I have to agree with Herman, The History Channel rocks.

I love history, it has always been my favorite subject in school (Social Studies, Geography [what I have now]). And at home I research on Encarta from time to time. I should watch The History Channel too, i've never considered it.

I went to colonial Williamsburg, Virginia today with a friend for a sightseeing tour. Williamsburg was founded in 1607 and during the time of the Revolutionary War it was the richest city in the Virginia colony.

I currently live in Richmond, VA which was the capital of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Williamsburg is only a 30 minute drive Northeast of Richmond.

I have also toured the battlefield at Petersburg National Battlefield, 20 miles south of Richmond. Petersburg was the final battle General Robert E. Lee lost before surrendering at Appomattox Court House, which is only another 15 miles away. The Civil War ended there.

Other historical things about Virginia...
-birthplace of Washington himself
-birthplace of author Edgar Allan Poe
-also birthplace of former presidents and founding father's James Madison and James Monroe
-The church where Patrick Henry gave his famous "Give me liberty or give me death" speech is in downtown Richmond, still preserved.

If you're looking for history, move to Virginia. There's so much for a history buff to take in it's almost too much. wink

I love History! I get on my teacher's nerves because I tend to answer sometimes without being called on. Is the History Channel really that cool? I may need to check it out.

My teachers say things like: "Does anyone except Paul know the answer?" "I know you know Paul." and most of all, "If I'm sick Paul could teach the class."...

I am indeed a history buff.

I just hate the parts at the end of history textbooks where they essentially say "We don't know how things will turn out, but here's some books people have read..."

History kicks ass!

If I had to describe my specialist sub-field of history, I'd say it's the titanic struggle between Fascism and Communism 1917-1945. I love all that stuff(the study of it you understand). The Russian Revolution, the collapse of Weimar, The Spanish Civil War, Barbarossa, Stalingrad, the Fall of Berlin. Can't get enough of it.

Nevermind the Hitler Channel - I wanna see the Stalin channel. There's not enough mentioned about the USSR, and this annoys me, since it was in the East that Nazi Germany was really defeated. To easily in the West we chose to cover that one up.
