Naughty Dog's latest is out today! Just picked up my copy and will be cracking it open later tonight.

The Gamestop pre-order was pretty awesome, it came with the soundtrack, a dynamic theme, unique PSN avatars, and a bunch of in-game boosts.

There's also a Season Pass on PSN for $20 that gets you in-game boosts, 3 DLC packs (including Naughty Dog's first ever single player DLC) and a 90-minute documentary.

I'm surprised there wasn't a thread for this before today! I'll be picking up my pre-order after work today. Totally looking forward to it!

Yeah I'm glad there's a thread. I playtested this whole game about a week before it went gold, and wow. I've been dying to be able to talk to people about it. So hurry up and play :p

Seriously, I wouldn't say it's the best game ever (or even necessarily my favorite... I think that's still Uncharted 3, though this is up there). However, it might have the best story of any game I've ever played. The only game that comes close in the serious tone and cinematic quality of its story is probably Heavy Rain. But this story is better overall.

Might not get around to playing it until next week but I'm stoked.

How does the story compare to The Walking Dead game? That's my favorite game story (so far!). And I'm glad to hear the Heavy Rain comparisons. That's the game I originally bought my PS3 for.

Not liking the Heavy Rain comparisons. I got about an hour into that game before throwing my controller down in disgust and frustration.

Been playing through a few hours of it so far. Its... definitely different from the Uncharted games. As the trailers and demos showed, you can't just gun your way through encounters anymore (no more hundreds of bullets you typically find in most shooters). The game has a good learning curve, and just now getting into the main story.

Aside from that, the graphics are excellent, the detail, the scale, but this is no surprise after what Naughty Dog demonstrated they could do with Uncharted 2 and 3. The controls are also pretty good and the writing so far is quite good too. Although I expect the later stretches to be much harder based on the trailers.

Got it, played it, completed it. The Last of Us has left me thoroughly entertained. I wasn't the biggest fan of the Uncharted series but I thought this one was worth all the hype surrounding it. It's quite astonishing how a game that chews through zombie movie cliches managed to feel so fresh and intense all the way through. I'm probably going to go through on a New Game + soon, I enjoyed it that much.

A couple of nitpicks though. The friendly AI could do with a bit of tweaking. There's nothing as immersion breaking as watching Ellie pelt her way full speed into a Clicker only to have it stand there as if nothing happened. And the multiplayer is just so dull. I played a couple of rounds after completing the single player and I just gave up on it. It brings down what is an otherwise brilliant game.

That was an amazing game! Naughty Dog have really outdone themselves this time. As well as the story being fantastic, the gameplay is some of the most intense I've ever played.

27 hours, it took me, so if you're looking for every optional area and every conversation, you're not in for a short ride.

If anyone is on the fence about buying this game, just do it. This is a game that shouldn't be missed by any PS3 owner.

I heard nothing but praise about Heavy Rain. What was wrong with it?

This is the game Resident Evil should have evolved into.

One of my top three games of this generation no doubt. Probably going to be one of my favorite games of all time.

Playing through this at the moment, I couldn't wait until after I'd passed my exam before playing it. [face_blush]

I don't know if this criticism is fair, however I have found so far that everything I need in terms of supplies can be picked up quite conveniently. I am, admittedly, not too far in (looking for Bill), playing on Normal, and I have only found myself near clickers without a shiv once...

I used a bottle to lure the two to the same spot before introducing them to my good friend Molotov...

I love having optional routes... yes the game steers your progress, but the buildings don't necessarily have the one entrance, reconnaissance is an absolute must. The game is so beautiful that it's hardly a chore, either...

To echo Chewgumma, it would be handy to be able to push your companions out of the way too, I have fallen off a plank thanks to companions not moving out the way...

For sure. There were times where I had flashbacks to RE4 and escorting Ashley, except that Ellie is...you know, competent.

I remember when I first played RE4. I'd heard from a friend how frustrating it was to have to escort her. I didn't get it at first; it seemed pretty simple. Then I got to the Castle and Ashley somehow managed to make Rebecca Chambers and Sherry Birkin useful by comparison..

Loved this game, the characters are great, I was really rooting for Joel and Ellie.
And boy, what about that ending? It drove me nuts for a couple of days.
    Naughty Dog outdid thenselves again.

Yeah, the ending was pretty well done. It's designed to be morally questionable, and would only hold up if they made Ellie a likable character that you cared about over the course of the game.

It solidifies for me that Joel ain't no good guy. He ain't no hero. He's a survivor, and he will look after Ellie. Much better than the generic cure-the-infection ending we could have received.

This game is just so damn intense. I just got through the subway station, swore I was gonna be attacked by infected. I can only play it for so long, I get kind of worked up doing it.

Agreed. It's probably my new favorite game for the ps3.

The thing about the ending is that, in the heat of the moment, you think just like Joel: You just want to save Ellie and get the hell out of there with her. You don't stop too much to think if that was the right thing to do or not, you just go for it because you care for her. And then... you start to see that it was a mistake, that you were being egocentric, just like Joel. And you're right 07jonesj, he's no hero, he was very brutal to save Ellie, killing the fireflies, the doctor and Marlene. So far you've been rooting for him, but now in the end you're not so sure anymore. It dosn't help that he lies to Ellie in the end.
So, like you said, morally questionable. But it's hard to accept that ending, because you're found of both characters.
For a game to bring all this questioning and feelings in a person, hell, that's an awesome game.

This game is worth buying a PS3 for.

    Amazon's Gold Box deal today is a 320gig PS3 w/ Uncharted 3 and 30 days of Plus for $250.

Excellent game. Probably some of the best storytelling I have seen in a game. And the gameplay was none too shabby. Although clickers did annoy me quite alot. No way to fight them in melee without stealth. But then next minute you see Ellie holding one off on her own. *being moany about being repeatedly insta-killed by clickers*
