I think we need a reverse-Turing Test. I've come to think half of you are bots at this point.

I've often thought beezel was one of the early prototypes.

I'm not convinced some of those posters could pass the 30% agreement bar.

... Also, seriously, the bar is 30%?

Yeah, I thought that 30% was weird. But apparently it comes from his article in Mind: http://loebner.net/Prizef/TuringArticle.html

    Specifically this part:

Note the following line ("The original question, "Can machines think?" I believe to be too meaningless to deserve discussion.") -- the media coverage over the recent news story seems to have overlooked that part....

They're also burying the fact that this program has been around for 13 years so, y'know, media coverage.

    Anyway Chinese room 4lyfe. :p

A 13 year old from the Ukraine...kind of cheating a little but still pretty cool.

I'm not surprised people are posting this garbage, but it is in fact wholly bogus. That is, the Turing Test applies to an AI and not a chatbot. Also, Kevin Warwick.

I wouldn't say mad, more like not surprised they're still trying to spout this crap. I wonder what those scientists' reactions will be when they die and see God.

Do we have to go through the warp drive argument again?

All the JCers with any physics background (and others, too) explained to you why it doesn't work, and you still think you're right. What a joke.

Yes, empirical evidence is so overrated. Better to trust an ancient book of fables of questionable origins.

Vivec, jesus, shut up. We all know you study physics and understand it, ok? But given I've no ****ing qualifications in it either, I can clearly see Warp Drives are not only plausible, but consistent with the laws of physics that I actually don't understand as I understand them.

You think just because you underwent years of study in a field that you know more about it than me, and that's really offensive.

Now, if we can get back to discussing how warp drives might facilitate time travel?

VadersLaMent, I'd really like to know why you are so obsessed with needing warp drives to be real.

Rapid interstellar travel is the holy grail of spaceflight. If the Alcubierre-White drive works, and NASA seems to think that it will, then it will hand us the stars on a platter.

By NASA you mean a couple of scientists at NASA.

Also, Alcubierre himself thinks it's pretty much impossible. https://twitter.com/malcubierre/status/362011821277839360

Actually you are far more obessessed over it. And Alcubierre's original has been modified to...and this is the phrase you keep having trouble with and skip over...something slightly less implausable. But you'll keep forgetting that.

Hell, I just liked the picture they did. And if it inspires people to study physics or advocate for space exploration, where's the harm?

Agreed. There's a big difference between being a realist and being a defeatist. A prototype interstellar starship of any type is a very long way off. I don't think anyone has any illusions about that, but the potential benefits of warp physics over other advanced propulsion concepts are such that IMHO, the effort is worth it because it may pay huge dividends over the long term.
