This is an update based on new information from MakingStarWars.net regarding some Rey moments with Han and in a bar. Han, you shouldn't take your kids to a bar! Terrible father.

Also note that the clean synopsis for the film, which MSW has posted on their site, will be updated at the end of each of these chronologies.

A Chronology of the Force Awakens Based on Credible Rumors and Official Information

NOTE: Official information seems to confirm that what looks to be “The Empire” in this film is called “The First Order” and what looks to be “The Rebel Alliance/ New Republic” is now “The Resistance.”
NOTE 2: A clean synopsis of the film, as we know it from rumors and official information, has been added to the end of this chronology. For the purposes of readability, the synopsis includes some of my own interpretations of scenes.

Space: Opening Crawl

• Unknown. Likely something about 30 years having passed since the battle of Endor. There is also official confirmation that a major battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire occurred a year after Endor, over the desert planet Jakku, and this leads to a desert planet littered with destroyed ships, etc, and full of scavengers. Not clear this will be in the crawl.

Desert Planet Jakku: Opening Sequence

• Exterior Night-Space/Savannah - A lightsaber tumbles through space, crashes towards the ground.
• Exterior Day-Savannah - Lightsaber lands – dawn into day – a strange hand appears (seemingly picking up the lightsaber).
• Exterior Night- Outskirts of Village – A droid, BB-8, is troubled by something coming and hurries off.
• Exterior Night – The Village - BB-8 pushes towards the vicarage.
• Interior-Night – The Village Vicarage – The Vicar (likely Max Von Sydow) hands over the lightsaber. Poe Dameron [Resistance pilot] is grateful, BB-8 rolls in. (speculation: there is a rumor that The Vicar is a former Imperial Moff whose Star Destroyer crashed in the “Battle of Jakku” after the Battle of Endor, was never rescued, started a settlement on the planet, and became anti-Empire).
• Exterior Night – The Village Vicarage - Poe sees First Order Transports approach. Vicar tells Poe to go.
• Exterior Night – Village - Poe and BB-8 rush through the village as residents prepare for battle.
• Exterior Night – Rise near village/X-wing (blue) - Poe gets his ride ready, BB-8 too. Poe sends message (likely to the resistance, possibly to Leia/ her emissary, though not confirmed).
• INT NIGHT FIRST ORDER TROOP LANDER - Stormtroopers wait in cramped silence, Finn is out of sync.

• Exterior – Night – Village – First Order Transports land; Stormtroopers get into disagreement with villagers.
• Interior – Night Village - Stormtrooper Transport - Finn and Stormtroopers leave the transport under fire.

• Exterior – Night The Village - Finn’s buddy is not well. He leaves a mark on Finn. (Note concept art depicts the mark as blood from a wound–the friend touches Finn’s helmeted face, leaving three blood marks on it.)
• Exterior – Night Rise Near near village/X-wing - Poe sends message, sees another First Order trooper arrive.
• Exterior – Night – The Village - A huge First Order shuttle lands beside the Stormtrooper transports.
• Exterior – Night – The Village - Vicar watches Flamethrower Stormtroopers. Finn spares a villager. Kylo Ren arrives.
• Exterior – Night Village/X-wing - Poe watches Kylo Ren’s arrival from a distance.
• Exterior – Night The Village Vicarage - Kylo Ren confronts the Vicar.
• Exterior – Night The Village/X-wing - Poe watches the confrontation and BB-8 wants to get moving.
• Exterior – Night - The Village Vicarage - Kylo Ren is out of patience, says “goodbye” to the Vicar.

• Exterior – Night – Rise Near Village/X-wing - Poe sees sudden end, hides lightsaber in BB-8. They go their separate ways.

• Exterior – Night – Outskirts of the Village - BB-8 watches as Stormtroopers destroy Poe’s ride (backlot) – with flamethrowers

• Interior Night Star Destroyer Hanger Bay - Poe enters the Hanger Bay, dazed. Finn exits his transport.
• Interior Night First Order Troop Transport - Finn takes off his helmet (with his friend’s blood on it), and vomits. Superior wants to see him.

Desert Planet Jakku: Meeting Rey

• Rey is introduced scavenging the innards of a huge Star Destroyer that has crashed on the planet’s surface

• Rey grabs her salvage and heads out
• EXT DAY STAR DESTROYER – GARBAGE CHUTE – DUNES - Rey slides down dune, climbs onto her speeder

• In a rather evocative shot, she rides her speeder into the setting sun.

Desert Planet Jakku/Space: Escaping the Star Destroyer

• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Frightening (Torture/Interrogation?) Room: Kylo Ren chats with Poe, confident he will get what he wants.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Kylo Ren reveals to The General (Domhnall Gleeson) that he is looking for a speciifc droid.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hallway - A Stormtrooper leads Poe down a corridor.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hanger Bay - Finn dressed as a Stormtrooper leads Poe back to the Hanger Bay, they head for the TIE Fighter.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Finn and Poe squeeze into a TIE Fighter and start it up.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Balcony Hangar Bay - The Colonel sees Finn and Poe leaving the Star Destroyer without authorization.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hallways - Stormtroopers rush toward the Hanger Bay pushing a weapons container.
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hanger Bay - TIE Fighter rips cables away as it rises.
• Interior Night TIE Fighter - Finn and Poe flying, they start up the guns!
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hanger Bay - Chaos in the hanger as the TIE Fighter lets rip!

• Interior Night TIE Fighter - Finn keeps firing as they exit the building!
• Interior Night Star Destroyer – Balcony over Hanger Bay - Windows blow out on the balcony!
• CG Exterior Night Star Destroyer – In the darkness the TIE Fighter exits the Star Destroyer at great speed.
• Interior Night Tie Fighter – They introduce themselves. Finn has a cunning idea.
• Poe and Finn escape in a TIE Fighter - They don’t get very far. They crash because the TIE is hit by blasts from the Star Destroyer.
• Poe is unconscious at the controls.
• Finn has to get out.
• It appears he ejects.
• Finn observes the TIE disappear over the horizon of the desert planet’s dunes.
• After a brief moment we see an explosion.
• Near Wrecked TIE: Quicksand effect around Finn
• Near Wrecked TIE: Finn passes out.
• Near Wrecked TIE: Finn wakes.

• EXT Day, Near Wrecked TIE: Finn searches for the TIE.
• EXT Day, Near Wrecked TIE: He can’t get in.
• EXT Day, Near Wrecked TIE: In sand pit, Finn puts on some of Poe’s clothes and walks alone.
• EXT Day, Near Salvage Station: Finn is walking through the desert after putting on Poe's clothes (likely only his jacket, after ditching his stormtrooper stuff).
• EXT Day, Near Salvage Station: A vehicle rushes by and spits dust/sand in Finn's face
• EXT Day, Near Salvage Station: This passing vehicle helps Finn figure out which direction to walk to get to the salvage station
• EXT Day, Near Salvage Station: Finn keeps walking, gets exhausted, and sees a distant town ahead
• Cut to Data Center Inside Star Destroyer: Kylo Ren is looking into Finn's history.
• First Order General (likely Gleeson) suggests a focus to Kylo (speculation: focus on either finding Finn, or finding the lightsaber, one or the other). Likely that the General and Captain Phasma [Gwendoline Christie] view Finn’s hologram somewhere around here, as per a rumored description of footage.

Desert Planet Jakku: Rey meets Finn

• Rey eats dinner alone in her home (a converted wrecked AT-AT).
• BB-8 needs rescuing and Rey answers his call for help.
• Rey and BB-8 head for Salvage Station.

• EXT DAY SALVAGE STATION - Rey arrives at the Salvage Station. Unloads her heavy stuff.

• She tries to sell BB-8 to a trader, but when the deal falls through after some haggling she reluctantly decides to keep him.
• Finn staggers into a cantina, it seems, gets a drink, and sees Rey and BB-8 dealing with bullies. It seems (speculation) that Finn may try to help her (Speculation: The trader/ bullies may alert Stormtroopers to wanted droid).
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Rey thinks Finn is not to be trusted.
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Finn is trying to win her over (that seems to be his skill), and then Stormtroopers begin firing on them.
• When the Stormtroopers attack, Rey and Finn are thrown together to survive the ordeal.
• Rey, Finn, and BB-8 run/roll from explosions caused by attacking TIE Fighters.

 

Desert Planet Jakku/Land and Space: Escaping with the Millennium Falcon

• Finn and Rey steal the Millennium Falcon from a spaceport/ salvage station. The bullies and the trader try to stop them from getting away.
• TIEs are in hot pursuit of the Falcon as it rockets away.
• The Falcon is chased by TIE Fighters and we apparently move by some familiar landmarks (from THIS film, not previous ones)
• Rey and BB-8 pilot the ship. Finn gets on the Falcon’s turret.
• There’s a lot of banter between the two and to an extent they don’t seem to really know what they’re doing.
• As TIEs shoot at the Falcon, Rey has to ask Finn if he plans on “answering back.”
• EXT DAY CRASHED STAR DESTROYER – DUNES (IMAX) Aerial plates - Millennium Falcon banks hard, upside down and swoops.

• To save their skins, Rey pilots them into the insides of the giant crashed Star Destroyer she was scavenging from during her introduction sequence.

• The Falcon and the TIEs “slalom” around debris and the insides of the downed ship, eventually losing their pursuers.

• Finn gets those guns working and fires on the TIE Fighters in pursuit.
• Cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room,” talking to himself (or a burned Darth Vader helmet) on a Star Destroyer.

• Kylo Ren may talk about the saber and/or his true plans at this point (speculation)
• Cut back to Rey and Finn
• Finn compliments Rey (probably on her fast flying) and Rey figures out that Finn is lying about what he appears to be
• Falcon rockets into space

Giant Freighter/ Space: Kids Meet Han and Chewie

• Falcon ends up being swallowed by a huge freighter in space
• Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.
• Han, at some point here, says “Chewie, we’re home

• Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them.
• He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
• Something happens with the chessboard and they hear a noise
• Han checks the video screen.
• A gang is there!
• Han explains the cargo on the freighter (creature(s) without description), and they presumably load the Falcon with the cargo.
• Han hides the kids in the cargo storage on the Falcon.

• The gang are divided into two groups codenamed “Mods” and “Rockers” on set.
• The mods and rockers enter the ship.
• The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
• It’s a good distraction.
• The cargo is released.
• Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
• Hell breaks loose.
• Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
• Finn aids a wounded Chewbacca, which helps earn Han’s (and perhaps Rey’s) trust in him
• Rey fights off the gang by herself.
• Falcon has issues.
• Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
• Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.
• Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds.
• While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet. He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope.
• As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Maz Kanata's Castle: Visions of the Past

• After they leave the freighter in the Falcon, BB-8 shows the blue lightsaber (looks to be the lightsaber Luke lost in Bespin), and Han decides to fly to a jungle planet
• Finn asks who they are seeing and Han says “her,” which is “Maz Kanata.”
• INT DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Rey gets emotional at seeing so much green [Chewie is in back hurt]
• Once the Falcon touches down, Rey marvels at the vista near the landing site. Concept art depicts the Falcon setting down on a wooden dock on the water outside the stronghold. There are ships and freighters landed outside the castle, above the water in the concepts.
• While Chewie is still on the ship shutting her down with Finn, Han talks to Rey in private and he passes on one of, if not his most personal gun to her for protection in Maz’s stronghold. This is where Rey gets her DL-44, the gun Han Solo made famous.
• They go to “Maz Kanata’s pub.”
• Rey gets into a bar fight.
• Finn is little help in dealing with the rapscallions. Finn does try and stick up for Rey though.
• However, Chewbacca helps sort out the problem, as it turns out a Wookiee at your side is a little better than an ex-Stormtrooper for bar-fights.
• A short time after this encounter, Rey enjoys a few drinks, and gets tipsy on the pirate ale. It sounds like a good time! While tipsy, Rey thanks Finn for sticking up for her in the strife. Finn’s attempt at chivalry doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated by Rey.
• At some point, they are led to meet Maz Kanata. Maz Kanata is an alien who appears to be both a pirate leader, and someone with force powers of some kind. In particular, she seems capable of sharing visions of the past.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub – There is a secret underground chamber and Maz Kanata begins her tale to Han, Rey, and Finn. They hold hands.
• Flashback: Interior Night at Academy – Dead bodies are on the ground. Luke turns up.
• Flashback: Exterior Dusk at the Academy – It is noted it is peaceful now. Artoo-Detoo is saddened as his master departs.

• Flashback: Exterior Day at the Savannah – A hand that takes the sword at the start of the film is revealed to be Naka’s hand.
• Flashback: Exterior on the Savannah – A peasant’s hovel where the peasant drops the sword, starts a fire, panics and then returns.
• Flashback: Exterior Desert – Local trader is seen leaving (presumably then cuts to Finn and Rey’s faces as the story unfolds).
• Flashback: Exterior Day Desert – Local trader makes a sale to a wealthy man (may be the individual referred to as “Fat Cat” by the production).
• Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.
• Flashback: Exterior Night: the last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey!
• Flashback: THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking “the object.”
• Apparently what Maz Kanata says is pretty heavy to Han, Rey and Finn.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the underground chamber, Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber and Rey is revolted by it while Finn is attracted to it.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Maz Kanata now knows why the saber “came to her (Rey).” Rey doesn’t like this and flees the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Rey moves past aliens in an uproar as she leaves the establishment.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Courtyard: Rey runs away from the castle.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: Rey runs into the woods.
• Leia appears to send an emissary to Maz Kanata’s planet (rumored to be named Kor Sella). She has 3-4 scenes at most.
• It appears the emissary is on a secret mission of her own.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: BB-8 finds Rey but suddenly the villains are overhead.
• “Uber” is in communication with Kylo Ren and the “The General.” “Uber” orders “The Catapult” weapon to be used against Han Solo, Rose, and the rest of the heroes.
• Uber tells Kylo “don’t get sentimental.” This is allegedly due to Kylo’s reluctance to fire the superweapon at the Castle and Pub.
• The weapon is fired, killing Kor Sella, taking out a “castle,” “the tunnel of love,” and the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the corridors underneath the pub they notice Rey and BB-8 are missing as massive shaking begins.
• EXTERIOR DAY Maz Kanata’s PUB Finn wants to go after Rey. Han upset. Maz Kanata explains why.
• Exterior Maz Kanata’s Pub Plate Shot: From Rey’s point of view we see the destruction of the Castle.
• Exterior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s Point of view we see Maz Kanata’s pub is chaotic.
• Exterior Day Woods Near Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s perspective we see Maz Kanata’s Pub ruined.
• Rey is spotted by First Order forces very quickly. Kylo Ren and his troops (who are on their way to survey the damage from the weapon) pursue Rey and capture her.
• Finn witnesses the capture from afar but can’t save her.
• BB-8 hides and evades capture too and the heroes meet up with Leia, the droids, and head for the Resistance base without Rey.
• Leia’s emissary is at Maz Kanata’s Pub when the First Order’s new “Catapult” weapon levels the pub and the castle next to it.
• The emissary is killed by this.
• INTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE – MAP ROOM Leia and staff react to Tunnel of Love unhappy ending
• The Resistance witnesses Kor Sella’s death and springs into action. This is where we believe we will see Admiral Ackbar, very old, in a new, slightly green outfit. He is part of Leia’s “staff.”
• Kylo Ren arrives with Stormtroopers in tow.
• Note: This pertains to: “Interior Day: Maz Kanata’s Pub hallways beneath the pub, Maz Kanata “uses her special skills” to defeat Stormtroopers.
• A fight seems to break out between First Order and Resistance forces in the wooded area outside the Castle and Pub.
• A “black TIE” arrives and seems to “make all the difference” in driving away the First Order troops (this may or may not be flown by Poe Dameron, and may end up being a black X-wing).
• The death of Leia’s emissary’s compels Leia (with See-Threepio in tow) to arrive at Maz Kanata’s planet.
• Han Solo and Leia meet for the first time in the film. It is described as “awkward.”

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Resistance Base: Preparing for Final Conflict

• Leia appears to be a prominent leader of the Resistance (described as “Queen” on the main cast list).
• Finn and Poe meet again
• Leia wants to know what Finn knows (presumably about the First Order’s secret weapon).
• In the Map Room of the Resistance Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.
• Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
• Leia is proud of this weapon.
• Maz Kanata hands the blue lightsaber (clearly the saber Luke lost in Bespin) to Leia

• Maz Kanata tells Leia she thinks the sword found inside BB-8 should be with Finn
• Leia and Han still argue.
• The last thing Han says to Leia before he leaves for the final mission is “I’ll hurry back.”
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) Leia gives Finn the lightsaber. Han promises to hurry back to Leia.
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) wide shot as Millennium Falcon takes off on the mission.

The Snow Planet (Land): Rey’s Imprisonment and Escape

• Rey is taken to the First Order Castle on the snow planet and imprisoned.
• Rey is escorted to her interrogation by Captain Phasma.

• We have reason to believe Kylo might not be in his armor for this sequence (For some scenes, Kylo doesn’t wear his armor but instead wears the same black uniform “The General” wears with his hair slicked back, a little long, just above the shoulders).
• Kylo uses his “powers” during his interrogation of Rey.
• Rey reverses this “probe” from Kylo as she’s mentally stronger than him or just more powerful in the Force.
• Rey tells Kylo: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.”
• Rey apparently has learned something about Kylo instead of Kylo learning something about her during this metaphysical connection they have formed. But it isn’t a total win for Rey as Kylo does figure out he doesn’t need the lightsaber to carry out his goals and there is another way.
• Kylo then leaves to report to “Uber” about Rey and BB-8.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Kylo Ren Tries to learn all he can from Rey. She turns the tables.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – CORRIDOR #1 Kylo Ren pauses outside the dungeon, flustered.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Rey uses some “special skills” to convince Stormtroopers to leave their post.
• We then see Rey escape via the ventilation system of the First Order Castle.

The Snow Planet (Land): The Heroes Rescue Rey

• CG EXTERIOR NIGHT OUTSIDE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Millennium Falcon races fast towards its target.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE Plate shots/landscapes as required for Millennium Falcon departure.
• INTERIOR NIGHT MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) About to arrive, Han reveals his crazy plan to stop.
• Han, Chewie and Finn arrive at the Snow Planet
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY EVIL CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon’s emergency stop.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Han, Chewie, Finn screaming at sudden arrival.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon crashing through trees.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Han reacts to Millennium Falcon slamming through trees.
• The Falcon crashes onto the snow planet’s surface near Kylo's ship.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon coming to a standstill.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Standstill. Han shook up. Finn consoles him regarding Kylo Ren.
• It seems that Finn may pick up Rey at this point (who has escaped from the First Order castle), and flee on a speeder bike. They steal a speeder bike and zoom away. They are spotted by a snowtrooper. A chase ensues over the snowy terrain and the heroes, Han and Chewie, “take him out.”
• Rey is touched the crew came back for her.
• Kylo and his troops track down the ship and Stormtroopers board it, followed by Kylo. It is empty.
• Kylo walks into the cockpit of the Falcon and sits in the pilot’s seat and has a moment.

The Snow Planet (Space, Sky, Land): Resistance-First Order Battle

• X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the Snow Planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. There are lots of shots detailing X-wings in various positions in space and in the sky above the snow planet.
• Queen Leia uses the Resistance superweapon (the Sledgehammer) to crush through Star Destroyers
• The General orders the firing of “The Array” superweapon on the Resistance, as the First Order Catapult is not yet charged up.
• The General’s subordinates refuse because the weapon will also destroy their TIE fighters
• The General appears to fire the superweapon himself
• In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. The General is coldhearted. He destroys his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships.
• The action in space is put to a stop in one fell swoop. It is just silenced.
• Queen Leia’s super weapon fails. The Resistance’s “Sledge Hammer” falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart.
• At this moment, Queen Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of the Resistance forces.
• Thankfully Poe Dameron and his squadron survive the attack from the array because it seems they were low enough to evade it.
• Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo on the planet’s surface. Han was thought missing even though Leia knew the Falcon survived the crash it experienced.
• Stormtroopers of the First Order line up as an imposing figure (Domhnall Gleeson’s “General” accompanied by Captain Phasma?) looks on (not clear this happens here).

The Snow Planet (Land): The Evil Castle Sequence

• Han and Chewie go their way
• Han, Chewie, Finn and Rey end up at the Evil Castle
• While the Resistance look like they’re in a bad situation, you should never fear. Han has a plan

A Compiled Synopsis of Star Wars: The Force Awakens
All rumors sourced from @MakingStarWars For the purposes of readability, the synopsis includes some of my own interpretations of scenes.

A lightsaber tumbles out of space. It enters the atmosphere of a desert planet, and plunges to the ground. This is the planet of Jakku. The lightsaber is retrieved by a mysterious hand. It finds its way to a village elder, codenamed the Vicar, played by Max Von Sydow. The Vicar contacts the Resistance – the good guys. An X-wing pilot, Poe Dameron – played by Oscar Isaac – arrives with his droid, BB-8, to collect the lightsaber from the Vicar. The exchange happens in his hut. Suddenly, the sound of ships are heard in the night. The First Order – the bad guys – are onto them! Poe Dameron places the lightsaber inside his droid, BB-8, and orders him to flee. Run BB-8! Run!

The perspective now shifts to a stormtrooper on a transport ship, headed for the planet Jakku at night. This stormtrooper is Finn, played by John Boyega. He is shorter than the others. They land, the hatch opens, and they immediately start taking fire from the villagers. The stormtroopers proceed to burn the village to the ground. They also torch Poe Dameron’s X-Wing. They are ordered to round up the remaining villagers, and massacre them. The short stormtrooper Finn lets some villagers go, out of compassion. Finn’s stormtrooper friend is killed in the assault, and he leaves a bloody handprint on Finn’s helmet.

A huge shuttle lands, and out of it emerges an evil dark lord in hooded robes and a helmet, wielding a red, cross-guarded lightsaber. This is Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren proceeds to make mincemeat of some of the villagers who dare attack him. He confronts the Vicar about the lightsaber. Kylo essentially asks “WHAT have you DONE with that lightsaber?” Kylo Ren is unsatisfied with the conversation. He kills the Vicar in cold blood.

Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot who is now without an X-Wing, is captured by Kylo Ren’s Stormtroopers. He is taken aboard a transport, and flown back to a First Order Star Destroyer. Finn, the short stormtrooper, also flies back to the Star Destroyer. But he is disturbed by his experience on the ground. Upon arrival, he feels ill. He takes off his helmet, and vomits. A superior arrives and tells him that another superior wishes to see him. They are displeased with his conduct in the village. His sentimental weakness. This likely means death, or worse, for Finn.

The perspective now shifts to a young woman on the desert planet of Jakku. This is Rey, who may also be called Kira, played by Daisy Ridley. She flies her speeder across the desert, and approaches a great ruin in the desert. A crashed Star Destroyer from a titanic battle between the Empire and the Rebellion, thirty years earlier. Rey enters the Destroyer, and proceeds to explore it, expertly hopping over huge chasms – some of which house the remains of old TIE fighters. She is a scavenger, on a planet that was once uninhabited, but is now populated by opportunists scavenging the wreckage of war. She also seems to be something of a skilled gymnast, as she hops from precipice to precipice in the Star Destroyer’s great husk. She scavenges a bit, and then decides to return home. In a rather evocative shot, she flies her speeder into a ONE SUN sunset.

We now cut back to the First Order Star Destroyer, hovering above the planet. The villain Kylo Ren is torturing Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot. He is confident he will get the information he needs. He emerges from the interrogation knowing that the lightsaber is now carried by a droid, BB-8. Kylo Ren delivers this information to his superior, codenamed “The General,” who is played by Domhnall Gleeson.

The stormtrooper Finn, likely fearing death (or worse), decides to flee. But he can’t fly. He needs a pilot. He sees Poe Dameron being escorted to the brig, and decides to act. He breaks Poe free. They steal a TIE fighter from the hangar bay, and stormtroopers try to stop them. The TIE lifts away from its moorings, firing at troopers as it makes its way out and into space. TIE fighters follow, screaming behind them. After a short chase, Finn and Poe are shot down. Poe is unconscious at the controls. But before they crash, Finn manages to eject himself from craft. He wakes up in the sand, back on Jakku. He looks around in a panic, and sees the crashed TIE fighter not so far away. He tries to get into it, but can’t. Finn sheds his stormtrooper armor, and puts on a jacket, that seemingly belongs to Poe Dameron. It’s not clear what happened to Poe. Finn, now disguised as a Resistance pilot, heads away from the wreckage. A speeder zooms by him, blasting sand into his face. Finn follows it, in the hope that it will lead him to the nearest settlement on this barren planet.

Kylo Ren and the General watch Finn’s hologram aboard the Star Destroyer. The General suggests to a Chrome Stormtrooper named Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, that she focus on hunting down the droid, and retrieving the lightsaber. Forget Finn, who is useless anyway. The lightsaber is the important objective.

The perspective shifts again to the female scavenger, Rey. She eats alone, in a rough, makeshift dwelling in the belly of an old AT-AT walker. Living among the bones of the old Empire. She hears a commotion outside, and finds that a droid is in some trouble. She helps the droid, who turns out to be BB-8. After doing so, she decides to sell BB-8 at the nearest salvage station, along with the rest of her loot. After some haggling, she is not able to part with the droid. She decides to keep it.

Later on the street, Rey is confronted by ruffians. Finn, emerging from his trek through the desert, enters the settlement. He quickly sees that Rey is in trouble. Being the compassionate type he intervenes to help her. She doesn’t need his help, of course, and doesn’t trust Finn’s intentions. She also doesn’t believe that he is a Resistance pilot. Rey and Finn make a run for it, with BB-8 in tow. They are pursued by ruffians again, who are perhaps fulfilling a bounty for the First Order. TIE fighters scream overhead, and begin firing laser blasts at them. They frantically look for a ship, and ultimately choose one that’s sitting there with its door open. It’s the Millennium Falcon.

Finn and Rey board the Falcon, and get it off the ground. Rey flies expertly, while Finn settles in at the guns. A few TIEs are in pursuit. Rey shouts at Finn to fire back at them! Rey flies the Falcon back towards the crashed Star Destroyer. In order to throw the TIEs off her back, she flies INTO the Destroyer from its rear rocket boosters. Into the belly of a beast. She and the TIEs slalom through the crashed Destroyer. But Rey knows these ruins, and she leaves the TIEs behind. The Millennium Falcon jets off into space, and loses its pursuers, probably by jumping to hyperspace.

We now cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room” aboard the Star Destroyer. He has received the news of the failed retrieval of the lightsaber. He speaks to himself. Rather, he speaks to the burned and twisted husk of a helmet. The helmet of Darth Vader.

We return to Rey and Finn on the Millennium Falcon. Either via tractor beam or their own choice, they are swallowed up by a Giant Freighter in space. Into the belly of another beast. The ship lands in a cavernous hangar bay. They open the door, and there at the bottom of the ramp is Han Solo and Chewbacca! Han orders the kids off his ship. They refuse. Han and Chewie enter the ship, and confront Finn and Rey. BB-8 hides in the back. Suddenly, an alert pops up in hologram form. Two competing gangs of ruffians approach the Falcon and they are temporarily united! Han asks the kids to hide in the storage bay. The gangs confront Han and Chewie, and they seem to be in trouble. Rey tries to help by releasing the ship’s cargo (which appears to be livestock, potentially giant space pigs). This provides a distraction. But a released creature grabs Finn and Rey is forced to chase it down and free Finn from the beast’s clutches. A fight ensues between the heroes and the gangs. Rey almost single-handedly takes on the gang using her skills with a staff. Han fires back, but Chewie is wounded in the fight. Finn helps Chewie, and wins some respect from Han Solo in the process. They rush back into the Falcon. Han gets behind the controls, with Rey in the copilot seat. When the Falcon won’t start, Rey manages to tinker with it and fix the ship, earning more respect from Captain Solo for the stowaways. As Chewie recovers in the back, they jet out of the Freighter, crashing into some of the livestock on the way out but still managing to escape. Finn attends to Chewie’s wounds. As he chats with the wookie, he finds the spherical remote Luke Skywalker trained with, fiddles with it, and disinterestedly puts it away.

Han asks Rey and Finn what the devil they are up to. BB-8 determines that the time is right, and reveals what he is carrying. A lightsaber. Han Solo recognizes it as belonging to Luke Skywalker! It’s the one Luke lost on Bespin, in his battle against his father. Han suggests they go to see “her.” “Who’s that?,” Maz Kanata. She’s a pirate. At a secret location on Yavin IV, a jungle planet that was once the home of the Rebel Alliance, and is now the main headquarters of the Resistance. She’ll know what to do. They fly there, and Rey is awed by the lush jungle, after so many years on a barren planet. They land. As Chewie and Finn power down the Falcon, Han has a private chat with Rey, and he bequeaths to her his trusty blaster, the DL-44, which she might need in this pirate’s nest. Evidence that Rey is Han’s heir? They arrive at Maz Kanata’s castle. It is a pirate hideout. A range of strange and unsavory characters, alien and human, lounge about inside. Han asks for Maz Kanata. While they wait, Rey gets into a barfight, Finn sticks up for her, and then Chewie takes care of the adversary. Finn, after a few drinks, thanks Finn for his bravery. An alien escorts them into a catacomb below the pirate castle. There they meet the diminutive and wise pirate alien, Maz Kanata, played as a mo-cap character by Lupita Nyong’o.

They show her the lightsaber, and Maz Kanata recognizes it immediately. She offers to show them a vision. Maz seemingly has force powers of some kind, and may have once been a Jedi (or a Jedi apprentice). They all hold hands, and a vision washes over them.

VISION: There is what looks to be a Jedi Academy, and the dead bodies of padawan are on the ground. Luke Skywalker shows up, too late. He sits by a funeral pyre with R2-D2. The droid is saddened by his master’s departure. Cut to the hand that takes the lightsaber at the start of the film. It is now revealed to be the hand of “Naka.” Naka accidentally starts a grass fire after igniting the saber. Cut to a local trader making a sale to a wealthy man. Cut to a fierce battle! The lightsaber is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN. The last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey. THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking an object. END OF VISION.

Then, Maz Kanata says something very heavy to Han, Rey and Finn. It is possible, though unconfirmed, that Rey may either learn that she is the lost daughter of Han Solo, or that Kylo Ren is her brother. Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber to them again. Rey is revolted by it, while Finn is attracted to it. He takes it in his hands. Maz Kanata knows why the saber came to her. Rey is deeply troubled, rejecting both the lightsaber and the information Maz has given them. She flees the pirate castle, and runs into the nearby jungle.

We then cut to what seems to be a spy in the pirate castle. This is an emissary, Kor Sella – played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers – that has been sent by Queen Leia, the leader of the Resistance, to track down the lightsaber. The mission is secret, and she is in clandestine garb.

Cut to BB-8, who finds Rey in the jungle. But suddenly, First Order ships are overhead! They have been tracked.

The perspective shifts to the villain, Kylo Ren. But this time, he is in communication with a mysterious superior codenamed “Uber” – played as a mo-cap character by Andy Serkis. Uber orders that a superweapon, codenamed “The Catapult” be used against the castle. Uber suggests to Kylo Ren that he “not get sentimental,” as Kylo hesitates to fire. This suggests that Kylo Ren may have some relationship with Han Solo, Rey, or both. Perhaps Kylo Ren is Han Solo’s lost son, and Rey is his sister…

Kylo Ren orders the pirate castle destroyed, but the heroes, including Maz Kanata, get out in time. The pirate castle blows up, and Leia’s emissary Kor Sella is killed. Leia, Admiral Ackbar, and her staff fear the worst. This alerts the Resistance that something is wrong.

Enemy fighters are flying overhead and landing. Captain Phasma, on Kylo Ren’s orders, seizes Rey and takes her captive. BB-8 flees. Rey is escorted away from the planet on a First Order shuttle.

A Resistance fighter arrives, piloted by Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot from the start of the film that Finn escaped with. He is now flying either a black, commandeered Special Ops TIE, or a black X-wing. He “make all the difference” in driving the First Order villains away! A shuttle lands, and it is Queen Leia with C-3PO in tow. She meets with Han, and the meeting is awkward. It seems they haven’t seen each other in a long while.

Han, Chewie, Finn, Poe and BB-8 go with Leia to the Resistance Base, which seems to be on the other side of the jungle planet of Yavin IV. There, Leia plies Finn for information about the First Order – likely probing for weaknesses. She may learn something very valuable from Finn, including the location of the First Order base and superweapon. This puts Resistance plans into motion to assault the First Order planet, and “The Catapult” superweapon they have housed there. Leia expresses pride in a new Resistance superweapon, codenamed “The Sledgehammer.” She seems to be quite militant. Leia also meets with Maz Kanata and receives Luke’s blue lightsaber. Maz suggests that for the time being, the lightsaber go to Finn, and Leia complies. Maz knows if it is in Finn’s hands, it will find its way back to Rey, when she is ready to accept her destiny. Han meets with Leia, and they seem to have an intimate scene. Before leaving, presumably to go after Rey, Han tells Leia that he will “hurry back.”

We cut to Rey, who is being interrogated by Kylo Ren in a First Order “Evil Castle” on their snowy, forested base planet, with a name still unknown. Kylo uses his force powers during the interrogation. Rey seems to reverse the probe, and learn something about Kylo and/or his plans. Rey informs Kylo he will never be as powerful as Darth Vader. This infuriates Kylo, and he leaves the chamber to report his findings. Was this a sibling duel? But the interrogation was not fruitless for Kylo Ren. He learns that he no longer needs the lightsaber to fulfil his purpose. His purpose remains mysterious, but it may have something to do with finding Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren reports to Uber with this new information. Rey then somehow uses her Force powers, likely mind tricks, to distract the snowtroopers guarding her cell. She escapes through a ventilation shaft, and emerges out in the open. It’s snowing.

Han, Chewie, and Finn, leave for the snowy, forested First Order planet on the Falcon, while Leia and Poe (with BB-8) prepare to assault the planet from space. Han crashes the Falcon on the planet by taking the ship into the atmosphere of the snow planet at very high speeds to jump past the First Order defenses. The crew of the Falcon comes out of hyperspace screaming as their ship cuts through trees before setting down. Han Solo hasn’t had a good day, and Finn learned about Kylo Ren’s past from Maz. Finn consoles Han Solo about the past. On their way to the First Order castle, Finn talks about his past to Han Solo and reveals a lot about himself from before he was a Stormtrooper, and why he became one. In the distance they spot a figure and it is Rey. Rey is moved. As an orphan, to have friends come back for her means a lot. This makes her reconsider her angry feelings at Maz Kanata’s castle.

During her interrogation, Rey may have retrieved vital information from Kylo Ren, which she may share with Han and the gang at this point. Armed with this information, the company then heads to the First Order Castle. Han has a plan! They will destroy “The Catapult” superweapon (or the shield that protects it), which is controlled from within the Castle.

We then cut to Kylo Ren, who walks into the cockpit of the crashed Falcon. He sits in the pilot’s seat, and has a moment. Is this his father’s ship? Does he remember it? Are those memories fond?
We then cut to the beginning of a great, climatic space battle above the snowy, forested First Order planet. The Resistance is throwing everything it has at the home base of the enemy. X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. Queen Leia uses the Resistance superweapon, “the Sledgehammer,” to crush through Star Destroyers as if they were tinker toys. She wields an awesome power against the First Order! Down on the planet, the General of the First Order orders the firing of “The Array,” a defensive superweapon that will take out all fighters in space around the planet. The General’s subordinates refuse to carry out his order, because the weapon would also destroy their own fleet. And so, the General fires the superweapon himself. In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. Every single one. The General is practical and coldhearted. He obliterates his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships, and secure the safety of their Catapult superweapon.

Queen Leia’s own superweapon, the Sledgehammer, is destroyed. It falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart. At this moment, Queen Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of Resistance forces. Han Solo and the others are presumed dead. Meanwhile on the ground, Han Solo and his crew witness the Sledgehammer’s destruction and know they have to take matters into their own hands.

Thankfully Poe Dameron, BB-8 and his X-Wing squadron survive the attack from the defensive Array weapon because they were low enough in the planet’s atmosphere to evade it. Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo and the gang on the planet’s surface. They’re alive!

Han, Finn, Rey and Chewie enter the First Order Castle. The security codes have changed. Finn feels defeated. Han Solo encourages Finn to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the Catapult superweapon. Finn runs off to do so. Han and the gang place charges around the Castle.

Kylo Ren arrives. The gang is on the ramparts of the Castle, and they are cornered. There’s no way out. Han Solo decides to personally confront Kylo Ren, as a means of protecting the others.

Finn, Rey and Chewbacca stop in their tracks. They watch as Han Solo speaks to Kylo Ren, who is most likely his son. Han may try to reason with him. Talk him off the ledge. Suddenly, Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. He murders Han, his likely father, in cold blood. Leia senses his death through the force. Chewbacca lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts. At that point, things start to collapse and explode around them, presumably as the charges set earlier do their job. There is an explosion, and the rest of the gang is forced to flee, leaving Han’s body behind as it is immolated in the blasts.

It seems that the explosions take out whatever shield may have been protecting the Catapult superweapon. This allows Poe Dameron, BB-8 and their X-Wing squadron to swoop in and destroy the superweapon. The General watches in horror as it all collapses. He checks in one last time with his mysterious superior, Uber to tell him the mission has failed and all is lost.

Kylo Ren flees into the forest. It is night-time, and snowing. Finn and Rey follow him, while Chewbacca runs back to the Falcon. Finn confronts Kylo Ren and holds his own in a lightsaber fight. However, over time he is bested by Kylo’s experience with a lightsaber. Finn is on the ground, and preparing to die. Rey arrives, and Finn tosses her the Skywalker lightsaber, which she has been reluctant to accept up until this point. To save her friend and avenge Han Solo’s death, she takes the weapon and attacks Kylo. But on a cliff edge, the ground falls away behind Rey and Finn, as all the charges they set on the Castle have made the area unstable. The heroes find themselves hanging from a precipice. Kylo Ren exits the scene. Just as their doom seems imminent, Chewbacca arrives on a repaired Millennium Falcon! He collects Rey and Finn, and jets off into space.

The First Order has been defeated, but Kylo Ren and Uber retreat to lick their wounds, and plot their next move.

Finn, Rey, Chewie, Poe and BB-8 all return to the Resistance base on Yavin IV as heroes. The tragic loss of Han Solo makes the celebration bittersweet. Leia tells Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived the assault. We follow Rey, as she says goodbye to the important players. Rey makes a special stop to say goodbye to Finn in the medical bay. Meanwhile BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO decode a puzzle of some kind, seemingly revealing Luke Skywalker’s location – a watery planet of rocky islands. Leia is elated that her long-lost brother is found, and suggests that Rey be the first to meet him. Leia and Rey have a special goodbye in which she bids Rey “a fond farewell.” Rey, Chewbacca, and BB-8 get into the Falcon and take off. Chewbacca playfully messes up Rey’s hair in an endearing gesture.

They fly away to find Luke.

The Falcon lands on a rocky island in the middle of the sea. Rey walks up a set of old stone steps carved into the mountain. She comes up to a hooded figure in a stone hut, and puts the lightsaber in his hand.

It’s Luke Skywalker.

Space: Opening Crawl

• Unknown. Likely something about 30 years having passed since the battle of Endor. There is also official confirmation that a major battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire occurred a year after Endor, over the desert planet Jakku, and this leads to a desert planet littered with destroyed ships, etc, and full of scavengers. Not clear this will be in the crawl.

Desert Planet Jakku: Opening Sequence

• Exterior Night-Space/Savannah - A lightsaber tumbles through space, crashes towards the ground.
• Exterior Day-Savannah - Lightsaber lands – dawn into day – a strange hand appears (seemingly picking up the lightsaber).

(speculation: there is a rumor that The Vicar is a former Imperial Moff whose Star Destroyer crashed in the “Battle of Jakku” after the Battle of Endor, was never rescued, started a settlement on the planet, and became anti-Empire).
• Exterior Night – The Village Vicarage - Poe sees First Order Transports approach. Vicar tells Poe to go.
• Exterior Night – Village - Poe and BB-8 rush through the village as residents prepare for battle.
• Exterior Night – Rise near village/X-wing (blue) - Poe gets his ride ready, BB-8 too. Poe sends message (likely to the resistance, possibly to Leia/ her emissary, though not confirmed).

Desert Planet Jakku: Rey meets Finn

• Rey eats dinner alone in her home (a converted wrecked AT-AT).
• BB-8 needs rescuing and Rey answers his call for help.
• Rey and BB-8 head for Salvage Station.

• EXT DAY SALVAGE STATION - Rey arrives at the Salvage Station. Unloads her heavy stuff.

• She tries to sell BB-8 to a trader, but when the deal falls through after some haggling she reluctantly decides to keep him.
• Finn staggers into a cantina, it seems, gets a drink, and sees Rey and BB-8 dealing with bullies. It seems (speculation) that Finn may try to help her (Speculation: The trader/ bullies may alert Stormtroopers to wanted droid).
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Rey thinks Finn is not to be trusted.
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Finn is trying to win her over (that seems to be his skill), and then Stormtroopers begin firing on them.
• When the Stormtroopers attack, Rey and Finn are thrown together to survive the ordeal.
• Rey, Finn, and BB-8 run/roll from explosions caused by attacking TIE Fighters.

 

Desert Planet Jakku/Land and Space: Escaping with the Millennium Falcon

• Finn and Rey steal the Millennium Falcon from a spaceport/ salvage station. The bullies and the trader try to stop them from getting away.
• TIEs are in hot pursuit of the Falcon as it rockets away.
• The Falcon is chased by TIE Fighters and we apparently move by some familiar landmarks (from THIS film, not previous ones)
• Rey and BB-8 pilot the ship. Finn gets on the Falcon’s turret.
• There’s a lot of banter between the two and to an extent they don’t seem to really know what they’re doing.
• As TIEs shoot at the Falcon, Rey has to ask Finn if he plans on “answering back.”
• EXT DAY CRASHED STAR DESTROYER – DUNES (IMAX) Aerial plates - Millennium Falcon banks hard, upside down and swoops.

• To save their skins, Rey pilots them into the insides of the giant crashed Star Destroyer she was scavenging from during her introduction sequence.

• The Falcon and the TIEs “slalom” around debris and the insides of the downed ship, eventually losing their pursuers.

• Finn gets those guns working and fires on the TIE Fighters in pursuit.
• Cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room,” talking to himself (or a burned Darth Vader helmet) on a Star Destroyer.

• Kylo Ren may talk about the saber and/or his true plans at this point (speculation)
• Cut back to Rey and Finn
• Finn compliments Rey (probably on her fast flying) and Rey figures out that Finn is lying about what he appears to be
• Falcon rockets into space

Giant Freighter/ Space: Kids Meet Han and Chewie

• Falcon ends up being swallowed by a huge freighter in space
• Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.
• Han, at some point here, says “Chewie, we’re home

• Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them.
• He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
• Something happens with the chessboard and they hear a noise
• Han checks the video screen.
• A gang is there!
• Han explains the cargo on the freighter (creature(s) without description), and they presumably load the Falcon with the cargo.
• Han hides the kids in the cargo storage on the Falcon.

• The gang are divided into two groups codenamed “Mods” and “Rockers” on set.
• The mods and rockers enter the ship.
• The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
• It’s a good distraction.
• The cargo is released.
• Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
• Hell breaks loose.
• Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
• Finn aids a wounded Chewbacca, which helps earn Han’s (and perhaps Rey’s) trust in him
• Rey fights off the gang by herself.
• Falcon has issues.
• Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
• Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.
• Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds.
• While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet. He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope.
• As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Maz Kanata's Castle: Visions of the Past

• After they leave the freighter in the Falcon, BB-8 shows the blue lightsaber (looks to be the lightsaber Luke lost in Bespin), and Han decides to fly to a jungle planet
• Finn asks who they are seeing and Han says “her,” which is “Maz Kanata.”
• INT DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Rey gets emotional at seeing so much green [Chewie is in back hurt]
• Once the Falcon touches down, Rey marvels at the vista near the landing site. Concept art depicts the Falcon setting down on a wooden dock on the water outside the stronghold. There are ships and freighters landed outside the castle, above the water in the concepts.
• While Chewie is still on the ship shutting her down with Finn, Han talks to Rey in private and he passes on one of, if not his most personal gun to her for protection in Maz’s stronghold. This is where Rey gets her DL-44, the gun Han Solo made famous.
• They go to “Maz Kanata’s pub.”
• Rey gets into a bar fight.
• Finn is little help in dealing with the rapscallions. Finn does try and stick up for Rey though.
• However, Chewbacca helps sort out the problem, as it turns out a Wookiee at your side is a little better than an ex-Stormtrooper for bar-fights.
• A short time after this encounter, Rey enjoys a few drinks, and gets tipsy on the pirate ale. It sounds like a good time! While tipsy, Rey thanks Finn for sticking up for her in the strife. Finn’s attempt at chivalry doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated by Rey.
• At some point, they are led to meet Maz Kanata. Maz Kanata is an alien who appears to be both a pirate leader, and someone with force powers of some kind. In particular, she seems capable of sharing visions of the past.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub – There is a secret underground chamber and Maz Kanata begins her tale to Han, Rey, and Finn. They hold hands.
• Flashback: Interior Night at Academy – Dead bodies are on the ground. Luke turns up.
• Flashback: Exterior Dusk at the Academy – It is noted it is peaceful now. Artoo-Detoo is saddened as his master departs.

• Flashback: Exterior Day at the Savannah – A hand that takes the sword at the start of the film is revealed to be Naka’s hand.
• Flashback: Exterior on the Savannah – A peasant’s hovel where the peasant drops the sword, starts a fire, panics and then returns.
• Flashback: Exterior Desert – Local trader is seen leaving (presumably then cuts to Finn and Rey’s faces as the story unfolds).
• Flashback: Exterior Day Desert – Local trader makes a sale to a wealthy man (may be the individual referred to as “Fat Cat” by the production).
• Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.
• Flashback: Exterior Night: the last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey!
• Flashback: THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking “the object.”
• Apparently what Maz Kanata says is pretty heavy to Han, Rey and Finn.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the underground chamber, Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber and Rey is revolted by it while Finn is attracted to it.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Maz Kanata now knows why the saber “came to her (Rey).” Rey doesn’t like this and flees the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Rey moves past aliens in an uproar as she leaves the establishment.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Courtyard: Rey runs away from the castle.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: Rey runs into the woods.
• Leia appears to send an emissary to Maz Kanata’s planet (rumored to be named Kor Sella). She has 3-4 scenes at most.
• It appears the emissary is on a secret mission of her own.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: BB-8 finds Rey but suddenly the villains are overhead.
• “Supreme Leader Snoke” is in communication with Kylo Ren and the “The General.” The Supreme Leader orders “The Catapult” weapon to be used against Han Solo, Rose, and the rest of the heroes.
• The Supreme Leader tells Kylo “don’t get sentimental.” This is allegedly due to Kylo’s reluctance to fire the superweapon at the Castle and Pub.
• The weapon is fired, killing Kor Sella, taking out a “castle,” “the tunnel of love,” and the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the corridors underneath the pub they notice Rey and BB-8 are missing as massive shaking begins.
• EXTERIOR DAY Maz Kanata’s PUB Finn wants to go after Rey. Han upset. Maz Kanata explains why.
• Exterior Maz Kanata’s Pub Plate Shot: From Rey’s point of view we see the destruction of the Castle.
• Exterior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s Point of view we see Maz Kanata’s pub is chaotic.
• Exterior Day Woods Near Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s perspective we see Maz Kanata’s Pub ruined.
• Rey is spotted by First Order forces very quickly. Kylo Ren and his troops (who are on their way to survey the damage from the weapon) pursue Rey and capture her.
• Finn witnesses the capture from afar but can’t save her.
• BB-8 hides and evades capture too and the heroes meet up with Leia, the droids, and head for the Resistance base without Rey.
• Leia’s emissary is at Maz Kanata’s Pub when the First Order’s new “Catapult” weapon levels the pub and the castle next to it.
• The emissary is killed by this.
• INTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE – MAP ROOM Leia and staff react to Tunnel of Love unhappy ending
• The Resistance witnesses Kor Sella’s death and springs into action. This is where we believe we will see Admiral Ackbar, very old, in a new, slightly green outfit. He is part of Leia’s “staff.”
• Kylo Ren arrives with Stormtroopers in tow.
• Note: This pertains to: “Interior Day: Maz Kanata’s Pub hallways beneath the pub, Maz Kanata “uses her special skills” to defeat Stormtroopers.
• A fight seems to break out between First Order and Resistance forces in the wooded area outside the Castle and Pub.
• A “black TIE” arrives and seems to “make all the difference” in driving away the First Order troops (this may or may not be flown by Poe Dameron, and may end up being a black X-wing).
• The death of Leia’s emissary’s compels Leia (with See-Threepio in tow) to arrive at Maz Kanata’s planet.
• Han Solo and Leia meet for the first time in the film. It is described as “awkward.”

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Resistance Base: Preparing for Final Conflict

• Leia appears to be a prominent leader of the Resistance (described as “Queen” on the main cast list).
• Finn and Poe meet again
• In the Map Room, C-3PO and R2-D2 assist in a briefing on the attack on the First Order.
• Leia wants to know what Finn knows (presumably about the First Order’s secret weapon).
• Finn explains the First Order Fortress to the Resistance attackers so they can understand how to bring the evildoers down to their knees once and for all.
• Finn’s knowledge of The First Order runs deep and he also explains the “Catapult” to the Resistance which is The First Order’s ultimate weapon. It seems as if the First Order Fortress and the “Catapult” are connected strategically.
• CUT to a scene at the First Order fortress control room, “Looking down into the heart of the Catapult”
• CUT back to Resistance Base Map Room
• Finn’s intelligence is paramount to the Resistance being able to strike back against The First Order.
• This is what inspires Leia to hatch her plan.
• In the Map Room of the Resistance Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.
• Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
• Leia is proud of this weapon.
• Leia prepares for the Resistance attack on the First Order base.
• A Resistance pilot, Gorwyn, is introduced during this sequence.
• Gliv, part of Queen Leia’s entourage, is also present
• Maz Kanata hands the blue lightsaber (clearly the saber Luke lost in Bespin) to Leia

• Maz Kanata tells Leia she thinks the sword found inside BB-8 should be with Finn
• Leia and Han still argue.
• The last thing Han says to Leia before he leaves for the final mission is “I’ll hurry back.”
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) Leia gives Finn the lightsaber. Han promises to hurry back to Leia.
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) wide shot as Millennium Falcon takes off on the mission.

The Snow Planet (Land): Rey’s Imprisonment and Escape

• Rey is taken to the First Order Castle on the snow planet and imprisoned.
• Rey is escorted to her interrogation by Captain Phasma.

• We have reason to believe Kylo might not be in his armor for this sequence (For some scenes, Kylo doesn’t wear his armor but instead wears the same black uniform “The General” wears with his hair slicked back, a little long, just above the shoulders).
• Kylo uses his “powers” during his interrogation of Rey.
• Rey reverses this “probe” from Kylo as she’s mentally stronger than him or just more powerful in the Force.
• Rey tells Kylo: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.”
• Rey apparently has learned something about Kylo instead of Kylo learning something about her during this metaphysical connection they have formed. But it isn’t a total win for Rey as Kylo does figure out he doesn’t need the lightsaber to carry out his goals and there is another way.
• Kylo then leaves to report to the Supreme Leader about Rey and BB-8.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Kylo Ren Tries to learn all he can from Rey. She turns the tables.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – CORRIDOR #1 Kylo Ren pauses outside the dungeon, flustered.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Rey uses some “special skills” to convince Stormtroopers to leave their post.
• We then see Rey escape via the ventilation system of the First Order Castle.

The Snow Planet (Land): The Heroes Rescue Rey

• CG EXTERIOR NIGHT OUTSIDE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Millennium Falcon races fast towards its target.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE Plate shots/landscapes as required for Millennium Falcon departure.
• INTERIOR NIGHT MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) About to arrive, Han reveals his crazy plan to stop.
• Han, Chewie and Finn arrive at the Snow Planet
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY EVIL CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon’s emergency stop.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Han, Chewie, Finn screaming at sudden arrival.

• The Falcon crashes onto the snow planet’s surface near Kylo's ship.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon coming to a standstill.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Standstill. Han shook up. Finn consoles him regarding Kylo Ren.
• It seems that Finn may pick up Rey at this point (who has escaped from the First Order castle), and flee on a speeder bike. They steal a speeder bike and zoom away. They are spotted by a snowtrooper. A chase ensues over the snowy terrain and the heroes, Han and Chewie, “take him out.”
• Rey is touched the crew came back for her.
• Kylo and his troops track down the ship and Stormtroopers board it, followed by Kylo. It is empty.
• Kylo walks into the cockpit of the Falcon and sits in the pilot’s seat and has a moment.

The Snow Planet (Space, Sky, Land): Resistance-First Order Battle

• X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the Snow Planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. There are lots of shots detailing X-wings in various positions in space and in the sky above the snow planet.
• Queen Leia uses the Resistance superweapon (the Sledgehammer) to crush through Star Destroyers
• The General orders the firing of “The Array” superweapon on the Resistance, as the First Order Catapult is not yet charged up.
• The General’s subordinates refuse because the weapon will also destroy their TIE fighters
• The General appears to fire the superweapon himself
• In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. The General is coldhearted. He destroys his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships.
• The action in space is put to a stop in one fell swoop. It is just silenced.
• Queen Leia’s super weapon fails. The Resistance’s “Sledge Hammer” falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart.
• At this moment, Queen Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of the Resistance forces.
• Thankfully Poe Dameron and his squadron survive the attack from the array because it seems they were low enough to evade it.
• Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo on the planet’s surface. Han was thought missing even though Leia knew the Falcon survived the crash it experienced.
• Stormtroopers of the First Order line up as an imposing figure (Domhnall Gleeson’s “General” accompanied by Captain Phasma?) looks on (not clear this happens here).

The Snow Planet (Land): The Evil Castle Sequence

• Han and Chewie go their way
• Han, Chewie, Finn and Rey end up at the Evil Castle
• While the Resistance look like they’re in a bad situation, you should never fear. Han has a plan
• Han Solo encourages Finn (described as a pep talk) to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the First Order superweapon (the Catapult)
• Finn runs off to do so.
• Finn uses the lightsaber to cut through some things to dismantle the shield protecting the First Order base.
• Finn dispatches some stormtroopers with his lightsaber.
• Han and the gang plant explosive charges around the Evil Castle.
• Han Solo is hiding.
• He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Ren.
• Finn, Rey, Chewbacca stop in their tracks.
• They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren.
• When Kylo and Han meet, it cuts to Leia who feels “a disturbance in the Force” so to speak.
• There is no indication Leia is a Jedi or started upon that path with her brother.

A Compiled Synopsis of Star Wars: The Force Awakens All rumors sourced from @MakingStarWars For the purposes of readability, the synopsis includes some of my own interpretations of scenes.

A lightsaber tumbles out of space. It enters the atmosphere of a desert planet, and plunges to the ground. This is the planet of Jakku. The lightsaber is retrieved by a mysterious hand. It finds its way to a village elder, codenamed the Vicar, played by Max Von Sydow. The Vicar contacts the Resistance – the good guys. An X-wing pilot, Poe Dameron – played by Oscar Isaac – arrives with his droid, BB-8, to collect the lightsaber from the Vicar. The exchange happens in his hut. Suddenly, the sound of ships are heard in the night. The First Order – the bad guys – are onto them! Poe Dameron places the lightsaber inside his droid, BB-8, and orders him to flee. Run BB-8! Run!

The perspective now shifts to a stormtrooper on a transport ship, headed for the planet Jakku at night. This stormtrooper is Finn, played by John Boyega. He is shorter than the others. They land, the hatch opens, and they immediately start taking fire from the villagers. The stormtroopers proceed to burn the village to the ground. They also torch Poe Dameron’s X-Wing. They are ordered to round up the remaining villagers, and massacre them. The short stormtrooper Finn lets some villagers go, out of compassion. Finn’s stormtrooper friend is killed in the assault, and he leaves a bloody handprint on Finn’s helmet.

A huge shuttle lands, and out of it emerges an evil dark lord in hooded robes and a helmet, wielding a red, cross-guarded lightsaber. This is Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren proceeds to make mincemeat of some of the villagers who dare attack him. He confronts the Vicar about the lightsaber. Kylo essentially asks “WHAT have you DONE with that lightsaber?” Kylo Ren is unsatisfied with the conversation. He kills the Vicar in cold blood.

Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot who is now without an X-Wing, is captured by Kylo Ren’s Stormtroopers. He is taken aboard a transport, and flown back to a First Order Star Destroyer. Finn, the short stormtrooper, also flies back to the Star Destroyer. But he is disturbed by his experience on the ground. Upon arrival, he feels ill. He takes off his helmet, and vomits. A superior arrives and tells him that another superior wishes to see him. They are displeased with his conduct in the village. His sentimental weakness. This likely means death, or worse, for Finn.

The perspective now shifts to a young woman on the desert planet of Jakku. This is Rey, who may also be called Kira, played by Daisy Ridley. She flies her speeder across the desert, and approaches a great ruin in the desert. A crashed Star Destroyer from a titanic battle between the Empire and the Rebellion, thirty years earlier. Rey enters the Destroyer, and proceeds to explore it, expertly hopping over huge chasms – some of which house the remains of old TIE fighters. She is a scavenger, on a planet that was once uninhabited, but is now populated by opportunists scavenging the wreckage of war. She also seems to be something of a skilled gymnast, as she hops from precipice to precipice in the Star Destroyer’s great husk. She scavenges a bit, and then decides to return home. In a rather evocative shot, she flies her speeder into a ONE SUN sunset.

We now cut back to the First Order Star Destroyer, hovering above the planet. The villain Kylo Ren is torturing Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot. He is confident he will get the information he needs. He emerges from the interrogation knowing that the lightsaber is now carried by a droid, BB-8. Kylo Ren delivers this information to his superior, codenamed “The General,” who is played by Domhnall Gleeson.

The stormtrooper Finn, likely fearing death (or worse), decides to flee. But he can’t fly. He needs a pilot. He sees Poe Dameron being escorted to the brig, and decides to act. He breaks Poe free. They steal a TIE fighter from the hangar bay, and stormtroopers try to stop them. The TIE lifts away from its moorings, firing at troopers as it makes its way out and into space. TIE fighters follow, screaming behind them. After a short chase, Finn and Poe are shot down. Poe is unconscious at the controls. But before they crash, Finn manages to eject himself from craft. He wakes up in the sand, back on Jakku. He looks around in a panic, and sees the crashed TIE fighter not so far away. He tries to get into it, but can’t. Finn sheds his stormtrooper armor, and puts on a jacket, that seemingly belongs to Poe Dameron. It’s not clear what happened to Poe. Finn, now disguised as a Resistance pilot, heads away from the wreckage. A speeder zooms by him, blasting sand into his face. Finn follows it, in the hope that it will lead him to the nearest settlement on this barren planet.

Kylo Ren and the General watch Finn’s hologram aboard the Star Destroyer. The General suggests to a Chrome Stormtrooper named Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, that she focus on hunting down the droid, and retrieving the lightsaber. Forget Finn, who is useless anyway. The lightsaber is the important objective.

The perspective shifts again to the female scavenger, Rey. She eats alone, in a rough, makeshift dwelling in the belly of an old AT-AT walker. Living among the bones of the old Empire. She hears a commotion outside, and finds that a droid is in some trouble. She helps the droid, who turns out to be BB-8. After doing so, she decides to sell BB-8 at the nearest salvage station, along with the rest of her loot. After some haggling, she is not able to part with the droid. She decides to keep it.

Later on in the street, Rey is confronted by ruffians. Finn, emerging from his trek through the desert, enters the settlement. He quickly sees that Rey is in trouble. Being the compassionate type he intervenes to help her. She doesn’t need his help, of course, and doesn’t trust Finn’s intentions. She also doesn’t believe that he is a Resistance pilot. Rey and Finn make a run for it, with BB-8 in tow. They are pursued by ruffians again, who are perhaps fulfilling a bounty for the First Order. TIE fighters scream overhead, and begin firing laser blasts at them. They frantically look for a ship, and ultimately choose one that’s sitting there with its door open. It’s the Millennium Falcon.

Finn and Rey board the Falcon, and get it off the ground. Rey flies expertly, while Finn settles in at the guns. A few TIEs are in pursuit. Rey shouts at Finn to fire back at them! Rey flies the Falcon back towards the crashed Star Destroyer. In order to throw the TIEs off her back, she flies INTO the Destroyer from its rear rocket boosters. Into the belly of a beast. She and the TIEs slalom through the crashed Destroyer. But Rey knows these ruins, and she leaves the TIEs behind. The Millennium Falcon jets off into space, and loses its pursuers, probably by jumping to hyperspace.
We now cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room” aboard the Star Destroyer. He has received the news of the failed retrieval of the lightsaber. He speaks to himself. Rather, he speaks to the burned and twisted husk of a helmet. The helmet of Darth Vader.

We return to Rey and Finn on the Millennium Falcon. Either via tractor beam or their own choice, they are swallowed up by a Giant Freighter in space. Into the belly of another beast. The ship lands in a cavernous hangar bay. They open the door, and there at the bottom of the ramp is Han Solo and Chewbacca! Han orders the kids off his ship. They refuse. Han and Chewie enter the ship, and confront Finn and Rey. BB-8 hides in the back. Suddenly, an alert pops up in hologram form. Two competing gangs of ruffians approach the Falcon and they are temporarily united! Han asks the kids to hide in the storage bay. The gangs confront Han and Chewie, and they seem to be in trouble. Rey tries to help by releasing the ship’s cargo (which appears to be livestock, potentially giant space pigs). This provides a distraction. But a released creature grabs Finn and Rey is forced to chase it down and free Finn from the beast’s clutches. A fight ensues between the heroes and the gangs. Rey almost single-handedly takes on the gang using her skills with a staff. Han fires back, but Chewie is wounded in the fight. Finn helps Chewie, and wins some respect from Han Solo in the process. They rush back into the Falcon. Han gets behind the controls, with Rey in the copilot seat. When the Falcon won’t start, Rey manages to tinker with it and fix the ship, earning more respect from Captain Solo for the stowaways. As Chewie recovers in the back, they jet out of the Freighter, crashing into some of the livestock on the way out but still managing to escape. Finn attends to Chewie’s wounds. As he chats with the wookie, he finds the spherical remote Luke Skywalker trained with, fiddles with it, and disinterestedly puts it away.

Han asks Rey and Finn what the devil they are up to. BB-8 determines that the time is right, and reveals what he is carrying. A lightsaber. Han Solo recognizes it as belonging to Luke Skywalker! It’s the one Luke lost on Bespin, in his battle against his father. Han suggests they go to see “her.” “Who’s that?,” Maz Kanata. She’s a pirate. At a secret location on Yavin IV, a jungle planet that was once the home of the Rebel Alliance, and is now the main headquarters of the Resistance. She’ll know what to do. They fly there, and Rey is awed by the lush jungle, after so many years on a barren planet. They land. As Chewie and Finn power down the Falcon, Han has a private chat with Rey, and he bequeaths to her his trusty blaster, the DL-44, which she might need in this pirate’s nest. Evidence that Rey is Han’s heir? They arrive at Maz Kanata’s castle. It is a pirate hideout. A range of strange and unsavory characters, alien and human, lounge about inside. Han asks for Maz Kanata. While they wait, Rey gets into a barfight, Finn sticks up for her, and then Chewie takes care of the adversary. Finn, after a few drinks, thanks Finn for his bravery. An alien escorts them into a catacomb below the pirate castle. There they meet the diminutive and wise pirate alien, Maz Kanata, played as a mo-cap character by Lupita Nyong’o.

They show her the lightsaber, and Maz Kanata recognizes it immediately. She offers to show them a vision. Maz seemingly has force powers of some kind, and may have once been a Jedi (or a Jedi apprentice). They all hold hands, and a vision washes over them.

VISION: There is what looks to be a Jedi Academy, and the dead bodies of padawan are on the ground. Luke Skywalker shows up, too late. He sits by a funeral pyre with R2-D2. The droid is saddened by his master’s departure. Cut to the hand that takes the lightsaber at the start of the film. It is now revealed to be the hand of “Naka.” Naka accidentally starts a grass fire after igniting the saber. Cut to a local trader making a sale to a wealthy man. Cut to a fierce battle! The lightsaber is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN. The last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey. THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking an object. END OF VISION.

Then, Maz Kanata says something very heavy to Han, Rey and Finn. It is possible, though unconfirmed, that Rey may either learn that she is the lost daughter of Han Solo, or that Kylo Ren is her brother. Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber to them again. Rey is revolted by it, while Finn is attracted to it. He takes it in his hands. Maz Kanata knows why the saber came to her. Rey is deeply troubled, rejecting both the lightsaber and the information Maz has given them. She flees the pirate castle, and runs into the nearby jungle.

We then cut to what seems to be a spy in the pirate castle. This is an emissary, Kor Sella – played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers – that has been sent by Queen Leia, the leader of the Resistance, to track down the lightsaber. The mission is secret, and she is in clandestine garb.

Cut to BB-8, who finds Rey in the jungle. But suddenly, First Order ships are overhead! They have been tracked.

The perspective shifts to the villain, Kylo Ren. But this time, he is in communication with a mysterious superior named “Supreme Leader Snoke” – played as a mo-cap character by Andy Serkis. The Supreme Leader orders that a superweapon, codenamed “The Catapult” be used against the castle. The Supreme Leader suggests to Kylo Ren that he “not get sentimental,” as Kylo hesitates to fire. This suggests that Kylo Ren may have some relationship with Han Solo, Rey, or both. Perhaps Kylo Ren is Han Solo’s lost son, and Rey is his sister…

Kylo Ren orders the pirate castle destroyed, but the heroes, including Maz Kanata, get out in time. The pirate castle blows up, and Leia’s emissary Kor Sella is killed. Leia, Admiral Ackbar, and her staff fear the worst. This alerts the Resistance that something is wrong.

Enemy fighters are flying overhead and landing. Captain Phasma, on Kylo Ren’s orders, seizes Rey and takes her captive. BB-8 flees. Rey is escorted away from the planet on a First Order shuttle.

A Resistance fighter arrives, piloted by Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot from the start of the film that Finn escaped with. He is now flying either a black, commandeered Special Ops TIE, or a black X-wing. He “make all the difference” in driving the First Order villains away! A shuttle lands, and it is Queen Leia with C-3PO in tow. She meets with Han, and the meeting is awkward. It seems they haven’t seen each other in a long while.

Han, Chewie, Finn, Poe and BB-8 go with Leia to the Resistance Base, which seems to be on the other side of the jungle planet of Yavin IV. There in the Map Room, Leia plies Finn for information about the First Order – likely probing for weaknesses. She learns something very valuable from Finn, who discloses the location and weaknesses of the First Order base and superweapon, which seem to be strategically linked. This puts Resistance plans into motion to assault the First Order planet, and “The Catapult” superweapon they have housed there. Leia expresses pride in a new Resistance superweapon, codenamed “The Sledgehammer,” and decides to use it against the First Order base. She seems to be quite militant. The Resistance begin preparing for the assault, including Poe and another squadron leader named Gorwyn. Leia also meets with Maz Kanata and receives Luke’s blue lightsaber. Maz suggests that for the time being, the lightsaber go to Finn, and Leia complies. Maz knows if it is in Finn’s hands, it will find its way back to Rey, when she is ready to accept her destiny. Han meets with Leia, and they seem to have an intimate scene. Before leaving, presumably to go after Rey, Han tells Leia that he will “hurry back.”

We cut to Rey, who is being interrogated by Kylo Ren in a First Order “Evil Castle” on their snowy, forested base planet, with a name still unknown. Kylo uses his force powers during the interrogation. Rey seems to reverse the probe, and learn something about Kylo and/or his plans. Rey informs Kylo he will never be as powerful as Darth Vader. This infuriates Kylo, and he leaves the chamber to report his findings. Was this a sibling duel? But the interrogation was not fruitless for Kylo Ren. He learns that he no longer needs the lightsaber to fulfil his purpose. His purpose remains mysterious, but it may have something to do with finding Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren reports to the Supreme Leader with this new information. Rey then somehow uses her Force powers, likely mind tricks, to distract the snowtroopers guarding her cell. She escapes through a ventilation shaft, and emerges out in the open. It’s snowing.

Han, Chewie, and Finn, leave for the snowy, forested First Order planet on the Falcon, while Leia and Poe (with BB-8) prepare to assault the planet from space. Han crashes the Falcon on the planet by taking the ship into the atmosphere of the snow planet at very high speeds to jump past the First Order defenses. The crew of the Falcon comes out of hyperspace screaming as their ship cuts through trees before setting down. Han Solo hasn’t had a good day, and Finn learned about Kylo Ren’s past from Maz. Finn consoles Han Solo about the past. On their way to the First Order castle, Finn talks about his past to Han Solo and reveals a lot about himself from before he was a Stormtrooper, and why he became one. In the distance they spot a figure and it is Rey. Rey is moved. As an orphan, to have friends come back for her means a lot. This makes her reconsider her angry feelings at Maz Kanata’s castle.

During her interrogation, Rey may have retrieved vital information from Kylo Ren, which she may share with Han and the gang at this point. Armed with this information, the company then heads to the First Order Castle. Han has a plan! They will destroy “The Catapult” superweapon (or the shield that protects it), which is controlled from within the Castle.

We then cut to Kylo Ren, who walks into the cockpit of the crashed Falcon. He sits in the pilot’s seat, and has a moment. Is this his father’s ship? Does he remember it? Are those memories fond?
We then cut to the beginning of a great, climatic space battle above the snowy, forested First Order planet. The Resistance is throwing everything it has at the home base of the enemy. X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. Queen Leia uses the Resistance superweapon, “the Sledgehammer,” to crush through Star Destroyers as if they were tinker toys. She wields an awesome power against the First Order! Down on the planet, the General of the First Order orders the firing of “The Array,” a defensive superweapon that will take out all fighters in space around the planet. The General’s subordinates refuse to carry out his order, because the weapon would also destroy their own fleet. And so, the General fires the superweapon himself. In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. Every single one. The General is practical and coldhearted. He obliterates his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships, and secure the safety of their Catapult superweapon.

Queen Leia’s own superweapon, the Sledgehammer, is destroyed. It falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart. At this moment, Queen Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of Resistance forces. Han Solo and the others are presumed dead. Meanwhile on the ground, Han Solo and his crew witness the Sledgehammer’s destruction and know they have to take matters into their own hands.

Thankfully Poe Dameron, BB-8 and his X-Wing squadron survive the attack from the defensive Array weapon because they were low enough in the planet’s atmosphere to evade it. Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo and the gang on the planet’s surface. They’re alive!

Han, Finn, Rey and Chewie enter the First Order Castle. The security codes have changed. Finn feels defeated. Han Solo encourages Finn to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the Catapult superweapon. Finn runs off to do so. He also dispatches some stormtroopers with the lightsaber. Han and the gang place charges around the Castle.
Kylo Ren arrives. The gang is on the ramparts of the Castle, and they are cornered. There’s no way out. Han Solo decides to personally confront Kylo Ren, as a means of protecting the others.
Finn, Rey and Chewbacca stop in their tracks. They watch as Han Solo speaks to Kylo Ren, who is most likely his son. Han may try to reason with him. Talk him off the ledge. Suddenly, Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. He murders Han, his likely father, in cold blood. Leia senses his death through the force. Chewbacca lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts. At that point, things start to collapse and explode around them, presumably as the charges set earlier do their job. There is an explosion, and the rest of the gang is forced to flee, leaving Han’s body behind as it is immolated in the blasts.

It seems that the explosions take out whatever shield may have been protecting the Catapult superweapon. This allows Poe Dameron, BB-8 and their X-Wing squadron to swoop in and destroy the superweapon. The General watches in horror as it all collapses. He checks in one last time with the Supreme Leader, to tell him the mission has failed and all is lost.

Kylo Ren flees into the forest. It is night-time, and snowing. Finn and Rey follow him, while Chewbacca runs back to the Falcon. Finn confronts Kylo Ren and holds his own in a lightsaber fight. However, over time he is bested by Kylo’s experience with a lightsaber. Finn is on the ground, and preparing to die. Rey arrives, and Finn tosses her the Skywalker lightsaber, which she has been reluctant to accept up until this point. To save her friend and avenge Han Solo’s death, she takes the weapon and attacks Kylo. But on a cliff edge, the ground falls away behind Rey and Finn, as all the charges they set on the Castle have made the area unstable. The heroes find themselves hanging from a precipice. Kylo Ren exits the scene. Just as their doom seems imminent, Chewbacca arrives on a repaired Millennium Falcon! He collects Rey and Finn, and jets off into space.

The First Order has been defeated, but Kylo Ren and The Supreme Leader Snoke retreat to lick their wounds, and plot their next move.

Finn, Rey, Chewie, Poe and BB-8 all return to the Resistance base on Yavin IV as heroes. The tragic loss of Han Solo makes the celebration bittersweet. Leia tells Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived the assault. We follow Rey, as she says goodbye to the important players. Rey makes a special stop to say goodbye to Finn in the medical bay. Meanwhile BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO decode a puzzle of some kind, seemingly revealing Luke Skywalker’s location – a watery planet of rocky islands. Leia is elated that her long-lost brother is found, and suggests that Rey be the first to meet him. Leia and Rey have a special goodbye in which she bids Rey “a fond farewell.” Rey, Chewbacca, and BB-8 get into the Falcon and take off. Chewbacca playfully messes up Rey’s hair in an endearing gesture. They fly away to find Luke.

The Falcon lands on a rocky island in the middle of the sea. Rey walks up a set of old stone steps carved into the mountain. She comes up to a hooded figure in a stone hut, and puts the lightsaber in his hand.

It’s Luke Skywalker.

Space: Opening Crawl

• Unknown. Likely something about 30 years having passed since the battle of Endor. There is also official confirmation that a major battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire occurred a year after Endor, over the desert planet Jakku, and this leads to a desert planet littered with destroyed ships, etc, and full of scavengers. Not clear this will be in the crawl.

Desert Planet Jakku: Opening Sequence

• Exterior Night-Space/Savannah - A lightsaber tumbles through space, crashes towards the ground.
• Exterior Day-Savannah - Lightsaber lands – dawn into day – a strange hand appears (seemingly picking up the lightsaber).
• Exterior Night- Outskirts of Village – A droid, BB-8, is troubled by something coming and hurries off.
• Exterior Night – The Village - BB-8 pushes towards the vicarage.

Desert Planet Jakku: Rey meets Finn

• Rey eats dinner alone in her home (a converted wrecked AT-AT).
• BB-8 needs rescuing and Rey answers his call for help.
• Rey and BB-8 head for Salvage Station.

• EXT DAY SALVAGE STATION - Rey arrives at the Salvage Station. Unloads her heavy stuff.

• She tries to sell BB-8 to a trader, but when the deal falls through after some haggling she reluctantly decides to keep him.
• Finn staggers into a cantina, it seems, gets a drink, and sees Rey and BB-8 dealing with bullies. It seems (speculation) that Finn may try to help her (Speculation: The trader/ bullies may alert Stormtroopers to wanted droid).
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Rey thinks Finn is not to be trusted.
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Finn is trying to win her over (that seems to be his skill), and then Stormtroopers begin firing on them.
• When the Stormtroopers attack, Rey and Finn are thrown together to survive the ordeal.

Desert Planet Jakku/Land and Space: Escaping with the Millennium Falcon

• Finn and Rey steal the Millennium Falcon from a spaceport/ salvage station. The bullies and the trader try to stop them from getting away.
• TIEs are in hot pursuit of the Falcon as it rockets away.
• The Falcon is chased by TIE Fighters and we apparently move by some familiar landmarks (from THIS film, not previous ones)
• Rey and BB-8 pilot the ship. Finn gets on the Falcon’s turret.
• There’s a lot of banter between the two and to an extent they don’t seem to really know what they’re doing.
• As TIEs shoot at the Falcon, Rey has to ask Finn if he plans on “answering back.”
• EXT DAY CRASHED STAR DESTROYER – DUNES (IMAX) Aerial plates - Millennium Falcon banks hard, upside down and swoops.

• To save their skins, Rey pilots them into the insides of the giant crashed Star Destroyer she was scavenging from during her introduction sequence.

• The Falcon and the TIEs “slalom” around debris and the insides of the downed ship, eventually losing their pursuers.

• Finn gets those guns working and fires on the TIE Fighters in pursuit.
• Cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room,” talking to himself (or a burned Darth Vader helmet) on a Star Destroyer.

• Kylo Ren may talk about the saber and/or his true plans at this point (speculation)
• Cut back to Rey and Finn
• Finn compliments Rey (probably on her fast flying) and Rey figures out that Finn is lying about what he appears to be
• Falcon rockets into space

Giant Freighter/ Space: Kids Meet Han and Chewie

• Falcon ends up being swallowed by a huge freighter in space
• Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.

• Han, at some point here, says “Chewie, we’re home

• Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them.
• He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
• Something happens with the chessboard and they hear a noise
• Han checks the video screen.
• A gang is there!
• Han explains the cargo on the freighter (creature(s) without description), and they presumably load the Falcon with the cargo.
• Han hides the kids in the cargo storage on the Falcon.

• The gang are divided into two groups codenamed “Mods” and “Rockers” on set.
• The mods and rockers enter the ship.
• The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
• It’s a good distraction.
• The cargo is released.
• Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
• Hell breaks loose.
• Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
• Finn aids a wounded Chewbacca, which helps earn Han’s (and perhaps Rey’s) trust in him
• Rey fights off the gang by herself.
• Falcon has issues.
• Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
• Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.
• Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds.
• While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet. He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope.
• As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Maz Kanata's Castle: Visions of the Past

• After they leave the freighter in the Falcon, BB-8 shows the blue lightsaber (looks to be the lightsaber Luke lost in Bespin), and Han decides to fly to a jungle planet
• Finn asks who they are seeing and Han says “her,” which is “Maz Kanata.”
• INT DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Rey gets emotional at seeing so much green [Chewie is in back hurt]
• Once the Falcon touches down, Rey marvels at the vista near the landing site. Concept art depicts the Falcon setting down on a wooden dock on the water outside the stronghold. There are ships and freighters landed outside the castle, above the water in the concepts.
• While Chewie is still on the ship shutting her down with Finn, Han talks to Rey in private and he passes on one of, if not his most personal gun to her for protection in Maz’s stronghold. This is where Rey gets her DL-44, the gun Han Solo made famous.
• They go to “Maz Kanata’s pub,” which is full of all sorts of pirate scum.

• Rey gets into a bar fight.
• Finn is little help in dealing with the rapscallions. Finn does try and stick up for Rey though.
• However, Chewbacca helps sort out the problem, as it turns out a Wookiee at your side is a little better than an ex-Stormtrooper for bar-fights.
• A short time after this encounter, Rey enjoys a few drinks, and gets tipsy on the pirate ale. It sounds like a good time! While tipsy, Rey thanks Finn for sticking up for her in the strife. Finn’s attempt at chivalry doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated by Rey.
• At some point, they are led to meet Maz Kanata. Maz Kanata is an alien who appears to be both a pirate leader, and someone with force powers of some kind. In particular, she seems capable of sharing visions of the past.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub – There is a secret underground chamber and Maz Kanata begins her tale to Han, Rey, and Finn. They hold hands.
• Flashback: Interior Night at Academy – Dead bodies are on the ground. Luke turns up.
• Flashback: Exterior Dusk at the Academy – It is noted it is peaceful now. Artoo-Detoo is saddened as his master departs.

• Flashback: Exterior Day at the Savannah – A hand that takes the sword at the start of the film is revealed to be Naka’s hand.
• Flashback: Exterior on the Savannah – A peasant’s hovel where the peasant drops the sword, starts a fire, panics and then returns.
• Flashback: Exterior Desert – Local trader is seen leaving (presumably then cuts to Finn and Rey’s faces as the story unfolds).
• Flashback: Exterior Day Desert – Local trader makes a sale to a wealthy man (may be the individual referred to as “Fat Cat” by the production).
• Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.
• Flashback: Exterior Night: the last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey!
• Flashback: THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking “the object.”
• Apparently what Maz Kanata says is pretty heavy to Han, Rey and Finn.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the underground chamber, Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber and Rey is revolted by it while Finn is attracted to it.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Maz Kanata now knows why the saber “came to her (Rey).” Rey doesn’t like this and flees the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Rey moves past aliens in an uproar as she leaves the establishment.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Courtyard: Rey runs away from the castle.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: Rey runs into the woods.
• Leia appears to send an emissary to Maz Kanata’s planet (rumored to be named Kor Sella). She has 3-4 scenes at most.
• It appears the emissary is on a secret mission of her own.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: BB-8 finds Rey but suddenly the villains are overhead.
• “Supreme Leader Snoke” is in communication with Kylo Ren and General Hux. The Supreme Leader orders “The Catapult” weapon to be used against Han Solo, Rose, and the rest of the heroes.
• The Supreme Leader tells Kylo “don’t get sentimental.” This is allegedly due to Kylo’s reluctance to fire the superweapon at the Castle and Pub.
• The weapon is fired, killing Kor Sella, taking out a “castle,” “the tunnel of love,” and the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the corridors underneath the pub they notice Rey and BB-8 are missing as massive shaking begins.
• EXTERIOR DAY Maz Kanata’s PUB Finn wants to go after Rey. Han upset. Maz Kanata explains why.
• Exterior Maz Kanata’s Pub Plate Shot: From Rey’s point of view we see the destruction of the Castle.
• Exterior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s Point of view we see Maz Kanata’s pub is chaotic.
• Exterior Day Woods Near Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s perspective we see Maz Kanata’s Pub ruined.
• Rey is spotted by First Order forces very quickly. Kylo Ren and his troops (who are on their way to survey the damage from the weapon) pursue Rey and capture her.
• Finn witnesses the capture from afar but can’t save her.
• BB-8 hides and evades capture too and the heroes meet up with Leia, the droids, and head for the Resistance base without Rey.
• Leia’s emissary is at Maz Kanata’s Pub when the First Order’s new “Catapult” weapon levels the pub and the castle next to it.
• The emissary is killed by this.
• INTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE – MAP ROOM Leia and staff react to Tunnel of Love unhappy ending
• The Resistance witnesses Kor Sella’s death and springs into action. This is where we believe we will see Admiral Ackbar, very old, in a new, slightly green outfit. He is part of Leia’s “staff.”
• Kylo Ren arrives with Stormtroopers in tow.
• Note: This pertains to: “Interior Day: Maz Kanata’s Pub hallways beneath the pub, Maz Kanata “uses her special skills” to defeat Stormtroopers.
• A fight seems to break out between First Order and Resistance forces in the wooded area outside the Castle and Pub.

• A “black TIE” arrives and seems to “make all the difference” in driving away the First Order troops (this may or may not be flown by Poe Dameron, and may end up being a black X-wing).
• The death of Leia’s emissary’s compels Leia (with See-Threepio in tow) to arrive at Maz Kanata’s planet.
• Han Solo and Leia meet for the first time in the film. It is described as “awkward.”

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Resistance Base: Preparing for Final Conflict

• Leia appears to be a prominent leader of the Resistance (described as “Queen” on the main cast list).
• Finn and Poe meet again
• In the Map Room, C-3PO and R2-D2 assist in a briefing on the attack on the First Order.
• Leia wants to know what Finn knows (presumably about the First Order’s secret weapon).
• Finn explains the First Order Fortress to the Resistance attackers so they can understand how to bring the evildoers down to their knees once and for all.
• Finn’s knowledge of The First Order runs deep and he also explains the “Catapult” to the Resistance which is The First Order’s ultimate weapon. It seems as if the First Order Fortress and the “Catapult” are connected strategically.
• CUT to a scene at the First Order fortress control room, “Looking down into the heart of the Catapult”
• CUT back to Resistance Base Map Room
• Finn’s intelligence is paramount to the Resistance being able to strike back against The First Order.
• This is what inspires Leia to hatch her plan.
• In the Map Room of the Resistance Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.

• Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
• Leia is proud of this weapon.
• Leia prepares for the Resistance attack on the First Order base (named “Starkiller Base”).
• A Resistance pilot, Gorwyn, is introduced during this sequence.
• Gliv, part of General Leia Organa’s entourage, is also present
• Maz Kanata hands the blue lightsaber (clearly the saber Luke lost in Bespin) to Leia

• Maz Kanata tells Leia she thinks the sword found inside BB-8 should be with Finn
• Leia and Han still argue.
• The last thing Han says to Leia before he leaves for the final mission is “I’ll hurry back.”
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) Leia gives Finn the lightsaber. Han promises to hurry back to Leia.
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) wide shot as Millennium Falcon takes off on the mission.

The Snow Planet (Land): Rey’s Imprisonment and Escape

• Rey is taken to the First Order Castle on the snow planet and imprisoned.
• Rey is escorted to her interrogation by Captain Phasma.

• We have reason to believe Kylo might not be in his armor for this sequence (For some scenes, Kylo doesn’t wear his armor but instead wears the same black uniform General Hux wears with his hair slicked back, a little long, just above the shoulders).
• Kylo uses his “powers” during his interrogation of Rey.
• Rey reverses this “probe” from Kylo as she’s mentally stronger than him or just more powerful in the Force.
• Rey tells Kylo: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.”
• Rey apparently has learned something about Kylo instead of Kylo learning something about her during this metaphysical connection they have formed. But it isn’t a total win for Rey as Kylo does figure out he doesn’t need the lightsaber to carry out his goals and there is another way.
• Kylo then leaves to report to the Supreme Leader about Rey and BB-8.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Kylo Ren Tries to learn all he can from Rey. She turns the tables.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – CORRIDOR #1 Kylo Ren pauses outside the dungeon, flustered.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Rey uses some “special skills” to convince Stormtroopers to leave their post.
• We then see Rey escape via the ventilation system of the First Order Castle.

The Snow Planet (Land): The Heroes Rescue Rey

• CG EXTERIOR NIGHT OUTSIDE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Millennium Falcon races fast towards its target.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE Plate shots/landscapes as required for Millennium Falcon departure.
• INTERIOR NIGHT MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) About to arrive, Han reveals his crazy plan to stop.
• Han, Chewie and Finn arrive at the Snow Planet

• The Falcon crashes onto the snow planet’s surface near Kylo's ship.

• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Standstill. Han shook up. Finn consoles him regarding Kylo Ren.
• It seems that Finn may pick up Rey at this point (who has escaped from the First Order castle), and flee on a speeder bike. They steal a speeder bike and zoom away. They are spotted by a snowtrooper. A chase ensues over the snowy terrain and the heroes, Han and Chewie, “take him out.”
• Rey is touched the crew came back for her.
• Kylo and his troops track down the ship and Stormtroopers board it, followed by Kylo. It is empty.
• Kylo walks into the cockpit of the Falcon and sits in the pilot’s seat and has a moment.

The Snow Planet (Space, Sky, Land): Resistance-First Order Battle

• X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the Snow Planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. There are lots of shots detailing X-wings in various positions in space and in the sky above the snow planet.
• General Leia uses the Resistance superweapon (the Sledgehammer) to crush through Star Destroyers
• General Hux orders the firing of “The Array” superweapon on the Resistance, as the First Order Catapult is not yet charged up.
• General Hux’s subordinates refuse because the weapon will also destroy their TIE fighters
• General Hux appears to fire the superweapon himself
• In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. General Hux is coldhearted. He destroys his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships.
• The action in space is put to a stop in one fell swoop. It is just silenced.
• General Leia’s super weapon fails. The Resistance’s “Sledge Hammer” falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart.
• At this moment, General Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of the Resistance forces.
• Thankfully Poe Dameron and his squadron survive the attack from the array because it seems they were low enough to evade it.
• Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo on the planet’s surface. Han was thought missing even though Leia knew the Falcon survived the crash it experienced.
• Stormtroopers of the First Order line up as an imposing figure (General Hux) accompanied by Captain Phasma) looks on (not clear this happens here).

 

The Snow Planet (Land): The Evil Castle Sequence

• Han and Chewie go their way
• Han, Chewie, Finn and Rey end up at the Evil Castle
• While the Resistance look like they’re in a bad situation, you should never fear. Han has a plan
• Han Solo encourages Finn (described as a pep talk) to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the First Order superweapon (the Catapult)
• Finn runs off to do so.
• Finn uses the lightsaber to cut through some things to dismantle the shield protecting the Starkiller Base.
• Finn dispatches some stormtroopers with his lightsaber.
• Han and the gang plant explosive charges around the Evil Castle.
• Han Solo is hiding.
• He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Ren.
• Finn, Rey, Chewbacca stop in their tracks.
• They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren.
• When Kylo and Han meet, it cuts to Leia who feels “a disturbance in the Force” so to speak.
• There is no indication Leia is a Jedi or started upon that path with her brother.
• Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. (i.e. he seems to kill Han).

A Compiled Synopsis of Star Wars: The Force Awakens All rumors sourced from @MakingStarWars For the purposes of readability, the synopsis includes some of my own interpretations of scenes.

A lightsaber tumbles out of space. It enters the atmosphere of a desert planet, and plunges to the ground. This is the planet of Jakku. The lightsaber is retrieved by a mysterious hand. It finds its way to a village elder, codenamed the Vicar, played by Max Von Sydow. The Vicar contacts the Resistance – the good guys. An X-wing pilot, Poe Dameron – played by Oscar Isaac and presumably sent by General Leia Organa – arrives with his droid, BB-8, to collect the lightsaber from the Vicar. The exchange happens in his hut. Suddenly, the sound of ships are heard in the night. The First Order – the bad guys – are onto them! Poe Dameron places the lightsaber inside his droid, BB-8, and orders him to flee. Run BB-8! Run!

The perspective now shifts to a stormtrooper on a transport ship, headed for the planet Jakku at night. This stormtrooper is Finn, played by John Boyega. He is shorter than the others. They land, the hatch opens, and they immediately start taking fire from the villagers. The stormtroopers proceed to burn the village to the ground. They also torch Poe Dameron’s X-Wing. They are ordered to round up the remaining villagers, and massacre them. The short stormtrooper Finn lets some villagers go, out of compassion. Finn’s stormtrooper friend is killed in the assault, and he leaves a bloody handprint on Finn’s helmet.

A huge shuttle lands, and out of it emerges an evil dark lord in hooded robes and a helmet, wielding a red, cross-guarded lightsaber. This is Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren proceeds to make mincemeat of some of the villagers who dare attack him. He confronts the Vicar about the lightsaber. Kylo essentially asks “WHAT have you DONE with that lightsaber?” Kylo Ren is unsatisfied with the conversation. He kills the Vicar in cold blood.

Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot who is now without an X-Wing, is captured by Kylo Ren’s Stormtroopers. He is taken aboard a transport, and flown back to a First Order Star Destroyer. Finn, the short stormtrooper, also flies back to the Star Destroyer. But he is disturbed by his experience on the ground. Upon arrival, he feels ill. He takes off his helmet, and vomits. A superior arrives and tells him that another superior wishes to see him. They are displeased with his conduct in the village. His sentimental weakness. This likely means death, or worse, for Finn.

The perspective now shifts to a young woman on the desert planet of Jakku. This is Rey, who may also be called Kira, played by Daisy Ridley. She flies her speeder across the desert, and approaches a great ruin in the desert. A crashed Star Destroyer from a titanic battle between the Empire and the Rebellion, thirty years earlier. Rey enters the Destroyer, and proceeds to explore it, expertly hopping over huge chasms – some of which house the remains of old TIE fighters. She is a scavenger, on a planet that was once uninhabited, but is now populated by opportunists scavenging the wreckage of war. She also seems to be something of a skilled gymnast, as she hops from precipice to precipice in the Star Destroyer’s great husk. She scavenges a bit, and then decides to return home. In a rather evocative shot, she flies her speeder into a ONE SUN sunset.

We now cut back to the First Order Star Destroyer, hovering above the planet. The villain Kylo Ren is torturing Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot. He is confident he will get the information he needs. He emerges from the interrogation knowing that the lightsaber is now carried by a droid, BB-8. Kylo Ren delivers this information to his superior, General Hux, who is played by Domhnall Gleeson.

The stormtrooper Finn, likely fearing death (or worse), decides to flee. But he can’t fly. He needs a pilot. He sees Poe Dameron being escorted to the brig, and decides to act. He breaks Poe free. They steal a TIE fighter from the hangar bay, and stormtroopers try to stop them. The TIE lifts away from its moorings, firing at troopers as it makes its way out and into space. TIE fighters follow, screaming behind them. After a short chase, Finn and Poe are shot down. Poe is unconscious at the controls. But before they crash, Finn manages to eject himself from craft. He wakes up in the sand, back on Jakku. He looks around in a panic, and sees the crashed TIE fighter not so far away. He tries to get into it, but can’t. Finn sheds his stormtrooper armor, and puts on a jacket, that seemingly belongs to Poe Dameron. It’s not clear what happened to Poe. Finn, now disguised as a Resistance pilot, heads away from the wreckage. A speeder zooms by him, blasting sand into his face. Finn follows it, in the hope that it will lead him to the nearest settlement on this barren planet.

Kylo Ren and General Hux watch Finn’s hologram aboard the Star Destroyer. General Hux suggests to a Chrome Stormtrooper named Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, that she focus on hunting down the droid, and retrieving the lightsaber. Forget Finn, who is useless anyway. The lightsaber is the important objective.

The perspective shifts again to the female scavenger, Rey. She eats alone, in a rough, makeshift dwelling in the belly of an old AT-AT walker. Living among the bones of the old Empire. She hears a commotion outside, and finds that a droid is in some trouble. She helps the droid, who turns out to be BB-8. After doing so, she decides to sell BB-8 at the nearest salvage station, along with the rest of her loot. After some haggling, she is not able to part with the droid. She decides to keep it.

Later on in the street, Rey is confronted by ruffians. Finn, emerging from his trek through the desert, enters the settlement. He quickly sees that Rey is in trouble. Being the compassionate type he intervenes to help her. She doesn’t need his help, of course, and doesn’t trust Finn’s intentions. She also doesn’t believe that he is a Resistance pilot. Rey and Finn make a run for it, with BB-8 in tow. They are pursued by ruffians again, who are perhaps fulfilling a bounty for the First Order. TIE fighters scream overhead, and begin firing laser blasts at them. They frantically look for a ship, and ultimately choose one that’s sitting there with its door open. It’s the Millennium Falcon.

Finn and Rey board the Falcon, and get it off the ground. Rey flies expertly, while Finn settles in at the guns. A few TIEs are in pursuit. Rey shouts at Finn to fire back at them! Rey flies the Falcon back towards the crashed Star Destroyer. In order to throw the TIEs off her back, she flies INTO the Destroyer from its rear rocket boosters. Into the belly of a beast. She and the TIEs slalom through the crashed Destroyer. But Rey knows these ruins, and she leaves the TIEs behind. The Millennium Falcon jets off into space, and loses its pursuers, probably by jumping to hyperspace.

We now cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room” aboard the Star Destroyer. He has received the news of the failed retrieval of the lightsaber. He speaks to himself. Rather, he speaks to the burned and twisted husk of a helmet. The helmet of Darth Vader.

We return to Rey and Finn on the Millennium Falcon. Either via tractor beam or their own choice, they are swallowed up by a Giant Freighter in space. Into the belly of another beast. The ship lands in a cavernous hangar bay. They open the door, and there at the bottom of the ramp is Han Solo and Chewbacca! Han orders the kids off his ship. They refuse. Han and Chewie enter the ship, and confront Finn and Rey. BB-8 hides in the back. Suddenly, an alert pops up in hologram form. Two competing gangs of ruffians approach the Falcon and they are temporarily united! Han asks the kids to hide in the storage bay. The gangs confront Han and Chewie, and they seem to be in trouble. Rey tries to help by releasing the ship’s cargo (which appears to be livestock, potentially giant space pigs). This provides a distraction. But a released creature grabs Finn and Rey is forced to chase it down and free Finn from the beast’s clutches. A fight ensues between the heroes and the gangs. Rey almost single-handedly takes on the gang using her skills with a staff. Han fires back, but Chewie is wounded in the fight. Finn helps Chewie, and wins some respect from Han Solo in the process. They rush back into the Falcon. Han gets behind the controls, with Rey in the copilot seat. When the Falcon won’t start, Rey manages to tinker with it and fix the ship, earning more respect from Captain Solo for the stowaways. As Chewie recovers in the back, they jet out of the Freighter, crashing into some of the livestock on the way out but still managing to escape. Finn attends to Chewie’s wounds. As he chats with the wookie, he finds the spherical remote Luke Skywalker trained with, fiddles with it, and disinterestedly puts it away.

Han asks Rey and Finn what the devil they are up to. BB-8 determines that the time is right, and reveals what he is carrying. A lightsaber. Han Solo recognizes it as belonging to Luke Skywalker! It’s the one Luke lost on Bespin, in his battle against his father. Han suggests they go to see “her.” “Who’s that?,” Maz Kanata. She’s a pirate. At a secret location on Yavin IV, a jungle planet that was once the home of the Rebel Alliance, and is now the main headquarters of the Resistance. She’ll know what to do. They fly there, and Rey is awed by the lush jungle, after so many years on a barren planet. They land. As Chewie and Finn power down the Falcon, Han has a private chat with Rey, and he bequeaths to her his trusty blaster, the DL-44, which she might need in this pirate’s nest. They arrive at Maz Kanata’s castle. It is a pirate hideout. A range of strange and unsavory characters, alien and human, lounge about inside. Han asks for Maz Kanata. While they wait, Rey gets into a barfight, Finn sticks up for her, and then Chewie takes care of the adversary. Finn, after a few drinks, thanks Finn for his bravery. An alien escorts them into a catacomb below the pirate castle. There they meet the diminutive and wise pirate alien, Maz Kanata, played as a mo-cap character by Lupita Nyong’o.

They show her the lightsaber, and Maz Kanata recognizes it immediately. She offers to show them a vision. Maz seemingly has force powers of some kind, and may have once been a Jedi (or a Jedi apprentice). They all hold hands, and a vision washes over them.

VISION: There is what looks to be a Jedi Academy, and the dead bodies of padawan are on the ground. Luke Skywalker shows up, too late. He sits by a funeral pyre with R2-D2. The droid is saddened by his master’s departure. Cut to the hand that takes the lightsaber at the start of the film. It is now revealed to be the hand of “Naka.” Naka accidentally starts a grass fire after igniting the saber. Cut to a local trader making a sale to a wealthy man. Cut to a fierce battle! The lightsaber is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN. The last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey. THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking an object. END OF VISION.

Then, Maz Kanata says something very heavy to Han, Rey and Finn. It is possible, though unconfirmed, that Rey may learn something of her heritage here that upsets her. Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber to them again. Rey is revolted by it, while Finn is attracted to it. He takes it in his hands. Maz Kanata knows why the saber came to her. Rey is deeply troubled, rejecting both the lightsaber and the information Maz has given them. She flees the pirate castle, and runs into the nearby jungle.

We then cut to what seems to be a spy in the pirate castle. This is an emissary, Kor Sella – played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers – that has been sent by General Leia Organa, the leader of the Resistance, to track down the lightsaber. The mission is secret, and she is in clandestine garb.

Cut to BB-8, who finds Rey in the jungle. But suddenly, First Order ships are overhead! They have been tracked.

The perspective shifts to the villain, Kylo Ren. But this time, he is in communication with a mysterious superior named “Supreme Leader Snoke” – played as a mo-cap character by Andy Serkis. The Supreme Leader orders that a superweapon, codenamed “The Catapult” be used against the castle. The Supreme Leader suggests to Kylo Ren that he “not get sentimental,” as Kylo hesitates to fire. This suggests that Kylo Ren may have some relationship with Han Solo, Rey, or both.

Kylo Ren orders the pirate castle destroyed, but the heroes, including Maz Kanata, get out in time. The pirate castle blows up, and Leia’s emissary Kor Sella is killed. Leia, Admiral Ackbar, and her staff fear the worst. This alerts the Resistance that something is wrong.

Enemy fighters are flying overhead and landing. Captain Phasma, on Kylo Ren’s orders, seizes Rey and takes her captive. BB-8 flees. Rey is escorted away from the planet on a First Order shuttle.

A Resistance fighter arrives, piloted by Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot from the start of the film that Finn escaped with. He is now flying either a black, commandeered Special Ops TIE, or a black X-wing. He “make all the difference” in driving the First Order villains away! A shuttle lands, and it is General Leia with C-3PO in tow. She meets with Han, and the meeting is awkward. It seems they haven’t seen each other in a long while.

Han, Chewie, Finn, Poe and BB-8 go with Leia to the Resistance Base, which seems to be on the other side of the jungle planet of Yavin IV. There in the Map Room, Leia plies Finn for information about the First Order – likely probing for weaknesses. She learns something very valuable from Finn, who discloses the location and weaknesses of the First Order base (named Starkiller Base) and superweapon, which seem to be strategically linked. This puts Resistance plans into motion to assault the Starkiller Base, and “The Catapult” superweapon they have housed there. Leia expresses pride in a new Resistance superweapon, codenamed “The Sledgehammer,” and decides to use it against the Starkiller Base. She seems to be quite militant. The Resistance begin preparing for the assault, including Poe and another squadron leader named Gorwyn. Leia also meets with Maz Kanata and receives Luke’s blue lightsaber. Maz suggests that for the time being, the lightsaber go to Finn, and Leia complies. Maz knows if it is in Finn’s hands, it will find its way back to Rey, when she is ready to accept her destiny. Han meets with Leia, and they seem to have an intimate scene. Before leaving, presumably to go after Rey, Han tells Leia that he will “hurry back.”

We cut to Rey, who is being interrogated by Kylo Ren in a First Order “Evil Castle” on their snowy, forested base planet, with a name still unknown. Kylo uses his force powers during the interrogation. Rey seems to reverse the probe, and learn something about Kylo and/or his plans. Rey informs Kylo he will never be as powerful as Darth Vader. This infuriates Kylo, and he leaves the chamber to report his findings. Was this a family duel? Cousins, siblings? But the interrogation was not fruitless for Kylo Ren. He learns that he no longer needs the lightsaber to fulfil his purpose. His purpose remains mysterious, but it may have something to do with finding Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren reports to the Supreme Leader with this new information. Rey then somehow uses her Force powers, likely mind tricks, to distract the snowtroopers guarding her cell. She escapes through a ventilation shaft, and emerges out in the open. It’s snowing.

Han, Chewie, and Finn, leave for the snowy, forested First Order planet on the Falcon, while Leia and Poe (with BB-8) prepare to assault the planet from space. Han crashes the Falcon on the planet by taking the ship into the atmosphere of the snow planet at very high speeds to jump past the First Order defenses. The crew of the Falcon comes out of hyperspace screaming as their ship cuts through trees before setting down. Han Solo hasn’t had a good day, and Finn learned about Kylo Ren’s past from Maz. Finn consoles Han Solo about the past. On their way to the First Order castle, Finn talks about his past to Han Solo and reveals a lot about himself from before he was a Stormtrooper, and why he became one. In the distance they spot a figure and it is Rey. Rey is moved. As an orphan, to have friends come back for her means a lot. This makes her reconsider her angry feelings at Maz Kanata’s castle.

During her interrogation, Rey may have retrieved vital information from Kylo Ren, which she may share with Han and the gang at this point. Armed with this information, the company then heads to the First Order Castle. Han has a plan! They will destroy “The Catapult” superweapon (or the shield that protects it), which is controlled from within the Castle.

We then cut to Kylo Ren, who walks into the cockpit of the crashed Falcon. He sits in the pilot’s seat, and has a moment. Is this his father’s ship? Does he remember it? Are those memories fond?
We then cut to the beginning of a great, climatic space battle above the snowy, forested First Order planet. The Resistance is throwing everything it has at the home base of the enemy. X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. General Leia Organa uses the Resistance superweapon, “the Sledgehammer,” to crush through Star Destroyers as if they were tinker toys. She wields an awesome power against the First Order! Down on the planet, General Hux of the First Order orders the firing of “The Array,” a defensive superweapon that will take out all fighters in space around the planet. General Hux’s subordinates refuse to carry out his order, because the weapon would also destroy their own fleet. And so, General Hux fires the superweapon himself. In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. Every single one. General Hux is practical and coldhearted. He obliterates his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships, and secure the safety of their Catapult superweapon.

Leia’s own superweapon, the Sledgehammer, is destroyed. It falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart. At this moment, Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of Resistance forces. Han Solo and the others are presumed dead. Meanwhile on the ground, Han Solo and his crew witness the Sledgehammer’s destruction and know they have to take matters into their own hands.
Thankfully Poe Dameron, BB-8 and his X-Wing squadron survive the attack from the defensive Array weapon because they were low enough in the planet’s atmosphere to evade it. Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo and the gang on the planet’s surface. They’re alive!

Han, Finn, Rey and Chewie enter the First Order Castle. The security codes have changed. Finn feels defeated. Han Solo encourages Finn to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the Catapult superweapon. Finn runs off to do so. He also dispatches some stormtroopers with the lightsaber. Han and the gang place charges around the Castle.
Kylo Ren arrives. The gang is on the ramparts of the Castle, and they are cornered. There’s no way out. Han Solo decides to personally confront Kylo Ren, as a means of protecting the others.
Finn, Rey and Chewbacca stop in their tracks. They watch as Han Solo speaks to Kylo Ren, who is most likely his son. Han may try to reason with him. Talk him off the ledge. Suddenly, Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. He murders Han, his likely father, in cold blood. Leia senses his death through the force. Chewbacca lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts. At that point, things start to collapse and explode around them, presumably as the charges set earlier do their job. There is an explosion, and the rest of the gang is forced to flee, leaving Han’s body behind as it is immolated in the blasts.

It seems that the explosions take out whatever shield may have been protecting the Catapult superweapon. This allows Poe Dameron, BB-8 and their X-Wing squadron to swoop in and destroy the superweapon. General Hux watches in horror as it all collapses. He checks in one last time with the Supreme Leader, to tell him the mission has failed and all is lost.

Kylo Ren flees into the forest. It is night-time, and snowing. Finn and Rey follow him, while Chewbacca runs back to the Falcon. Finn confronts Kylo Ren and holds his own in a lightsaber fight. However, over time he is bested by Kylo’s experience with a lightsaber. Finn is on the ground, and preparing to die. Rey arrives, and Finn tosses her the Skywalker lightsaber, which she has been reluctant to accept up until this point. To save her friend and avenge Han Solo’s death, she takes the weapon and attacks Kylo. But on a cliff edge, the ground falls away behind Rey and Finn, as all the charges they set on the Castle have made the area unstable. The heroes find themselves hanging from a precipice. Kylo Ren exits the scene. Just as their doom seems imminent, Chewbacca arrives on a repaired Millennium Falcon! He collects Rey and Finn, and jets off into space.

The First Order has been defeated, but Kylo Ren and The Supreme Leader Snoke retreat to lick their wounds, and plot their next move.

Finn, Rey, Chewie, Poe and BB-8 all return to the Resistance base on Yavin IV as heroes. The tragic loss of Han Solo makes the celebration bittersweet. Leia tells Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived the assault. We follow Rey, as she says goodbye to the important players. Rey makes a special stop to say goodbye to Finn in the medical bay. Meanwhile BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO decode a puzzle of some kind, seemingly revealing Luke Skywalker’s location – a watery planet of rocky islands. Leia is elated that her long-lost brother is found, and suggests that Rey be the first to meet him. Leia and Rey have a special goodbye in which she bids Rey “a fond farewell.” Rey, Chewbacca, and BB-8 get into the Falcon and take off. Chewbacca playfully messes up Rey’s hair in an endearing gesture.

They fly away to find Luke.

The Falcon lands on a rocky island in the middle of the sea. Rey walks up a set of old stone steps carved into the mountain. She comes up to a hooded figure in a stone hut, and puts the lightsaber in his hand.

It’s Luke Skywalker.

Space: Opening Crawl

• Unknown. Likely something about 30 years having passed since the battle of Endor. There is also official confirmation that a major battle between the Rebel Alliance and the Empire occurred a year after Endor, over the desert planet Jakku, and this leads to a desert planet littered with destroyed ships, etc, and full of scavengers. Not clear this will be in the crawl.

Desert Planet Jakku: Opening Sequence

• Exterior Night-Space/Savannah - A lightsaber tumbles through space, crashes towards the ground.
• Exterior Day-Savannah - Lightsaber lands – dawn into day – a strange hand appears (seemingly picking up the lightsaber).
• Exterior Night- Outskirts of Village – A droid, BB-8, is troubled by something coming and hurries off.

Desert Planet Jakku: Rey meets Finn

• Rey eats dinner alone in her home (a converted wrecked AT-AT).
• BB-8 needs rescuing and Rey answers his call for help.
• Rey and BB-8 head for Salvage Station.

• EXT DAY SALVAGE STATION - Rey arrives at the Salvage Station. Unloads her heavy stuff.

• She tries to sell BB-8 to a trader, but when the deal falls through after some haggling she reluctantly decides to keep him.
• Finn staggers into a cantina, it seems, gets a drink, and sees Rey and BB-8 dealing with bullies. It seems (speculation) that Finn may try to help her (Speculation: The trader/ bullies may alert Stormtroopers to wanted droid).
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Rey thinks Finn is not to be trusted.
• EXT DAY Clearing Area: Finn is trying to win her over (that seems to be his skill), and then Stormtroopers begin firing on them.
• When the Stormtroopers attack, Rey and Finn are thrown together to survive the ordeal.

Desert Planet Jakku/Land and Space: Escaping with the Millennium Falcon

• Finn and Rey steal the Millennium Falcon from a spaceport/ salvage station. The bullies and the trader try to stop them from getting away.
• TIEs are in hot pursuit of the Falcon as it rockets away.
• The Falcon is chased by TIE Fighters and we apparently move by some familiar landmarks (from THIS film, not previous ones)
• Rey and BB-8 pilot the ship. Finn gets on the Falcon’s turret.
• There’s a lot of banter between the two and to an extent they don’t seem to really know what they’re doing.
• As TIEs shoot at the Falcon, Rey has to ask Finn if he plans on “answering back.”
• EXT DAY CRASHED STAR DESTROYER – DUNES (IMAX) Aerial plates - Millennium Falcon banks hard, upside down and swoops.

• To save their skins, Rey pilots them into the insides of the giant crashed Star Destroyer she was scavenging from during her introduction sequence.

• The Falcon and the TIEs “slalom” around debris and the insides of the downed ship, eventually losing their pursuers.

• Finn gets those guns working and fires on the TIE Fighters in pursuit.
• Cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room,” talking to himself (or a burned Darth Vader helmet) on a Star Destroyer.

• Kylo Ren may talk about the saber and/or his true plans at this point (speculation)
• Cut back to Rey and Finn
• Finn compliments Rey (probably on her fast flying) and Rey figures out that Finn is lying about what he appears to be
• Falcon rockets into space

Giant Freighter/ Space: Kids Meet Han and Chewie

• Falcon ends up being swallowed by a huge freighter in space
• Han is there to meet the kids with Chewbacca.

• Han, at some point here, says “Chewie, we’re home

• Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them.
• He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn convinces Han to let them stay.
• Something happens with the chessboard and they hear a noise
• Han checks the video screen.
• A gang is there!
• Han explains the cargo on the freighter (creature(s) without description), and they presumably load the Falcon with the cargo.
• Han hides the kids in the cargo storage on the Falcon.

• The gang are divided into two groups codenamed “Mods” and “Rockers” on set.
• The mods and rockers enter the ship.
• The kids pull the fuse in the Falcon.
• It’s a good distraction.
• The cargo is released.
• Fin is dragged away by cargo and saved by Rey.
• Hell breaks loose.
• Chewbacca is wounded in the fight
• Finn aids a wounded Chewbacca, which helps earn Han’s (and perhaps Rey’s) trust in him
• Rey fights off the gang by herself.
• Falcon has issues.
• Rey fixes Falcon impressing Han.
• Some of the cargo splatters on the Falcon windshield as they race out.
• Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds.
• While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet. He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope.
• As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Maz Kanata's Castle: Visions of the Past

• After they leave the freighter in the Falcon, BB-8 shows the blue lightsaber (looks to be the lightsaber Luke lost in Bespin), and Han decides to fly to a jungle planet
• Finn asks who they are seeing and Han says “her,” which is “Maz Kanata.”
• INT DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Rey gets emotional at seeing so much green [Chewie is in back hurt]
• Once the Falcon touches down, Rey marvels at the vista near the landing site. Concept art depicts the Falcon setting down on a wooden dock on the water outside the stronghold. There are ships and freighters landed outside the castle, above the water in the concepts.
• While Chewie is still on the ship shutting her down with Finn, Han talks to Rey in private and he passes on one of, if not his most personal gun to her for protection in Maz’s stronghold. This is where Rey gets her DL-44, the gun Han Solo made famous.
• They go to “Maz Kanata’s pub,” which is full of all sorts of pirate scum.

• Rey gets into a bar fight.
• Finn is little help in dealing with the rapscallions. Finn does try and stick up for Rey though.
• However, Chewbacca helps sort out the problem, as it turns out a Wookiee at your side is a little better than an ex-Stormtrooper for bar-fights.
• A short time after this encounter, Rey enjoys a few drinks, and gets tipsy on the pirate ale. It sounds like a good time! While tipsy, Rey thanks Finn for sticking up for her in the strife. Finn’s attempt at chivalry doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated by Rey.
• At some point, they are led to meet Maz Kanata. Maz Kanata is an alien who appears to be both a pirate leader, and someone with force powers of some kind. In particular, she seems capable of sharing visions of the past.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub – There is a secret underground chamber and Maz Kanata begins her tale to Han, Rey, and Finn. They hold hands.
• Flashback: Interior Night at Academy – Dead bodies are on the ground. Luke turns up.
• Flashback: Exterior Dusk at the Academy – It is noted it is peaceful now. Artoo-Detoo is saddened as his master departs.

• Flashback: Exterior Day at the Savannah – A hand that takes the sword at the start of the film is revealed to be Naka’s hand.
• Flashback: Exterior on the Savannah – A peasant’s hovel where the peasant drops the sword, starts a fire, panics and then returns.
• Flashback: Exterior Desert – Local trader is seen leaving (presumably then cuts to Finn and Rey’s faces as the story unfolds).
• Flashback: Exterior Day Desert – Local trader makes a sale to a wealthy man (may be the individual referred to as “Fat Cat” by the production).
• Flashback: Exterior Night Battlefield – Fierce battle! Sword is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN.
• Flashback: Exterior Night: the last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey!
• Flashback: THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking “the object.”
• Apparently what Maz Kanata says is pretty heavy to Han, Rey and Finn.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the underground chamber, Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber and Rey is revolted by it while Finn is attracted to it.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Maz Kanata now knows why the saber “came to her (Rey).” Rey doesn’t like this and flees the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Rey moves past aliens in an uproar as she leaves the establishment.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: Courtyard: Rey runs away from the castle.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: Rey runs into the woods.
• Leia appears to send an emissary to Maz Kanata’s planet (rumored to be named Kor Sella). She has 3-4 scenes at most.
• It appears the emissary is on a secret mission of her own.
• Exterior Day: Woods near Maz Kanata’s pub: BB-8 finds Rey but suddenly the villains are overhead.
• “Supreme Leader Snoke” is in communication with Kylo Ren and General Hux. The Supreme Leader orders “The Catapult” weapon to be used against Han Solo, Rose, and the rest of the heroes.
• The Supreme Leader tells Kylo “don’t get sentimental.” This is allegedly due to Kylo’s reluctance to fire the superweapon at the Castle and Pub.
• The weapon is fired, killing Kor Sella, taking out a “castle,” “the tunnel of love,” and the pub.
• Interior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: In the corridors underneath the pub they notice Rey and BB-8 are missing as massive shaking begins.
• EXTERIOR DAY Maz Kanata’s PUB Finn wants to go after Rey. Han upset. Maz Kanata explains why.
• Exterior Maz Kanata’s Pub Plate Shot: From Rey’s point of view we see the destruction of the Castle.
• Exterior Day Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s Point of view we see Maz Kanata’s pub is chaotic.
• Exterior Day Woods Near Maz Kanata’s Pub: From Rey’s perspective we see Maz Kanata’s Pub ruined.
• Rey is spotted by First Order forces very quickly. Kylo Ren and his troops (who are on their way to survey the damage from the weapon) pursue Rey and capture her.
• Finn witnesses the capture from afar but can’t save her.
• BB-8 hides and evades capture too and the heroes meet up with Leia, the droids, and head for the Resistance base without Rey.
• Leia’s emissary is at Maz Kanata’s Pub when the First Order’s new “Catapult” weapon levels the pub and the castle next to it.
• The emissary is killed by this.
• INTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE – MAP ROOM Leia and staff react to Tunnel of Love unhappy ending
• The Resistance witnesses Kor Sella’s death and springs into action. This is where we believe we will see Admiral Ackbar, very old, in a new, slightly green outfit. He is part of Leia’s “staff.”
• Kylo Ren arrives with Stormtroopers in tow.
• Note: This pertains to: “Interior Day: Maz Kanata’s Pub hallways beneath the pub, Maz Kanata “uses her special skills” to defeat Stormtroopers.
• A fight seems to break out between First Order and Resistance forces in the wooded area outside the Castle and Pub.

• A “black TIE” arrives and seems to “make all the difference” in driving away the First Order troops (this may or may not be flown by Poe Dameron, and may end up being a black X-wing).
• The death of Leia’s emissary’s compels Leia (with See-Threepio in tow) to arrive at Maz Kanata’s planet.
• Han Solo and Leia meet for the first time in the film. It is described as “awkward.”

The Green Planet (likely Yavin IV), Resistance Base: Preparing for Final Conflict

• Leia appears to be a prominent leader of the Resistance (described as “Queen” on the main cast list).
• Finn and Poe meet again
• In the Map Room, C-3PO and R2-D2 assist in a briefing on the attack on the First Order.
• Leia wants to know what Finn knows (presumably about the First Order’s secret weapon).
• Finn explains the First Order Fortress to the Resistance attackers so they can understand how to bring the evildoers down to their knees once and for all.
• Finn’s knowledge of The First Order runs deep and he also explains the “Catapult” to the Resistance which is The First Order’s ultimate weapon. It seems as if the First Order Fortress and the “Catapult” are connected strategically.
• CUT to a scene at the First Order fortress control room, “Looking down into the heart of the Catapult”
• CUT back to Resistance Base Map Room
• Finn’s intelligence is paramount to the Resistance being able to strike back against The First Order.
• This is what inspires Leia to hatch her plan.
• In the Map Room of the Resistance Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.

• Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
• Leia is proud of this weapon.
• Leia prepares for the Resistance attack on the First Order base (named “Starkiller Base”).
• A Resistance pilot, Gorwyn, is introduced during this sequence.
• Gliv, part of General Leia Organa’s entourage, is also present
• Maz Kanata hands the blue lightsaber (clearly the saber Luke lost in Bespin) to Leia

• Maz Kanata tells Leia she thinks the sword found inside BB-8 should be with Finn
• Leia and Han still argue.
• The last thing Han says to Leia before he leaves for the final mission is “I’ll hurry back.”
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) Leia gives Finn the lightsaber. Han promises to hurry back to Leia.
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) wide shot as Millennium Falcon takes off on the mission.

The Snow Planet (Land): Rey’s Imprisonment and Escape

• Rey is taken to the First Order Castle on the snow planet and imprisoned.
• Rey is escorted to her interrogation by Captain Phasma.

• We have reason to believe Kylo might not be in his armor for this sequence (For some scenes, Kylo doesn’t wear his armor but instead wears the same black uniform General Hux wears with his hair slicked back, a little long, just above the shoulders).
• Kylo uses his “powers” during his interrogation of Rey.
• Rey reverses this “probe” from Kylo as she’s mentally stronger than him or just more powerful in the Force.
• Rey tells Kylo: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.”
• Rey apparently has learned something about Kylo instead of Kylo learning something about her during this metaphysical connection they have formed. But it isn’t a total win for Rey as Kylo does figure out he doesn’t need the lightsaber to carry out his goals and there is another way.
• Kylo then leaves to report to the Supreme Leader about Rey and BB-8.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Kylo Ren Tries to learn all he can from Rey. She turns the tables.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – CORRIDOR #1 Kylo Ren pauses outside the dungeon, flustered.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Rey uses some “special skills” to convince Stormtroopers to leave their post.
• We then see Rey escape via the ventilation system of the First Order Castle.

The Snow Planet (Land): The Heroes Rescue Rey

• CG EXTERIOR NIGHT OUTSIDE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Millennium Falcon races fast towards its target.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE Plate shots/landscapes as required for Millennium Falcon departure.
• INTERIOR NIGHT MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) About to arrive, Han reveals his crazy plan to stop.
• Han, Chewie and Finn arrive at the Snow Planet
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY EVIL CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon’s emergency stop.

• The Falcon crashes onto the snow planet’s surface near Kylo's ship.

• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Standstill. Han shook up. Finn consoles him regarding Kylo Ren.
• It seems that Finn may pick up Rey at this point (who has escaped from the First Order castle), and flee on a speeder bike. They steal a speeder bike and zoom away. They are spotted by a snowtrooper. A chase ensues over the snowy terrain and the heroes, Han and Chewie, “take him out.”
• Rey is touched the crew came back for her.
• Kylo and his troops track down the ship and Stormtroopers board it, followed by Kylo. It is empty.
• Kylo walks into the cockpit of the Falcon and sits in the pilot’s seat and has a moment.

The Snow Planet (Space, Sky, Land): Resistance-First Order Battle

• X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the Snow Planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. There are lots of shots detailing X-wings in various positions in space and in the sky above the snow planet.
• General Leia uses the Resistance superweapon (the Sledgehammer) to crush through Star Destroyers
• General Hux orders the firing of “The Array” superweapon on the Resistance, as the First Order Catapult is not yet charged up.
• General Hux’s subordinates refuse because the weapon will also destroy their TIE fighters
• General Hux appears to fire the superweapon himself
• In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. General Hux is coldhearted. He destroys his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships.
• The action in space is put to a stop in one fell swoop. It is just silenced.
• General Leia’s super weapon fails. The Resistance’s “Sledge Hammer” falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart.
• At this moment, General Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of the Resistance forces.
• Thankfully Poe Dameron and his squadron survive the attack from the array because it seems they were low enough to evade it.
• Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo on the planet’s surface. Han was thought missing even though Leia knew the Falcon survived the crash it experienced.
• Stormtroopers of the First Order line up as an imposing figure (General Hux) accompanied by Captain Phasma) looks on (not clear this happens here).

The Snow Planet (Land): The Evil Castle Sequence

• Han and Chewie go their way
• Han, Chewie, Finn and Rey end up at the Evil Castle
• While the Resistance look like they’re in a bad situation, you should never fear. Han has a plan
• Han Solo encourages Finn (described as a pep talk) to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the First Order superweapon (the Catapult)
• Finn runs off to do so.
• Finn uses the lightsaber to cut through some things to dismantle the shield protecting the Starkiller Base.
• Finn dispatches some stormtroopers with his lightsaber.
• Han and the gang plant explosive charges around the Evil Castle.
• Han Solo is hiding.
• He decides to reveal himself to Kylo Ren.
• Finn, Rey, Chewbacca stop in their tracks.
• They watch as Han Solo confronts Kylo Ren.
• When Kylo and Han meet, it cuts to Leia who feels “a disturbance in the Force” so to speak.
• There is no indication Leia is a Jedi or started upon that path with her brother.

A Compiled Synopsis of Star Wars: The Force Awakens All rumors sourced from @MakingStarWars For the purposes of readability, the synopsis includes some of my own interpretations of scenes.

A lightsaber tumbles out of space. It enters the atmosphere of a desert planet, and plunges to the ground. This is the planet of Jakku. The lightsaber is retrieved by a mysterious hand. It finds its way to a village elder, codenamed the Vicar, played by Max Von Sydow. The Vicar contacts the Resistance – the good guys. An X-wing pilot, Poe Dameron – played by Oscar Isaac and presumably sent by General Leia Organa – arrives with his droid, BB-8, to collect the lightsaber from the Vicar. The exchange happens in his hut. Suddenly, the sound of ships are heard in the night. The First Order – the bad guys – are onto them! Poe Dameron places the lightsaber inside his droid, BB-8, and orders him to flee. Run BB-8! Run!

The perspective now shifts to a stormtrooper on a transport ship, headed for the planet Jakku at night. This stormtrooper is Finn, played by John Boyega. He is shorter than the others. They land, the hatch opens, and they immediately start taking fire from the villagers. The stormtroopers proceed to burn the village to the ground. They also torch Poe Dameron’s X-Wing. They are ordered to round up the remaining villagers, and massacre them. The short stormtrooper Finn lets some villagers go, out of compassion. Finn’s stormtrooper friend is killed in the assault, and he leaves a bloody handprint on Finn’s helmet.

A huge shuttle lands, and out of it emerges an evil dark lord in hooded robes and a helmet, wielding a red, cross-guarded lightsaber. This is Kylo Ren, played by Adam Driver. Kylo Ren proceeds to make mincemeat of some of the villagers who dare attack him. He confronts the Vicar about the lightsaber. Kylo essentially asks “WHAT have you DONE with that lightsaber?” Kylo Ren is unsatisfied with the conversation. He kills the Vicar in cold blood.

Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot who is now without an X-Wing, is captured by Kylo Ren’s Stormtroopers. He is taken aboard a transport, and flown back to a First Order Star Destroyer. Finn, the short stormtrooper, also flies back to the Star Destroyer. But he is disturbed by his experience on the ground. Upon arrival, he feels ill. He takes off his helmet, and vomits. A superior arrives and tells him that another superior wishes to see him. They are displeased with his conduct in the village. His sentimental weakness. This likely means death, or worse, for Finn.

The perspective now shifts to a young woman on the desert planet of Jakku. This is Rey, who may also be called Kira, played by Daisy Ridley. She flies her speeder across the desert, and approaches a great ruin in the desert. A crashed Star Destroyer from a titanic battle between the Empire and the Rebellion, thirty years earlier. Rey enters the Destroyer, and proceeds to explore it, expertly hopping over huge chasms – some of which house the remains of old TIE fighters. She is a scavenger, on a planet that was once uninhabited, but is now populated by opportunists scavenging the wreckage of war. She also seems to be something of a skilled gymnast, as she hops from precipice to precipice in the Star Destroyer’s great husk. She scavenges a bit, and then decides to return home. In a rather evocative shot, she flies her speeder into a ONE SUN sunset.

We now cut back to the First Order Star Destroyer, hovering above the planet. The villain Kylo Ren is torturing Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot. He is confident he will get the information he needs. He emerges from the interrogation knowing that the lightsaber is now carried by a droid, BB-8. Kylo Ren delivers this information to his superior, General Hux, who is played by Domhnall Gleeson.

The stormtrooper Finn, likely fearing death (or worse), decides to flee. But he can’t fly. He needs a pilot. He sees Poe Dameron being escorted to the brig, and decides to act. He breaks Poe free. They steal a TIE fighter from the hangar bay, and stormtroopers try to stop them. The TIE lifts away from its moorings, firing at troopers as it makes its way out and into space. TIE fighters follow, screaming behind them. After a short chase, Finn and Poe are shot down. Poe is unconscious at the controls. But before they crash, Finn manages to eject himself from craft. He wakes up in the sand, back on Jakku. He looks around in a panic, and sees the crashed TIE fighter not so far away. He tries to get into it, but can’t. Finn sheds his stormtrooper armor, and puts on a jacket, that seemingly belongs to Poe Dameron. It’s not clear what happened to Poe. Finn, now disguised as a Resistance pilot, heads away from the wreckage. A speeder zooms by him, blasting sand into his face. Finn follows it, in the hope that it will lead him to the nearest settlement on this barren planet.

Kylo Ren and General Hux watch Finn’s hologram aboard the Star Destroyer. General Hux suggests to a Chrome Stormtrooper named Captain Phasma, played by Gwendoline Christie, that she focus on hunting down the droid, and retrieving the lightsaber. Forget Finn, who is useless anyway. The lightsaber is the important objective.

The perspective shifts again to the female scavenger, Rey. She eats alone, in a rough, makeshift dwelling in the belly of an old AT-AT walker. Living among the bones of the old Empire. She hears a commotion outside, and finds that a droid is in some trouble. She helps the droid, who turns out to be BB-8. After doing so, she decides to sell BB-8 at the nearest salvage station, along with the rest of her loot. After some haggling, she is not able to part with the droid. She decides to keep it.

Later on in the street, Rey is confronted by ruffians. Finn, emerging from his trek through the desert, enters the settlement. He quickly sees that Rey is in trouble. Being the compassionate type he intervenes to help her. She doesn’t need his help, of course, and doesn’t trust Finn’s intentions. She also doesn’t believe that he is a Resistance pilot. Rey and Finn make a run for it, with BB-8 in tow. They are pursued by ruffians again, who are perhaps fulfilling a bounty for the First Order. TIE fighters scream overhead, and begin firing laser blasts at them. They frantically look for a ship, and ultimately choose one that’s sitting there with its door open. It’s the Millennium Falcon.

Finn and Rey board the Falcon, and get it off the ground. Rey flies expertly, while Finn settles in at the guns. A few TIEs are in pursuit. Rey shouts at Finn to fire back at them! Rey flies the Falcon back towards the crashed Star Destroyer. In order to throw the TIEs off her back, she flies INTO the Destroyer from its rear rocket boosters. Into the belly of a beast. She and the TIEs slalom through the crashed Destroyer. But Rey knows these ruins, and she leaves the TIEs behind. The Millennium Falcon jets off into space, and loses its pursuers, probably by jumping to hyperspace.

We now cut to Kylo Ren, alone in his “padded room” aboard the Star Destroyer. He has received the news of the failed retrieval of the lightsaber. He speaks to himself. Rather, he speaks to the burned and twisted husk of a helmet. The helmet of Darth Vader.

We return to Rey and Finn on the Millennium Falcon. Either via tractor beam or their own choice, they are swallowed up by a Giant Freighter in space. Into the belly of another beast. The ship lands in a cavernous hangar bay. They open the door, and there at the bottom of the ramp is Han Solo and Chewbacca! Han orders the kids off his ship. They refuse. Han and Chewie enter the ship, and confront Finn and Rey. BB-8 hides in the back. Suddenly, an alert pops up in hologram form. Two competing gangs of ruffians approach the Falcon and they are temporarily united! Han asks the kids to hide in the storage bay. The gangs confront Han and Chewie, and they seem to be in trouble. Rey tries to help by releasing the ship’s cargo (which appears to be livestock, potentially giant space pigs). This provides a distraction. But a released creature grabs Finn and Rey is forced to chase it down and free Finn from the beast’s clutches. A fight ensues between the heroes and the gangs. Rey almost single-handedly takes on the gang using her skills with a staff. Han fires back, but Chewie is wounded in the fight. Finn helps Chewie, and wins some respect from Han Solo in the process. They rush back into the Falcon. Han gets behind the controls, with Rey in the copilot seat. When the Falcon won’t start, Rey manages to tinker with it and fix the ship, earning more respect from Captain Solo for the stowaways. As Chewie recovers in the back, they jet out of the Freighter, crashing into some of the livestock on the way out but still managing to escape. Finn attends to Chewie’s wounds. As he chats with the wookie, he finds the spherical remote Luke Skywalker trained with, fiddles with it, and disinterestedly puts it away.

Han asks Rey and Finn what the devil they are up to. BB-8 determines that the time is right, and reveals what he is carrying. A lightsaber. Han Solo recognizes it as belonging to Luke Skywalker! It’s the one Luke lost on Bespin, in his battle against his father. Han suggests they go to see “her.” “Who’s that?,” Maz Kanata. She’s a pirate. At a secret location on Yavin IV, a jungle planet that was once the home of the Rebel Alliance, and is now the main headquarters of the Resistance. She’ll know what to do. They fly there, and Rey is awed by the lush jungle, after so many years on a barren planet. They land. As Chewie and Finn power down the Falcon, Han has a private chat with Rey, and he bequeaths to her his trusty blaster, the DL-44, which she might need in this pirate’s nest. They arrive at Maz Kanata’s castle. It is a pirate hideout. A range of strange and unsavory characters, alien and human, lounge about inside. Han asks for Maz Kanata. While they wait, Rey gets into a barfight, Finn sticks up for her, and then Chewie takes care of the adversary. Finn, after a few drinks, thanks Finn for his bravery. An alien escorts them into a catacomb below the pirate castle. There they meet the diminutive and wise pirate alien, Maz Kanata, played as a mo-cap character by Lupita Nyong’o.

They show her the lightsaber, and Maz Kanata recognizes it immediately. She offers to show them a vision. Maz seemingly has force powers of some kind, and may have once been a Jedi (or a Jedi apprentice). They all hold hands, and a vision washes over them.

VISION: There is what looks to be a Jedi Academy, and the dead bodies of padawan are on the ground. Luke Skywalker shows up, too late. He sits by a funeral pyre with R2-D2. The droid is saddened by his master’s departure. Cut to the hand that takes the lightsaber at the start of the film. It is now revealed to be the hand of “Naka.” Naka accidentally starts a grass fire after igniting the saber. Cut to a local trader making a sale to a wealthy man. Cut to a fierce battle! The lightsaber is being used by the CLAN against THE SEVEN. The last man is down and Kylo Ren approaches Rey. THE SEVEN are looting and we see Maz Kanata in the foreground taking an object. END OF VISION.

Then, Maz Kanata says something very heavy to Han, Rey and Finn. It is possible, though unconfirmed, that Rey may learn something of her heritage here that upsets her. Maz Kanata presents the blue lightsaber to them again. Rey is revolted by it, while Finn is attracted to it. He takes it in his hands. Maz Kanata knows why the saber came to her. Rey is deeply troubled, rejecting both the lightsaber and the information Maz has given them. She flees the pirate castle, and runs into the nearby jungle.

We then cut to what seems to be a spy in the pirate castle. This is an emissary, Kor Sella – played by Maisie Richardson-Sellers – that has been sent by General Leia Organa, the leader of the Resistance, to track down the lightsaber. The mission is secret, and she is in clandestine garb.

Cut to BB-8, who finds Rey in the jungle. But suddenly, First Order ships are overhead! They have been tracked.

The perspective shifts to the villain, Kylo Ren. But this time, he is in communication with a mysterious superior named “Supreme Leader Snoke” – played as a mo-cap character by Andy Serkis. The Supreme Leader orders that a superweapon, codenamed “The Catapult” be used against the castle. The Supreme Leader suggests to Kylo Ren that he “not get sentimental,” as Kylo hesitates to fire. This suggests that Kylo Ren may have some relationship with Han Solo, Rey, or both.

Kylo Ren orders the pirate castle destroyed, but the heroes, including Maz Kanata, get out in time. The pirate castle blows up, and Leia’s emissary Kor Sella is killed. Leia, Admiral Ackbar, and her staff fear the worst. This alerts the Resistance that something is wrong.

Enemy fighters are flying overhead and landing. Captain Phasma, on Kylo Ren’s orders, seizes Rey and takes her captive. BB-8 flees. Rey is escorted away from the planet on a First Order shuttle.

A Resistance fighter arrives, piloted by Poe Dameron, the X-Wing pilot from the start of the film that Finn escaped with. He is now flying either a black, commandeered Special Ops TIE, or a black X-wing. He “make all the difference” in driving the First Order villains away! A shuttle lands, and it is General Leia with C-3PO in tow. She meets with Han, and the meeting is awkward. It seems they haven’t seen each other in a long while.

Han, Chewie, Finn, Poe and BB-8 go with Leia to the Resistance Base, which seems to be on the other side of the jungle planet of Yavin IV. There in the Map Room, Leia plies Finn for information about the First Order – likely probing for weaknesses. She learns something very valuable from Finn, who discloses the location and weaknesses of the First Order base (named Starkiller Base) and superweapon, which seem to be strategically linked. This puts Resistance plans into motion to assault the Starkiller Base, and “The Catapult” superweapon they have housed there. Leia expresses pride in a new Resistance superweapon, codenamed “The Sledgehammer,” and decides to use it against the Starkiller Base. She seems to be quite militant. The Resistance begin preparing for the assault, including Poe and another squadron leader named Gorwyn. Leia also meets with Maz Kanata and receives Luke’s blue lightsaber. Maz suggests that for the time being, the lightsaber go to Finn, and Leia complies. Maz knows if it is in Finn’s hands, it will find its way back to Rey, when she is ready to accept her destiny. Han meets with Leia, and they seem to have an intimate scene. Before leaving, presumably to go after Rey, Han tells Leia that he will “hurry back.”

We cut to Rey, who is being interrogated by Kylo Ren in a First Order “Evil Castle” on their snowy, forested base planet, with a name still unknown. Kylo uses his force powers during the interrogation. Rey seems to reverse the probe, and learn something about Kylo and/or his plans. Rey informs Kylo he will never be as powerful as Darth Vader. This infuriates Kylo, and he leaves the chamber to report his findings. Was this a family duel? Cousins, siblings? But the interrogation was not fruitless for Kylo Ren. He learns that he no longer needs the lightsaber to fulfil his purpose. His purpose remains mysterious, but it may have something to do with finding Luke Skywalker. Kylo Ren reports to the Supreme Leader with this new information. Rey then somehow uses her Force powers, likely mind tricks, to distract the snowtroopers guarding her cell. She escapes through a ventilation shaft, and emerges out in the open. It’s snowing.

Han, Chewie, and Finn, leave for the snowy, forested First Order planet on the Falcon, while Leia and Poe (with BB-8) prepare to assault the planet from space. Han crashes the Falcon on the planet by taking the ship into the atmosphere of the snow planet at very high speeds to jump past the First Order defenses. The crew of the Falcon comes out of hyperspace screaming as their ship cuts through trees before setting down. Han Solo hasn’t had a good day, and Finn learned about Kylo Ren’s past from Maz. Finn consoles Han Solo about the past. On their way to the First Order castle, Finn talks about his past to Han Solo and reveals a lot about himself from before he was a Stormtrooper, and why he became one. In the distance they spot a figure and it is Rey. Rey is moved. As an orphan, to have friends come back for her means a lot. This makes her reconsider her angry feelings at Maz Kanata’s castle.

During her interrogation, Rey may have retrieved vital information from Kylo Ren, which she may share with Han and the gang at this point. Armed with this information, the company then heads to the First Order Castle. Han has a plan! They will destroy “The Catapult” superweapon (or the shield that protects it), which is controlled from within the Castle.

We then cut to Kylo Ren, who walks into the cockpit of the crashed Falcon. He sits in the pilot’s seat, and has a moment. Is this his father’s ship? Does he remember it? Are those memories fond?
We then cut to the beginning of a great, climatic space battle above the snowy, forested First Order planet. The Resistance is throwing everything it has at the home base of the enemy. X-wings and TIE Fighters face off in space and in the atmosphere of the planet, where the First Order superweapon is located. General Leia Organa uses the Resistance superweapon, “the Sledgehammer,” to crush through Star Destroyers as if they were tinker toys. She wields an awesome power against the First Order! Down on the planet, General Hux of the First Order orders the firing of “The Array,” a defensive superweapon that will take out all fighters in space around the planet. General Hux’s subordinates refuse to carry out his order, because the weapon would also destroy their own fleet. And so, General Hux fires the superweapon himself. In that moment, projectiles are fired and all the ships in space are destroyed. Every single one. General Hux is practical and coldhearted. He obliterates his own men in their TIE Fighters to take out the Resistance ships, and secure the safety of their Catapult superweapon.

Leia’s own superweapon, the Sledgehammer, is destroyed. It falls into the atmosphere of the planet and it breaks apart. At this moment, Leia feels all is lost and calls for a total retreat of Resistance forces. Han Solo and the others are presumed dead. Meanwhile on the ground, Han Solo and his crew witness the Sledgehammer’s destruction and know they have to take matters into their own hands.
Thankfully Poe Dameron, BB-8 and his X-Wing squadron survive the attack from the defensive Array weapon because they were low enough in the planet’s atmosphere to evade it. Moments later, Poe from the sky discovers Han Solo and the gang on the planet’s surface. They’re alive!

Han, Finn, Rey and Chewie enter the First Order Castle. The security codes have changed. Finn feels defeated. Han Solo encourages Finn to take the lightsaber and use it to destroy a generator of some kind (likely a shield) for the Catapult superweapon. Finn runs off to do so. He also dispatches some stormtroopers with the lightsaber. Han and the gang place charges around the Castle.
Kylo Ren arrives. The gang is on the ramparts of the Castle, and they are cornered. There’s no way out. Han Solo decides to personally confront Kylo Ren, as a means of protecting the others.
Finn, Rey and Chewbacca stop in their tracks. They watch as Han Solo speaks to Kylo Ren, who is most likely his son. Han may try to reason with him. Talk him off the ledge. Suddenly, Kylo Ren silences the conversation with Han Solo forever. He murders Han, his likely father, in cold blood. Leia senses his death through the force. Chewbacca lets out a barrage of angry roars and laser blasts. At that point, things start to collapse and explode around them, presumably as the charges set earlier do their job. There is an explosion, and the rest of the gang is forced to flee, leaving Han’s body behind as it is immolated in the blasts.

It seems that the explosions take out whatever shield may have been protecting the Catapult superweapon. This allows Poe Dameron, BB-8 and their X-Wing squadron to swoop in and destroy the superweapon. General Hux watches in horror as it all collapses. He checks in one last time with the Supreme Leader, to tell him the mission has failed and all is lost.

Kylo Ren flees into the forest. It is night-time, and snowing. Finn and Rey follow him, while Chewbacca runs back to the Falcon. Finn confronts Kylo Ren and holds his own in a lightsaber fight. However, over time he is bested by Kylo’s experience with a lightsaber. Finn is on the ground, and preparing to die. Rey arrives, and Finn tosses her the Skywalker lightsaber, which she has been reluctant to accept up until this point. To save her friend and avenge Han Solo’s death, she takes the weapon and attacks Kylo. But on a cliff edge, the ground falls away behind Rey and Finn, as all the charges they set on the Castle have made the area unstable. The heroes find themselves hanging from a precipice. Kylo Ren exits the scene. Just as their doom seems imminent, Chewbacca arrives on a repaired Millennium Falcon! He collects Rey and Finn, and jets off into space.

The First Order has been defeated, but Kylo Ren and The Supreme Leader Snoke retreat to lick their wounds, and plot their next move.

Finn, Rey, Chewie, Poe and BB-8 all return to the Resistance base on Yavin IV as heroes. The tragic loss of Han Solo makes the celebration bittersweet. Leia tells Poe Dameron his squadron is all that survived the assault. We follow Rey, as she says goodbye to the important players. Rey makes a special stop to say goodbye to Finn in the medical bay. Meanwhile BB-8, R2-D2, and C-3PO decode a puzzle of some kind, seemingly revealing Luke Skywalker’s location – a watery planet of rocky islands. Leia is elated that her long-lost brother is found, and suggests that Rey be the first to meet him. Leia and Rey have a special goodbye in which she bids Rey “a fond farewell.” Rey, Chewbacca, and BB-8 get into the Falcon and take off. Chewbacca playfully messes up Rey’s hair in an endearing gesture.

They fly away to find Luke.

The Falcon lands on a rocky island in the middle of the sea. Rey walks up a set of old stone steps carved into the mountain. She comes up to a hooded figure in a stone hut, and puts the lightsaber in his hand.

It’s Luke Skywalker.

ACT I​

Attack on Jakku

• Exterior Night-Space/Savannah A lightsaber tumbles through space, crashes towards the ground. (Making Star Wars reports this as being completely CG.)
• Exterior Day-Savannah Lightsaber lands – dawn into day – a strange hand appears.
• Exterior Night- Outskirts of Village BB-8 is troubled by something coming and hurries off.
• Exterior Night – The Village BB-8 pushes towards the vicarage.
• Interior-Night – The Village Vicarage Vicar hands over the lightsaber. Poe is grateful, BB-8 rolls in.

Meet Rey and Two Great Escapes!

• We first meet Rey jumping around a crashed Star Destroyer, taking valuables from the wreck.

• 34 EXT DAY STAR DESTROYER - Rey races through the ship graveyard on her speeder. [editor’s note: This is not an actual tidbit from a MSW article. I’ve replaced all of the code names. This was compiled from info from Podcast 86 and the Comic Con reel.]

• 35 EXT DAY SALVAGE STATION Rey arrives at the Salvage Station. Unloads her heavy stuff.

• She unloads the valuables to a junk dealer for some credits.
• She watches a family depart the station, feeling very alone.
• Rey races home on her speeder against the setting sun of Jakku.
• She arrives at her AT-AT-turned-home. She’s lonely. She makes dinner.
• While eating she hears a noise. She climbs up a ridge and sees BB-8 being hassled by scavengers. Rey scares them off.
• BB-8 shuts down during the encounter with the hassler and Rey wakes him up.
• She tries to send BB-8 away but he is immediately attached to her like a little puppy.
• 42 Interior Night Star Destroyer – Frightening (Torture/Interrogation?) Room: Kylo Ren chats with Poe, confident he will get what he wants.
• 43 Interior Night Star Destroyer – Kylo Ren reveals to General Hux that he is looking for a specific droid.

• 51 Interior Night TIE Fighter Finn and Poe flying, they start up the guns!
• 52 Interior Night Star Destroyer – Hangar Bay Chaos in the hanger as the TIE Fighter lets rip!
• 53 Interior Night TIE Fighter Finn keeps firing as they exit the building!

• 54 Interior Night Star Destroyer – Balcony over Hangar Bay Windows blow out on the balcony!
• 55 CG Exterior Night Star Destroyer – In the darkness the TIE Fighter exits the Star Destroyer at great speed.
• 56 Interior Night Tie Fighter – They introduce themselves. Poe asks Finn if he wants to return to the village seen earlier in the movie. He refuses. Finn has a cunning idea.
• Finn decides to shoot under the Star Destroyer.
• They go away thinking the got the ship, but they crash because the TIE is hit by blasts from the Star Destroyer.
• Poe is unconscious at the controls.
• Finn has to get out.
• It appears he ejects.
• Finn observes the TIE disappear over the horizon of the Jakku’s dunes.
• After a brief moment we see an explosion.

• Finn passes out.
• 71 EXT DAY NEAR SALVAGE STATION – DESTROYED TIE FIGHTER Finn wakes, finds TIE Fighter. Tries to get in.

• Finn walks alone and puts on some Poe’s clothes.
• Kylo Ren, Captain Phasma, and General Hux report to Supreme Leader Snoke.
• General Hux and Captain Phasma look at a hologram at Finn.

• We cut to Rey and BB-8 entering the station.
• Rey is hassled by the junk dealer she sold stuff to earlier.

• The dealer wants BB-8 and she refuses, keeping BB-8 for herself.
• Finn staggers into the Jakku Station after his TIE crash. He sees Rey with BB-8, the droid he was looking for before he defected from the First Order.
• Rey doesn’t immediately trust Finn but somehow wins her over.
• Stormtroopers appear and the two run through tents, zigging and zagging along with BB-8, evading the Stormtroopers in pursuit.
• Finn admits he cannot fly a ship. Rey asks BB-8 if he can detect a ship for them and the pair follows the droid.
• They run out of a tent and a TIE fighter blasts the ground in front of them, knocking Finn down. Rey helps him up.

• They run to an area with some ships. They pass the Falcon for a more hospitable ship. The ship is terrible, they head back to the Falcon.
• They enter the Falcon. Finn asks if she’s ever flown this thing before. She starts the Falcon up.
• Finn gets into the gunner turret but is surprised when the turret moves on its own.
• Rey convinces herself she can do this, answering the question if she’s ever flown the ship before.
• The engines on the Falcon light up.
• Finn is still asking if she or the Falcon can fly!? Rey pulls back on the controls and the ship casts off!
• The junk dealer follows behind! He’s attacking the Falcon.
• Rey asks if he has a rebuttal to the attack. He’s trying but the gunner seat is jerking around and behaving erratically on its own!
• He tells Rey to keep low and she says she’s trying but it ain’t easy without a co-pilot!
• The Falcon reaches a good momentum but more TIE fighters appear.
• 95 EXT DAY CRASHED STAR DESTROYER – DUNES (IMAX) Aerial plates: Millennium Falcon banks hard, upside down and swoops.

• The First Order chases the Falcon into the Star Destroyer graveyard. Finn is still struggling with his seat.

• The gun gets lined up and he fires, taking out a TIE. Finn nervously congratulates himself on his minor victory.
• Meanwhile the ship is flying through all kinds of downed Star Destroyers from the Battle of Jakku. Alarms blare, and Finn’s seat is still acting up.
• We cut back to the TIE Finn shot down. Scavengers descend on the TIE and begin tearing pieces of the crashed fighter apart!
• Finn’s gun jams and he can’t help. Rey is thinking hard about what she can do. They head inside another Star Destroyer.

• She tells everyone to hold on. Rey is scaring herself. She does a loop inside the Star Destroyer, and most of the TIEs are destroyed trying to chase her through her crazy maneuver.
• Only one TIE remains and Finn, getting control of the malfunctioning gunner seat, finishes it off!

• We then see the junk dealer Rey dealt with earlier in the sequence making a call. He’s turning them in.
• We then cut to Kylo Ren with the Darth Vader helmet, alone in his “padded room,” talking to himself on a Star Destroyer. It is likely that the leaked line “I will finish what you started” is spoken here.

 

ACT 2​

Han Solo and the Gigantic Freighter

• The Falcon enters space, racing along at great speed.
• A gigantic freighter swallows it up. That call the junk dealer made had consequences. Moments later they are meeting Han Solo who wants to know where the Falcon has been and their troubles are only beginning.

• Han appears to take the kids onto the ship and talk to them. Clearly he’s not going to be pleased his ship was taken from Jakku by two strangers.
• At some point in this scene, Han Solo says “Chewie, we’re home.”

• He notices something he doesn’t like and orders them off his ship until Finn talks him down.
• There’s notes about the chessboard and then hearing a noise.
• Han apparently checks out a video screen and then hides the kids in the cargo storage because he sees some unwanted guests on the video screen. The gang members arrive!
• Because the gang members are there, Han hides the kids. The pirates appear not to be too happy with Han Solo and their dealings.
• The gang is separated into the code names “mods” and “rockers.” The mods are security guards from the freighter, and the rockers are members from the gang. They may be working together.
• Han tries to negotiate with them and fails.
• A fight still breaks out between the smugglers and gang members.

• Rey and Finn pull a fuse out of the Falcon that acts a distraction that helps the situation for the famous smugglers.
• The cargo on the freighter is released and pandemonium ensues!
• Chewbacca is wounded in the fight by the gang and Finn aids him making Han thankful.
• Rey ends up fighting the entire gang and winning singlehandedly and saving Finn as the cargo attempts to drag him away at one point.
• The Falcon has problems starting back up and Rey fixes it, impressing Han. As they escape, some of the blown up cargo (livestock) splatters on the Falcon windshield while they take off.
• As the Falcon frees itself from the freighter and escapes, Finn tends to Chewbacca’s wounds.
• While making small talk with the Wookiee, Finn finds a bag near his feet.
• He casually picks the bag up and opens it while chatting and fiddles with the remote Luke Skywalker trains with in A New Hope.
• As Finn finishes talking, he seems disinterested in the remote, puts it back in the bag and places it back where he found it.

Kanata’s Castle

• After they escape BB-8 reveals what he’s carrying and they go to meet Maz Kanata on Takodana, the green planet..

• As the Falcon slows up above Takodana, Rey gets emotional at seeing so much green around her.

• We then see Kanata’s castle. Finn asks Han who they are there to see and he replies “her.” The Falcon flies closer to the castle and we see a giant statue which may be Maz.
• The Falcon lands on the dock. Han, Rey, Finn, and BB-8 exit the ship. Chewbacca stays aboard the ship.
• Han gives Rey one of his blasters as it can be a dangerous place inside.
• As the heroes walk through the castle courtyard, Han tells Rey and Finn that Maz is a bit unusual. They enter the ground level of the castle. The place itself is a little unusual to the young heroes - filled with aliens and other patrons similar to the cantina scene from the original film.
• Han asks Maz for help. The history between Han Solo and Maz comes up (apparently they didn’t end on the best of terms).
• Rey and Finn have drinks while Han and Maz talk off to the side.
• Rey gets into some trouble with a patron. Finn tries to help her but Chewbacca shows up just in time to save the day and deal with the thug.
• Han Solo gives one more impassioned plea to Maz. She seems reluctant.
• We then cut to the First Order parade grounds on the snow planet where General Hux is giving a powerful speech to his Stormtroopers.
• Meanwhile in space near Takodana, emissary Korr Sella is aboard a Resistance ship which travels towards Maz’s castle in name of General Organa.
• On the snow planet, as General Hux finishes his speech, the Stormtroopers all turn around.

• We then see engineers pulling levers and pushing buttons as they ready their Starkiller weapon to fire.
• As it fires we see shots from above the ground as the weapon fires from beneath the surface, altering the terrain near the weapon in the process.

• The Stormtroopers at the rally all cheer in the fervor of the firing of their weapon’s might!
• Back at Maz’s place, Finn and Rey walk in the courtyard. They look up to see something terrible in the sky.
• On the ground level of the castle, Maz is telling Han she doesn’t know much about Leia (General Organa) these days.
• In space above Takodana, Korr Sella sees a flash of light. She knows it is over for her. Her ship meets its doom from the Starkiller’s blast.
• A Star Destroyer that came on the scene at about that moment comes into frame and we see the silhouette of the ship as the blast lights up the darkness of space.
• In space, Kylo Ren watches the blasts from his lander as he heads for Maz’s castle.
• INTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE – MAP ROOM Leia and staff react to Tunnel of Love (likely Kor Sella’s ship) unhappy ending.

Flashbacks and Destruction

• Han Solo and Maz hear the commotion and exit the castle to the courtyard and see the weapon firing as they look on in horror (note these reaction shots are likely to be intercut with one another if the delayed reaction seems confusing).
• Maz ushers the heroes inside the castle and down a staircase. On the staircase she tells them who Luke Skywalker was and why he is important.
• They enter an underground chamber. Maz has them all hold hands.
• A flashback begins:
• Bodies are on the ground.
• Luke turns up.
• Then we see Artoo-Detoo upset as his master leaves him.

• We then see a reprise of the hand taking the lightsaber and Nakka is revealed.
• We then see a peasant dropping the lightsaber and starting a fire. He panics and runs, but decides to go back for the lightsaber, saving it.
• We then see a local trader walking away with the weapon.
• The trader sells the sword to a prosperous man.
• Then there’s a battle raging and the sword is being used by the clan against the Seven.
• They are all dead and we see Kylo Ren approaching Rey.
• The Seven are looting and Maz takes an object from the battlefield.

• Maz then presents the lightsaber to heroes. Finn wants it and Rey does not. She’s repelled by it.
• The group doesn’t notice as Rey runs away, up the stairs, through the bar, and outside into the courtyard.

• Rey runs from the castle courtyard into the woods.
• Maz knows why the saber came to Rey. It was destined.
• BB-8 catches up with Rey in the woods. That’s when the First Order appears overheard.
• Kylo and General Hux are in contact with Supreme Leader Snoke. He orders them to fire the Starkiller weapon on the castle. Kylo is reluctant.
• Snoke tells Kylo to “not be sentimental.”
• In the underground chamber, Maz and the gang experience a great shaking and realize that Rey and BB-8 have left.
• From Rey’s point of view in the woods we see the castle totally destroyed by the blasts. Rey witnesses chaos as people flee the turmoil.

• Rey witnesses Kylo Ren’s ship landing. Suddenly there are Stormtroopers behind her.
• Kylo Ren assesses the situation and Stormtroopers inform him of where their targets (Finn, BB-8, Han and Rey) are.
• Maz and the gang try and take the stairs back up into the rubble but there’s chaos there and Stormtroopers working their way down into the underground chamber from within the rubble.
• Out in the woods, Kylo Ren is pursuing Rey with some Stormtroopers.
• She tells BB-8 to run and the little guy takes off in a different direction and then safely hides.
• Maz uses her “unusual” powers to take out the Stormtroopers.
• In the woods, Kylo catches Rey and wants information from her. Finn witnesses the capture from afar but can’t save her.
• The gang exits the rubble of the castle. Finn uses the lightsaber for the first time.
• Finn uses it well and impresses Maz.
• Out in the woods, Kylo Ren uses his special skills to extract information from Rey.
• Finn fights Stormtroopers with the lightsaber while Han and Chewie destroy Stormtroopers!
• Kylo Ren has a revelation pulled from Rey. He doesn’t need BB-8 at all. Rey finds herself under arrest.
• The Resistance shows up! The “Black TIE Fighter makes all the difference.” X-wing fighters turn up in support of the heroes, giving the First Order forces a run for their money.

• Kylo Ren orders a retreat. He knocks out Rey to subdue her.
• As the Stormtroopers retreat, Finn sees the troopers taking Rey away. He tries to catch up to her.
• From Kylo Ren’s point of view, we see an unconscious Rey placed aboard his ship.
• BB-8 sees the Stormtroopers retreating and he rolls back to the castle.
• EXTERIOR DAY MAZ’S PUB Finn wants to go after Rey. Han upset. Maz explains why.
• As this happens, Leia and See-Threepio show up. It is an awkward reunion.

The Resistance Base

• We cut to the Falcon flying with X-wings towards the bay where the Resistance is based! Maz is with them.
• At the Resistance base, Finn and Poe are reunited and Finn compliments Poe on his work back at the castle battle.
• Finn and Leia meet. She wants to know everything he knows about The First Order. We are then introduced to See-Threepio and Artoo-Detoo.

• Gorwyn is introduced.
• Finn explains the Starkiller to them. Finn’s intelligence is paramount to the Resistance being able to strike back against the First Order.
• While Finn is talking it cuts away. It basically shows the control room in Starkiller Base and how it functions.
• Chewbacca is in the medical bay being taken care for his wounds he’s suffered since the freighter sequences and the ensuing fights.
• The Resistance cannot decipher the puzzle to find Luke Skywalker, everyone overlooks the droids as potential puzzle solvers.
• In a passageway outside, Han and Leia argue and they cannot agree. They enter Leia’s private area and talk out their differences. The old spark is still there.

Rey’s Interrogation and the Plan Begins

• Back at the snow planet the parade ground is now quiet and empty save for patrols doing the rounds.
• Captain Phasma escorts Rey to her interrogation.

• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Kylo Ren tries to learn all he can from Rey. She turns the tables.
• Rey tells Kylo: “You’ll never be as powerful as Darth Vader.”
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – CORRIDOR #1 Kylo Ren pauses outside the dungeon, flustered.
• He realizes that he doesn’t need the lightsaber to achieve his goals and has figured out another way.
• In the Great Hall of the Starkiller base, General Hux and Kylo Ren report to Supreme Leader Snoke. Snoke demands action!
• At the Resistance war room, Finn briefs everyone on the situation with the Starkiller.
• We see how the Starkiller weapon fires.
• We see into the heart of the weapon and how the control room works to operate it.
• The group hatches a plan and Leia has a trick she is ready to pull during the attack.
• In the Map Room of the Resistance Base, Leia has a secret “up her sleeve,” involving her own weapon called “The Sledgehammer” by the production.
• Without storyboards, “The Sledgehammer” is difficult to understand but appears to be a kamikaze-like craft capable of taking down Star Destroyer sized spacecrafts.
• Leia is proud of this weapon.
• Leia prepares for the Resistance attack on the Starkiller base.
• Outside the Falcon everyone gets ready to go to the big fight.

• Maz tells Leia the saber should be with Finn. Maz gives the lightsaber to Leia.

• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) Leia gives Finn the lightsaber. Han promises to hurry back to Leia.
• EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE BAY (MILLENNIUM FALCON) wide shot as Millennium Falcon takes off on the mission.
• INTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE – DUNGEON Rey uses some “special skills” to convince Stormtroopers to leave their post.
• We then see Rey escape via the ventilation system of the First Order Castle.

 

ACT 3​

The Heroes Arrive

• CG EXTERIOR NIGHT OUTSIDE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Millennium Falcon races fast towards its target.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY RESISTANCE BASE Plate shots/landscapes as required for Millennium Falcon departure.
• INTERIOR NIGHT MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) About to arrive, Han reveals his plan to slam on the brakes and slip them right by the First Order defenses!
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY EVIL CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon’s emergency stop.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Han, Chewie, Finn screaming at sudden arrival.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon crashing through trees.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Han reacts to Millennium Falcon slamming through trees.
• The Falcon is going really fast, Han slams on the brakes and the Falcon slips by the Starkiller base’s defenses. The ship stops cutting through trees. They sigh in relief. They’re alive.
• PLATE EXTERIOR DAY FIRST ORDER CASTLE / MILLENNIUM FALCON Plates required for Millennium Falcon coming to a standstill.
• INTERIOR DAY MILLENNIUM FALCON – FALCON COCKPIT (GIMBAL) Standstill. Han shook up. Finn consoles him regarding Kylo Ren.

The Battle Begins

• We then cut back to the Resistance Base. A character called Brance reports to Leia that the Falcon made it. General Organa (Leia) gives the go-ahead for the attack to commence. We then see X-wings departing for their attack run. Poe tells BB-8 to stand by. We see the X-wings flying low and fast.

• Kylo Ren returns to the Starkiller base brig to find that Rey has slipped away and escaped from his custody. Kylo gets very annoyed and agitated.
• Han, Chewie, and Finn walk in the snow towards the Starkiller base. Finn opens up about his past to the two. They understand why Finn did what he did.
• They approach a giant tunnel or exhaust port for the Starkiller base (on the way there they fight some Stormtroopers here and there and Finn uses the lightsaber instead of a blaster). They find an elevator and get in.
• The Starkiller “superweapon” is then charged up 52% (The First Order recharges the weapon after using it on Korr Sella’s ship and Maz’s castle/pub earlier in the film).
• Rey is free from her captivity and enters the walls of the fortress. She uses the skills she’s acquired scavenging Star Destroyers on Jakku to jump around and avoid legions of First Order Stormtroopers. She’s totally comfortable doing this and it is an everyday thing for her.
• The elevator door opens and Han, Chewie, and Finn are looking at Stormtroopers. Their luck has run out.
• Han charges the Stormtroopers, defeating them. Finn helps by using the Skywalker lightsaber.
• The codes they hoped to use to shut down the shield defenses of the base have been changed. Han tells Finn he’s going to have to use his lightsaber. Finn doubts himself but Han believes in him and Finn uses the lightsaber and dismantles the shield’s power.
• Back at the Resistance Base a technician reports to General Organa that the shields are down, the attack can commence.
• We cut to Poe who orders his fighters to attack. Gorwyn copies Poe and Blue and Red Squadrons go in!
• TIE Fighters and Imperial transports land beside the Falcon wreckage. Stormtroopers investigate and give the all clear that she ship is empty to Kylo Ren.
• Kylo Ren enters the ship, walks into the cockpit, and sits down it in, remorseful. He is filled with despair.
• However, the moment is broken by Poe and his X-wings flying overhead towards the Starkiller weapon. Kylo gets up and runs to respond to the attack.
• General Hux sends TIE fighters to intercept the X-wings approaching the Starkiller weapon. Hux reports the weapon is charged to 71%.
• 282 INT EVE POE X-WING FIGHTER COCKPIT Poe calls in enemy gunfire locations.

• Nien Nunb calls in his targets.
• Some X-wings are destroyed by TIEs and others fly with determination towards the target. We see more TIE fighter pilots running for their ships.
• Meanwhile Gorwyn takes out some TIE fighters while Poe takes care of the guns on the ground.
• 284 PL EXT DAY EVIL CASTLE – SURROUNDINGS Plates required for X-Wings heading for the prize, some crash.

• Gliv reports to General Organa that the guns are down. Things are looking up for the Resistance.
• Above the Starkiller base, there is a quiet before the storm and all is still peaceful. Two Star Destroyers patrol the sky above it.
• General Hux reports that there’s been an incursion on one of his Star Destroyers.
• The First Order’s Captain Trilla reports in that all is fine.
• Then all is not fine. General Organa’s “Sledgehammer” steamrolls through the ship and everything goes sideways as the ship careens out of control.
• General Hux, down at the Starkiller control room, calls for the Array to be activated.
• Moments before the Array is fired, Poe is hit and his X-wing begins to go down while BB-8 works on stabilizing the ship. He sees the Array being initiated.
• The Array fires, taking out all First Order and Resistance ships in space. We see shots of TIE fighter pilots and X-wing pilots being killed and screaming in their cockpits as they’re hit and destroyed.
• Han, Chewie, and Finn make a plan to blow up the base without air support as things looks pretty bad up there.
• They spot Rey as she pops out of the side of a wall. Rey is touched the group returned for her. Their interaction embarasses Finn.
• They look up to the sky to see General Organa’s “Sledgehammer” coming apart as the array tears through everything.
• Gliv reports to Leia that the “Sledgehammer” is lost. Beaten, General Organa calls for the complete withdrawal of Resistance forces.
• Poe is screaming for his ships to clear out. We then see X-wing pilots saddened to hear they are being called off. Poe argues with General Organa that they can still complete the mission. General Organa breaks the news to Poe that his team is all that is left.
• Discouraged, Poe turns his ship around. Flying low, he looks down and sees Han and Chewie hustling towards a critical part of the base. Hope is still alive!
• Meanwhile Kylo Ren heads towards the ramparts of the Starkiller base.
• We cut back to Poe telling General Organa that Solo and his team are alive! General Organa is elated to hear the news!
• Han and Chewie head for the ramparts of the base!
• Rey and Finn jump on a speeder bike following Han and Chewie. They are chased by a Snowtrooper and they take him out.
• The Starkiller weapon is now charged up to 92%. The technician reports this to General Hux.
• Han Solo and Chewbacca fight Stormtroopers, defeating them all. Moments later Kylo finds the dead Stormtroopers. One that has not expired tells Kylo that Han Solo is here.
• Rey and Finn arrive at an entrance at a different part of the base, following Solo. They can’t get in but there’s a giant hatch, Rey uses her free climbing skills to hop up top and open the hatch.
• Meanwhile, Han and Chewie are dividing their explosives. They begin placing all the charges. They place all the charges and move down to the next level and they do this for some time.
• Kylo Ren meets up with his Stormtroopers. They open a giant door for him. He looks into an abyss.
• Kylo senses something is very off down there. Stormtroopers march away, and we see Chewie hiding, having just planted some more charges.
• As Rey and Finn approach the ramparts of the Starkiller base, the sun sets.
• General Hux reports that the weapon is now fully charged.
• General Organa’s war room is quiet. She stands proud, ready to die for what she believes in.

Death of a Great and Confrontation

• Kylo stalks the ramparts. Chewie is still hidden.
• Han Solo decides to reveal himself.
• Finn and Rey look down and see the encounter between Han and Kylo.
• Chewie climbs up and away from Kylo’s field of vision.
• Kylo Ren murders Han Solo in cold blood.
• Leia feels what happens and has the wind knocked out of her.
• Chewie roars and begins to fire his crossbow at Kylo. Stormtroopers spot Finn and Rey and they run but soon can’t run any further.
• Chewie heroically gets to the button and sets off the charges. Explosions cause havoc and Kylo Ren flees the location.
• Inside General Hux’s control room, there is pure panic. The system is offline.
• 337 EXT NIGHT EVIL CASTLE – COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE (SNOW) Kylo Ren moves purposefully towards the forest.

• Finn chases Kylo into the forest. Their red and blue laser swords clash. Finn holds his own against Kylo as he fights fiercely. However, Kylo disarms Finn, injuring him. Rey picks up the lightsaber and duels Kylo for some time.
• Back at the control room, young technicians refuse to follow General Hux’s orders.
• 340 EXT NIGHT EVIL CASTLE – PARADE GROUND (SNOW) General Hux watches in horror as the Parade Ground falls away.
• 341 INT DAY EVIL CASTLE – GREAT HALL General Hux has final check-in with his boss. He reports to Supreme Leader Snoke that all is lost and he has failed. The Starkiller base crumbles and implodes thanks to the charges Han Solo and Chewbacca set.
• 342 CLIFF EDGE: Finn & Rey’s duel with Kylo Ren ends. Ground falls away behind Rey. Rey and Finn hold on to the side of the precipice. Kylo Ren exits, and his fate is uncertain in the chaos. Chewbacca arrives.
• Chewbacca comes down the ramp of the Falcon, jumps out, and pulls up Rey and Finn with his Wookiee strength, saving the kids.
• The Falcon flies away as the Starkiller weapon shuts down for good.

A New Hope

• The Falcon returns to the Resistance Base to crowds cheering for them.
• C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8 take the lightsaber to the map room. There they use it to solve the puzzle.

• Rey goes to the medical ward and says goodbye to Finn. She has some business to take care of. General Organa and Rey have a fond farewell together.
• Chewie, Rey, and BB-8 get on the Falcon. To break the tension, Chewie musses Rey’s hair. She smiles.

• The Falcon takes off. Poe Dameron, General Organa, Finn, and Maz wave as the ship departs for its next adventure.
• The next we see the Falcon it is heading for the sea and comes to a giant mountain.
• The ship lands. Chewie and BB-8 stay on the ship.
• Rey departs down the Falcon’s ramp.
• Rey climbs up the stone steps.
• Rey finds a figure and puts the lightsaber in his hand.
• It’s Luke Skywalker.
• The End.
