extremely similar to a chicken but not exactly...

But not sodifferent that you could define that offspring event as giving rise ot what we know as the chicken.
To us, the parents would look, act, taste, everything exactly like a chicken would.

but by definition there has to be a line, where something at some point you begin calling a chicken, at that line is where it begins...

I know the definitive answer.
Before the egg, there was a different kind of chicken.

No, Lara. There is noline.
Evolution is gradual.
Do you think there is a definitive line that seperates man from our ape-like ancestor?
It all happens over many many years. We have no specific point at which we can say "This is a man, anything before was not"

If trying to look at this subject from a scientifical view-point, we are facing an impossible mission. Yet it is obvious that Chicken indeed evolved - via the selection by Nature ( based upon the environment, et cetera ), or breeding by Humans - from a life-form that existed.
Due to the theory Dagsy offered, we could assume that the chicken, as existing before the egg, is a possibility - yet the Egg, giving birth to the first Chicken ( as we know the species ), had to be first.

Depends as said:
By God: chicken
By evolution: egg
Of course we could all stop complainning and have a egg sandwitch and a chicken whopper but that'd be too easy right?

AS, my point is that there is no 'first chicken'. Its all so gradual that you would never be able to say 'this egg gave the first chicken'
As such, there are chickens, there are eggs.
But neither was first.

I believe in Creation, so I say the chicken.
Which came first: the Chicken McNugget or the Egg McMuffin?

Dinosaur before either the chicken or the chicken's egg.

What Hama said...
And that question has been bothering me for years...
What came first, the Chicken McNugget, or the Egg McMuffin?
EDIT: But then what came first? The Dinosaur or the Egg?
