Classics The Holiday Special - General Discussion

Mostly, I celebrated Life Day by enjoying "Empire Day" (which was a boat-load of fun!).

Oh, and I changed my avatar when I first signed-on today, in celebration of the occasion (I figure that one's good through Thanksgiving, and then I'll look for something suitably Christmas-y).

 

I celebrated Life Day by not thinking about Life Day

Empire magazine (UK movie mag) did quite a detailed article on the Holiday Special a few years back. I vaguely recall it had some insight into the pre-production, the TV execs meetings etc. I'll see if I can find a link to it...

 

It's tragic that a Holiday special about Life day, being so bad that i wanted to take mine.

Jar Jar was not that bad IMO.

 

Jar Jar is okay sometimes. In AOTC and ROTS I thought he was okay. The Holiday Special should not have been made imo.
A Jar Jar movie would probably be better.

I wonder is Disney will ever make a Star Wars Holiday special, I think it can be done if done right.

 

No one needs to ever attempt to make another Star Wars Holiday Special.

 

They have already and it was bad.

 

I never heard of Disney making a Star wars Holiday special. I just the know of the one from the 70's. *shudder*

They could have a holiday parody special with singing Count Dooku lol.

 

I might be able to get ahold of some LSD before Christmas. If so...I am DEFINITELY watching the Holiday Special.

 

I would rather a remake of the Holiday special than a remastered version, mainly due to the amount of filler there is. However, I wouldn't mind a remastered Holiday special.

 

JJ Abrams just re-canonized the Holiday Special at the 1 minute mark. That is a thing.

I'm assuming Abrams was joking about The Holiday Special, but as someone who has never watched it all the way through, is there actually anything in the HS that contradicts current canon? Honestly, I wouldn't mind if The Holiday Special, along with Ewoks (movies & TV series), Droids and the Clone Wars micro series were brought into canon, just so it might give LFL a good reason to make high quality DVD's available. Some of us really do want to be able to own the complete history of Star Wars from both the big and small screen. Disney has done this kind of thing before with their Disney Treasures DVD series, collecting all their classic cartoons, some of their older live action TV series, 1920's & 30's rarities and more. If Disney felt there was a need to release the complete Adventures of Spin and Marty in a special collectors tin, I don't see why they couldn't do something for classic Star Wars TV.

 

Yes and yes...even though I cannot stomach the Holiday special, unless I assume it's deliberate dadaism.

Dave and "the story group" have the power to do whatever they want, unless Disney says otherswise, I believe.
