RE: Matrix: Reloaded, Revolutions and Animatrix (spoilers for Reloaded only)
Gee, it's the morning after. Dare I now collect my thoughts and write about the mess known as "Matrix: Reloaded". Hmmmm...let's try!
JUST IN CASE: SPOILERS, LOTS OF SPOILERS!!!!!
So, what the plot here? Well, apparently the Chosen One has died, but is now ressurected and will wreak the apocalypse upon....oh wait, wrong story! In this one, Christ...I mean,
Neo
(played ironically by Keanu Reeves who potrayed Buddha in another movie
) has died and resurrected into "The One", a being with awesome kung-fu powers, cool clothes (complete with shades) and the ability to do the "Superman thing" as someone calls it (oh, and it looks like he can dream of the future too!). As we saw in the last movie, he promised to lead the humans into salvation from the evil that is "The Matrix", thus we come to this movie...
The machines are apparently angry at this turn of events, and they have sent those metallic squid things to borrow into Zion, the last human city, which pretty much looked like any other dark, dirty, apocalyptic city in any other sci-fi about a dark, dirty apocalyptic future. And thus we get our first yaaaaawn here. Look, it's a "Council". Wow, that's creative. Look, it's a past lover of Morpheus...should I care? Look, Neo and Trinity are sucking faces....wow...and look, the dance!
One particularly hillarious scene is Morpheus (Laurence Fisbourne) giving a speech. Hah, anyone who has seen "The Greatest Story Ever Told" will be instantly reminded of Charlton Heston's John the Baptist
I got major laughs for that one. And then...the dance...and the sex....yaaaawn. Oh, and while the love dialogue is not as bad as the PT, it's still corny in places.
The only bright spot of the boring first half hour or so is the new character, Link. I love this guy. I'm glad they took the time to flesh him out a little, give us some insight onto a new guy who isn't as "kewl" as Neo and his gang, but is very human and does his part the best he can. And hey, he gets to say "He's doing his Superman thing!", a line that made the whole cinema laughed!
Ah, but when I make glowing comments about a supporting character, this is an indication that I found the main characters lacking. Keanu Reeves doesn't have that "Whoa!" charm that he had in the first Matrix movie. Here, he just punches, kicks, and plays Superman. Should I feel worried about him? Nope, he's a demi-god! Not for once did I think "Oh no, they're gonna get Neo". Even in the movie, Neo's friends most of the time said "Neo can take care of himself". A hero who is too perfect does not interest me.
Carrie Ann Moss as Trinity. Now, why should I care about her? Please, the "teaser" at the beginning was not only too long, but it didn't made me worry at the least. Trinity's only saving grace was being jealous when Neo had to kiss some other girl for info. Other than that, she's an excuse for more fightscenes, FX, blah blah blah. Gotta say though, that Moss is a perfect match for Reeves: those two have the same "acting styles"
Morpheus Morpheus Morpheus....you did a good Heston impersonation, but what else is good? Pseudo-Zen sprouting every 5 minutes....yaawn. Fight fight fight...ummm no, still boring. Morpheus using
katana
....ah, now we're getting somewhere! Awesome stuff when he sliced up that vehicle! Nice, very nice!
So much for the main characters, I don't like them at all. They seem to be mere pawns set up for the next fight scenes...and gee, let's see, there are quite a lot of them. Let's check out the one that is the most hyped: Neo vs thousands of Agent Smiths (all played by Hugo Weaving and his look-alikes and some CGI). Yes, he's back, and he's still calling Neo "Misterrrr Anderrrson!" The fight here is so cartoony, it makes Yoda vs. Dooku look like a work of art. And it was too freaking long, and what do we get in the end? Nothing, nothing!!! Sigh.....
What about the much praised highway chase? Well, it's not bad. I'm damn impressed by the ambitions of the directors. Cars crashing, explosions, guns and fists here and there...but somehow, it lacks the charm of that lobby gunfight or the Neo vs Smith fight in the first movie. In that one, I still felt the heroes might still be in danger. In this one, Morpheus and Trinity pretty much have risen into the status of demi-gods, so why should I worry about them? The whole thing would have been better if there was better music...ah, the music...
Whoever the hell who did the music, I nominate him to do the music for the next Marvel movie
Music as mediocre as this deserves to be only in Marvel movies. It's bland, it's uninspiring, it sounds as if the composer just cut and pasted techno music and mixed it with some orchetra/choir/whatever.
"Matrix: Reloaded" isn't a totally bad movie. It's mostly just mediocre and doesn't hold a candle compared to the first movie. It lacks it's predecessor's charm, and the human angle is lost in the gallery of demi-god heroes and characters like the twin ghosts who have a gazillion wacky powers (used mostly as excuse for more FX!). If there is a reason to watch, go watch at least to see Agent Smith and the Oracle. Weaving is still fun to watch as the rogue agent, despite the cartoonish fightscene. And the late Gloria Foster was very charismatic as the Oracle, whose absence in the next one will be missed by me
And that's it for me. I care not for the twists and turns, and as I said, I counted only ten people (including myself) who actually stayed to watch the trailer for "Revolutions". Meh, looks like a repeat of this one, but then "Reloaded" for the most part was a repeat fo the first one only with bigger budget. The only thing that will persuade me to see the next one is to see what happens to Agent Smith, and to hear him say that classic line...
"Misterrrr Anderrrson!"

Best Special Effects part for ME was the following:
1-The 2 big rigs head on crash with NEO saving Morpheus and the Keymaker.
2-Neo shooting out the building like superman on acid and then flying faster then ever and catching Trinity before she could crash lands on a car.
3-The WHOLE freaking "Burly Brawl!"

Okay, with all this speculation on saying perhaps that the "real world" is just another layer of the "matrix", then what is the actual real world like? Perhaps it is controlled by humans and its like a human plot who wanted power and was able to lock all humans into the matrix and come up with hundreds of fail-safe systems for it? Really makes you think, "what is the
real
world then?"

I loved the explanations that all of the myths, Vampires, Ghosts, Demons, etc. were all earlier versions of the Agents.
Sweet.

Yeah, the whole "Neo can control stuff in the real world" now leads to speculation that the real world isn't real, which will lead to questions that the real world is another Matrix, which...will ensure another sequel is needed. Bravo!

RE: Matrix: Reloaded, Revolutions and Animatrix (spoilers for Reloaded only)
That still doesn't explain why Neo has to fight, and why he can't just go about waylaying people with his mind. We learned in the first movie that there is literally nothing that Neo cannot do while inside the Matrix. Morpheus says it, in his initial description of what the Matrix is. He claims that The One has the ability to bend and shape the Matrix around him. Obviously, seeing as how he can affect the bullets, he can affect things within it. At it's core, a person would be no different than a bullet, just more complex. But for someone like Neo, who walks around the Matrix viewing it in it's encoded form, why should this be so difficult? He resurrected Trinity, pulled a bullet from her heart with his mind, but he can't fling an agent around with it? It just doesn't make sense to me.
I'm sorry, but you, like Harry Knowles, just don't get it.
1. You're assuming that what Morpheus says matters. This movie proves that his prophecy was just another tool for the Matrix. There's no real basis for saying that Neo can do "anything" in the Matrix. He's limited by his humanity and willpower. If he musters the will, sure, anything.
2. You're not thinking. Why would Neo want to devour another Agent? First of all, he'd be killing a human. He doesn't need to do this. Almost everything he does in this movie is defensive.
Also, one of the first things he learns in this movie is that him devouring Smith led to Smith returning with more powers. Why would Neo be anything but hesitant about using his powers in the future?
3. Most of Neo's fights are just delaying while his friends escape or try and capture the Keymaster.

First off, I went in with the notion that it was going to be bad. Although I disagree with the direction the Watchowski Bros took, I have to say that this movie was
phenomenal
.
Anyways, I was under the impression that the emp from the other ship (that arrived right after Neo collapsed) disabled the centinals?
