Season 8 looks like it might actually be pretty good. Taking the show in a totally new direction for once. A strange plot involving a missing Clark and Lex, a new mystery woman coming to Smallville to search for old Lex, introducing the final steps of Clark's transformation to Superman, a Legion of Superheroes episode written by Geoff Johns himself, and best of all, no Kara.

Yeah, I'm pumped. But I can't quite remember everything that happened iat the end of Season 7. There was that ridiculous traveler plot that ended with Lex finding the Fortress of Solitude and about to kill Clark. Then there was Chloe getting arrested because Lex is a jerk. But wasn't there also one or two other plots going on? I can't quite remember. I'm going to have to rewatch the season finale.

A few things happened:
- Jimmy proposed to Chloe
- Chloe having been fired from the Daily Planet took over the Isis foundation and has been working with Ollie's JL (who are supposed to be back this season, with Oliver becoming a regular again)
- Brainiac appears to have been destroyed
- Kara is trapped in the Phantom Zone (according to Kryptonsite.com she is expected to return to wrap up her lingering storyline)
- There were warnings of something terrible coming leading up to the end of the season (that could be referencing Lex controling Clark but who knows)
- Clark and Lois have been growing closer
- Lana has taken off and won't be a regular on the show anymore (though she is supposed to return and provide complications for Lois and Clark's budding romance)

Thats all I can think of for now.

Okay, I remember everything but the whole "something terrible is coming." Could you specify on what that was?

Okay, forget that it doesn't matter.

What DOES matter is that I just watched the season premiere. And it was AWESOME! It's so great that after such a horrendous seventh season that I thought the show would never recover from, Smallivlle is back on top!

Even though it's only been one episode, I can already tell that season 8 is on it's way to solving what has always been Smallville's problem: Progress. Compared to my other favorite operatic teen-adventure WB/UPN/CW shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Roswell, and Veronica Mars, the characters of Smallville have always kind of been stuck in one place, spinning their wheels in the mud.

I mean, for crying out loud, how many times did Clark and Lana break up, get back together, break up again, get back together again, etc, etc, before she finally learned his secret? Seriously, that happened about four seasons too late! Clark's also kind of been sulking for eight straight seasons, not ever really deciding to get out there and make a difference. That was what Oliver was always criticizing about him in season 6. Now, he's finally leaving the barn, getting a job as a reporter, and working with Oliver and the others. Looks like, before too long, he's gonna be suiting up in blue spandex.

Season 8 will probably end up being the last season of Smallville, but it also has the potential to be the BEST! Which is ironic, since it immediately follows the worst.

BTW, as much as I love the show, and this episode, let's be serious here. I don't care if his job is in the basement. There's no way a 21 year old with no journalistic experience outside the high school newspaper, and no college education, can get a job as a writer for the biggest newspaper in the world! I don't care if it is in the basement.

They were unspecific and typically vague. It could have referenced the potential of Lex controlling the Traveler but given the lackluster results of that I doubt that's it. Honestly I don't know. I am hoping that they are trying to build a big conclusion to the series...a catastrophic event that forces Clark to fully embrace his destiny.

As for the premiere I can't say I was terribly impressed. It certainly wasn't terrible but I guess I was just expecting more. Tess is going to have a hard time filling the shoes of Lex who had the benefit each season of having a past history with the other characters. I find it difficult to feel threatened by someone I am told is bad but seems like just another obsessed Lex fangirl. Hopefully the paramedic will be a more formidable challenge.

As for Chloe's new supercomputer powers...anyone else thinking some part of Brainiac has survived in her (why else flashback to that moment in the show's teaser)?

And the JL just isn't the same for me without Bart and Victor.

Yes because Smallville JLA = Comic Continuity JLA...oh wait...

I was referring to their personalities since Canary is bitter eye candy and AC has the personality of corrugated cardboard.

Awesome, that Justice League is on this show!!!

I LOVE the JL action though! Unfortunately, Aquaman and Black Canary aren't even Regular casts.

But two MAJOR issues with this plot

1) That's it? Bring Clark to the Sun and he will get his Powers Back? LAME!

2) How did Clark got the job at DP working next to Lois Lane? Did Green Arrow help him out on the job?

His powers have for a long time been solar based. Generally if he is weakened or needs to heal he will fly up or be brought up to the upper atmosphere and recharge. They were trying to heal his dying body before it was too late and clearly that didn't just heal his wounds but recharged his Kryptonian physiology completely returning his previous talents to full strength.

Well, sorry but the whole story for that is VERY weak/Anti-climax... Can't the writers do better?

You should look Smallville up in the dictionary. "Smallville. SMALL-ville. 1. Quick, rushed climaxes tying an entire episode together in a matter of seconds. 2. Long denouments that last almost longer than the conflict itself.
