I talked to some girl the other day at the mall ( yes I talked to a girl ) and she asked me if I liked it and I didn't even know what it was until she told me. No I don't really like it.

Ska is sort of a cousin of Jamaican reggae. It's usually uptempo, and features upbeats played on guitar, and usually a horn section. Ska was born in the 1950s, but has been picked up by a number of punk bands in the 80s and 90s, including No Doubt, Reel Big Fish, and Sublime.
Examples of ska songs include:
Date Rape by Sublime
Sell Out by Reel Big FIsh
Spiderwebs by No Doubt
Super Rad by Aquabats
Guns of Navarone by The Specials

That is one of my favorite songs by them!! They do an amazing concert...

Ska started out good, and then the market exploded on it and it became trendy and watered-down. You can thank MTV for that.

Oh yeah, Five Iron Frenzy is GREAT! And you're right about the Supertones in concert. I saw them open for Audio A, which ruled. Tony, the bassist, nearly fell off of the stage onto me.
I love songs like Adonai and Little Man.
EDIT: And I agree with Sturm's analysis that the watered-down MTV-style ska sucked. But the classic stuff from the Specials and the Skatellites still sounds just as good. Besides, there are still small indie bands puting out great ska music. Check out Yeska or the Pie-Tasters. That stuff isn't watered down at all.
