Canker sores...

I have the most painful canker sore in the world..I can't eat, drink or sleep. It feels like I have a massive head wound in my mouth....does anybody know a good remedy?
The worst part is that I can't eat anything spicy..my favorite thing in the world...

well, for the pain, swish with warm salt water... that will help kill the bacteria for now, and prevent it from getting worse..
how is your health normally? have you been eating well lately? do you take a multivitamin? do you take extra vitamin C? do you smoke?

Lets see...I eat too much fatty food, I drink alot of beer but I don't smoke...
and I hate fruit.

Sounds like a good time to go to your drug store and pick up Vick's Chloroseptic Spray. It comes in different flavors and you spray it on the sore and/or throat area (for sore throats) and it numbs it.
If you want a home remedy, try this: get a paper cup and pour in about 1/2 a teaspoon of salt into it. Then add about 1/2 a teaspoon of water. Mix together with a Q-Tip, get a chunk of the mixture on the tip and rub on the sore. It'll sting for a minute, but it cures the infection and lessens the pain for the next day. After a minute or two of letting the mixture kill bacteria, swish warm salty water and spit. Hope this helps.

well, you don't have to like fruit in order to get the vitamins your body needs
fatty food is bad...
this is my opinion..
from the sound of it, you don't eat well if you eat too much fatty food - that's why you should take a multivitamin...
if you don't have the right nutrients in your body, your health deteriorates, as a result, your immune system becomes weakend - when your immune system is weak you are susceptible to illness (obviously)...
you need to boost your vitamin C intake, considerably (since you eat fatty foods), you should also try to get a vitamin B complex (100,preferably) and drink lots of water to help flush toxins (from fatty foods) out of your system..
also, you can get over-the-counter medication for the canker sore pain...
also, if you like it, eat yogurt with acidophilus as often as you can!

I get these all the time. One thing I found that helps is an overt the counter medicine called Campho-phenique. It's mainly for cold sores, but I found it works on canker sores just as well. One thing that sucks about it though, it taste kind of nasty when your saliva mixes with the medicine.

Hey, K_P, this really works?? My dad always tells me to do this when I have a canker sore, but I never do it because I thought he was making it up. I have one on my lip now and it hurts.

Hey, K_P, this really works?? My dad always tells me to do this when I have a canker sore, but I never do it because I thought he was making it up. I have one on my lip now and it hurts.
it works wonderfully!! trust me... i have been giving people advice for all sorts of discomforts for years.. remember, i have managed a health food store, and natural/home remedies are one of my fields of experitise (along with birthin' babies  )
it sounds painful, but it really, truly helps!
and, btw, it's best to use either iodized sea salt, or a earth mined salt sold by the name "Real Salt". it has a reddish tint, but that's only because it has more minerals than sea salt..

A vitamin supplement called LYSINE helps to keep them from recurring. Once you have one though it takes about 14 days to get rid of it. For help with the pain ORAJEL/CANKAID/ORABASE works quite well. ORABASE is my personal fave as it creates a temporary "bandage" over the sore. It's a gelatine based substance containing lidocaine and tannic acid. Good luck!!
