Is this produced by Columbia/Sony or did the rights revert back?

Rights reverted back earlier in 2013, maybe even 2012, if I recall correctly. Joe Carnahan (Smokin' Aces, The Grey, The A-Team) pitched a darker Daredevil movie set in the '70s and heavily inspired by Frank Miller's run, but nothing came of it.

I'm looking forward to the day when Marvel takes over the cartoon department of The New Yorker.

If a Defenders show happens, it'll get cancelled.

The Defenders will be a miniseries, so it can't be cancelled if it's made- it'll just conclude and have any threads continue in the related Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage shows if they go past 1 season. And they're all part of the same Netflix package so they're all being made.

Worth noting that Drew Goddard will be the showrunner for Daredevil and will write and direct the pilot. He's worked on Buffy, Angel, Lost, and Alias in the past and also co-wrote and directed Cabin in the Woods. I'm very excited for this series!

See, Daredevil and Punisher are two heroes who work better in a TV format than they do in a film. Same way Arrow's been a great series for DC. So yes, count me as excited for this one. Just hope there's some TMNT crossover.

wtf is the Defenders and what's the practical difference between them and the Avengers? I look at the overly-long wiki page and there's a comic cover prominently featuring Hulk.

Defenders was Dr Strange, Hulk, Namor, Hulk and others. They tended to fight supernatural threats.

I'm excited for this, I've never read the comics but I always liked the idea of Daredevil.
Netflix has done really well with their original series' so far, so I have hope they will continue do so with this.

You should be demoted until you read at least one Frank Miller DD story.

The TV version of Defenders will not resemble their comic counterparts- on the surface it looks like they've repurposed the team name in place of Heroes For Hire (as Defenders sounds closer to Avengers and would be more marketable).

This version will basically be the street-level heroes.

Namor is Aquaman if Aquaman was badass and king of Atlantis. He's basically the first mutant, IIRC. One of the more powerful and influential characters in Marvel.

Luke Cage is not related to Johnny Cage.

It's certainly on my list of things to read, I've only recently gotten into comics. (The comics themselves, I've always liked other mediums inspired by comics.) DD interests me a lot.

And is tied up to the Fantastic Four movie rights so we likely we'll never see him in any form in the MCU.

dont movie rights, like, lapse and ****? seems like half the time they make a new one of these movies its becuase "the movie rights were gonna lapse" and it was cheaper to make the movie than to not make it

Yes they do, but Fox is doing a reboot of the Fantastic Four in order to keep their claim on the movie rights going.

I wonder who they will cast to replace Batfleck as Daredevil?
