I don't think you quite get the general principles involved here. Bread is better than a remote or any other harder substance because you need the absorbancy. It's not just about cleaning off. There's a reason why we use paper.

Yes, tortillas I believe would work better then a slice of bread.
Now, if we are talking about absorbing.
Have you ever seen how much grease a tortilla can absorb? Those things can get very greasy without falling apart.
Bread on the other hand though. Get it wet, and you can push you finger through it with no resistance at all.
Which one would you want to use?

I still have to disagree with Amazing. Absorbtion is really only needed in the case of liquid.
Otherwise, for the most part, it is a solid, and can be wiped/scooped away.

You could use almost anything that you wanted to. However, books and remotes are not particularly effective as they are not soft enough to conform to the necessary shape nor do they possess the necessary absorbancy.
