The US is fortunate to have two sets of attackers who work well together. One set is not close to 100%, Morgan and Wambach. The other is on fire, Press and Leroux.

I'd bring Wambach off the bench or fade her back to a CAM role to brutalize opposing centerbacks, but she didn't look capable of being the centerpiece of an attack against the Aussies. Morgan can be, but I wouldn't risk it in this group stage, especially if we beat Sweden. Put the youngsters at the top - they apparently flourished in the warm-up games, and then you have Rapinoe and Holliday roaming the wings from midfield in support.

Once Morgan is healthy, either go 4-3-3 or bring Press back to a support role.

Ideally, Morgan really is healthy and can start and go 90 on the knockout stages. At that point, using Wambach as a late game sub if you need a goal to try to get a set piece headed home is a perfect role.

Somewhere, Beckham is nodding in approval of Mjelde's free kick...

Hoping for a big USA win tonight, mainly to get Pia to shut up.

Pia's quotes actually weren't bad imo. The NY Times, much like ESPN, seems to just be trying to stir up controversy. Equalizer has a good article with her full statements

After watching her side get dry humped up and down the field for 90 minutes by Nigeria, I'd say Pia has better ways to fill her time than commenting on former players and who should start, etc.

Missed penalty by Japanese ref. Press was getting slung down.

I mean you are so right. I expect so much more.

Weird how it's the exact reverse of the men's team.

Speaking of keepers, England's will be our downfall.

So following in the grand tradition of the men, the English women will lose in PKs?

Columbia taking down France was fantastic, though this may completely screw up my bracket now.

As for the US vs Sweden game, JJ was player of the match in my opinion while Kling came up big (all 5'2" of her) when it mattered. Our defense looked pretty solid overall, but our attack is so weak. Nothing's connecting.

Final round of the group stages this week.

Be surprised if England make it to the second round, tbh. Can see us having a disaster against Columbia.

Wish France and Germany are on the opposite side of the bracket
