Hi everyone—I hope no one minds if I just write to check in quickly on how things are going for those who have not yet contributed a story to this challenge.

Now, this is in no wise intended to rush anyone, and it's still the case that there is NO DEADLINE WHATSOEVER. But I do remember a few folks mentioning that they were stuck on coming up with stories based on the poems they received (I myself being one of them ). Thus I wondered if a little discussion and brainstorming might help—sometimes just talking things like this through with other writers can be enough to set the muse in motion. Do let me know.

(Mods, I hope this kind of thing is all right in a challenge thread of this kind. If it's not, I'll delete this post without argument.)

That's completely fine—there's no length limit either. I look forward to seeing what you have come up with for yours (you got a very famous one).

I have a few guesses about what that line might be; the poet you got is good with encapsulating big, cosmic themes in pithy, concise statements. And I'd be curious to hear if my guesses are correct—but only if you don't mind sharing (it can be by PM, too).

As for the characters representing the theme, it seems that could go a couple different ways: it could be (a) someone you believe is an example of that significant line, or (b) someone who believes in the sentiment expressed therein, or (c) both. (But this is assuming I'm thinking of the same line you are, and I might not be.)

Just by way of brainstorming, here are a couple of paths you might take for a less obvious interpretation of your poem:

(a) Your poem (also very famous!) makes the speaker's gender very clear, and ditto for the person being spoken about. One thing to do could be to reverse them. And, indeed, for some of the principal pairings in the SW universe, those sentiments would arguably be even more in character with the genders opposite.

(b) If you want to take a darker approach, the poem you got could be even interpreted as an instance of negging.

Hope this is helpful at least to start, and I'm glad to discuss any of this or any of the poems with anyone who likes.
