I see people speculating that Walt will be able to explain it away. Not this time.

This whole episode was a waste of an hour until the end. My wife called it a throw away episode and I agree.

I loved the episode. It wasn't a throwaway at all. Among the pivotal moments

    -the Godfatheresque prison shanking montage
-the globalization project and near-murder of Lydia
-the Jesse-Walt meetup in which Walt pays up and Jesse thinks Walt has come to kill him.
    -the Skyler-Walt money pile confrontation
-the big moment at the end - the best reveal of the series so far.

the only "filler" was the money-making montage, but that was needed to set the stage for the cash pile confrontation. It looks like a pretty big profit for three months of work though.

And this was my main problem with that episode. Walt, the man who argued over every penny with Mike, who understood in detail all the cost/profit issues concerning the production side of the operation, stopped keeping track of the money?

I've read people explaining how this is just the first step to Hank figuring things out, that he still hasn't come to the end conclusion. I don't know how that can be said when Gale's initials are stenciled into the page! You definitely get the Usual Suspects vibe at the end, what with the great callback to "Bullet Points". This was one of Breaking Bad's best episodes, every major character besides Saul getting a chance to shine in this brilliant close to an unfairly maligned section of Season 5.

Even if Hank has it all figured out he still is going to have to deal with building a case to bring him down. He's not going to walk out of the bathroom and try and slap the cuffs on him. The only evidence he has right now is a book with a similar inscription.

Oh yeah, he can't just take Walt to jail, but Hank Schrader knows that Walter White is connected to Gale Boetticher, and Hank is no idiot, it will take him no time at all to figure out that Walt is Heisenberg. I expect to see the first few episodes back show Hank having to keep up a guise of ignorance around Walter, which will be great suspense.

Surprised it took Vince Gilligan this long to make use of Crystal Blue Persuasion.

There's a lot that's going to factor in... for starters, is he going to have to charge Skyler as an accomplice? I imagine so, the whole gambling thing and car wash. It seems unavoidable.

I managed to watch the first 1/2 of the first episode and had no interest in watching any further. People keep telling me how wonderful it is. I nod politely. And walk away.

Exactly. This is an incredibly volatile can of worms and needs to be treated very carefully.

My brother in law and I watched the mid season finale. He hasn't watched the show in years. The next day, he started watching the first four episodes.

Couldn't stand the characters--they were all sphincters or entitled whiners except the main character, who was just a useless drip--and didn't care what happened to any of them. Got bored. And after the fiasco of DS9, yeah, if you don't have me interested within half an hour, I'm not going to bother going any further. Movies get 10-15 minutes.
