Oh man, no, they can't do this, Westworld is such a well-respected sac-

Interesting...I always liked the gritty, old-fashioned feel of the original. It was downright eerie in parts I thought. Not sure I'd enjoy a more modern take on it, but you never know.

With J.J. you know there will be a lot of mysteries and with Johnathan Nolan working on the Dark Knight I think he can bring the grit to the story.

P.S. Has John Nolan worked on anything without his brother before becuase I would like to see it.

I'm not so sure about this...you can't beat Brynner, and the last attempt to readapt a classic Crichton movie (Andromeda Strain) didn't turn out too well. I suppose it could be interesting, but I'm not sure what this gains by being a series. It wasn't adapted from a novel so there isn't any material missing.

Rather than be just a negative nancy though, this got me thinking though, since there's been a lot of movies based on Crichton novels (or actually made by Crichton himself) how does everyone rank their list of favorite Crichton adaptations? I'll work on my list and post it in a bit.

My favorite Crichton adaptations are Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg's genre masterpiece, The Great Train Robbery, which is a great heist movie, and Sphere, excellent psychological thriller.

No Michael Crichton wrote a novel under that title and then adapted it and directed the film himself.

I'm a huge fan of The 13th Warrior (John McTiernan's film adaptation of Eater's of the Dead, which Critchton himself actually did re-shoots for). I know I'm in the minority there.

Anyway, Westworld the TV series? I'm just not sure there's enough there to carry a series (one that will presumably run 10 episodes per, for "X" number of seasons?), not to mention; do I really want to re-visit that world week after week? But there's too much talent behind the camera to dismiss it, and I'm anxious to see what they have in store.

Best Crichton adaptation that I've seen: Jurassic Park.

Worst Crichton adaptation that I've seen: The Lost World. They started working on it before the novel was published.

Awesome Crichton novel turned into a So-Silly-It's-Good adaptation: Congo. Ernie Hudson channeling Clark Gable? AWESOME.

Crichton novel I didn't read but couldn't stand the movie: Sphere. God that was torture.

Yeah. It starred Sean Connery, who makes everything better, and Donald Sutherland. If you like caper movies or heist flicks, you should check it out. I would also highly recommend the novel. It's a fun read.

Holy crap, I misread that as "Waterworld Reboot" and nearly panicked.
Carry on, nothing to see here.

So I'm having trouble ordering them, but Jurassic Park is up there, but not quite at the top for me. I have to give a lot of credit to Mike Hodges' adaptation of The Terminal Man, the original Andromeda Strain, and The Great Train Robbery. Way at the bottom are The Lost World and Rising Sun. What a clunker of a movie.

Anybody up on the other three Crichton directed? Coma, Looker, and Runaway?

The film version of Timeline is by far the worst adaptation. It's bad in an MST3K sort of way.

As usual, I go against the grain on this one. I think The 13th Warrior is a classic, Jurassic Park is overrated and that Timeline is a decent time-waster (No pun intended).

I remember for years Arnold Schwarzenegger was tied to a Westworld reboot movie.

I loved the movie of Westworld as a kid, and I still rate it today. I'm not sure what I think of them remaking it.

If it were, say, a two or three-part mini-series to develop how the robots went crazy, I could see it working. Trying to turn it into a whole series (presumably one last more than one season) doesn't sound too promising, though. They'd need to pad out the story way too much, probably by throwing the whole "Futureworld" thing into the mix.
