Amph [wtf am I watching] Penny Dreadful

Has anyone else been watching this? I just got caught up and I can't tell if this show is horrible or awesome. The first 2 episodes were mehhhhh then it just got kind of good but good in the way where it's pretty godawful but you think something really cool is about to happen.

....anyone...? *crickets*

 

I just heard about the ghost sex or possessed sex or whatever. That's all Jezebel told me.

I've been told I should watch it. I'm going to wait and binge watch it all in one go.

 

I nearly cried for Proteus at the end of the second episode.

It's bretty gud.

 

Saw the first two episodes and it's right up my alley. I'm really hoping it starts getting way worse because then I will love it forever.

 

I started the first episode and got distracted, but decided to set a season pass anyway and now they're all building up on my TiVo.

 

It's exactly what penny dreadfuls were, cheap exploitation of violence, horror, and sex.

It's very entertaining at times. I've watched it from the beginning, it's still building, but the fifth episode (and most recent, no?) was the best by far.

But I'll watch pretty much anything with Eva Green, she's amazing. She can be sexy, creepy, smart, conniving, innocent, crazy, weird, sweet, horrifying, tragic, endearing, sympathetic, unsympathetic, etc. She can do it all, and she's pretty much all of the above in that fifth episode.

 

I really loved her possession performance. She just went all out in that one. She really did a great job in this previous week's episode.

 

The backstory in the latest episode was just shockingly devastating. No really, I was shocked. Again, again, and again. What a total train wreck, very tragic, very sympathetic.

The mystery of the backstory wasn't really all that compelling as a mystery, I'm glad they got on with it. I think it was needed to give me a reason to care about any of this crap that's going on, because I really didn't give one **** about saving Timothy Dalton's daughter. I still don't, but I actually care about Eva Green and Timothy Dalton outside of just them being really entertaining and getting involved in freaky ****. Hopefully they get on with the plot to save Mina and don't drag it out too long.

The entire episode was incredible, it's one of the best origin stories I've ever seen.

 

I just caught the last 35 minutes of the 1st episode. That was really good. Vampires, Jack The Ripper, Frankenstein all in one go? I might do a marathon.

 

I caught up on the sixth and seventh episodes. They were alright....but they need to move it along, I can only watch a catatonic Eva Green for so long, this is three episodes in row.

 

This week's the final episode so it'll be interesting to see whether all this has been leading up to something impressive or not

 

hey hey...not sure if anyone remembers me. Long time user here. lol. I have been a big fan of Eva Green since Casino Royale came out. What CT- said about her. Thats what I love about Eva. She is that awesome. I love her. lol hehe. I can't wait to see the season finale...its going to be good and I hope it is.

 

There are 2 books by author Lilith Saintcrow where one of the leads is the lead sorceress/lawkeeper in Victorian/steampunkish London. Eva Green's character reminds me of this.

Timothy Dalton is cool in this.

I like the whole feel of this show. The 1890's in fiction are a magical time period. It's like old world superstitions clashing with what will become the modern world.

 

Wow, what a fantastic finale. Incredible. Such development, really brought everything together. It's the kind of finale that makes an entire season, it makes it all worth it. Remember my previous complaint? **** it, I was wrong.

They wrapped up quite a few things, revealed some pleasant surprises, added new things to look forward to for next season, assuming there is one.

If I had to describe this show with one word, it would definitely be shocking.

It's the best season finale I've seen since Spartacus.

This scene with Dorian Gray and his prostitute had approx teh same tragic music as from the film Excalibur when Guinevere and Lancelot betray Arthur.

 

It has been renewed for another season. Sadly, we gotta wait ten months for season two. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the DVD...I WANT IT!!!!

 

Personally I'm looking forward to dorian grey's mental breakdown. Hopefully it's apocalyptic
